🌏 Our Primary School, opening in April 2025 in the remote Nepali Himalayas, seeks passionate educators and volunteers to help bring our vision to life. Our foundation is a Nepali non profit born as a children’s home with the ultimate goal of transforming into a green community, becoming the heart of development for its village, located in the Karnali region, the poorest in Nepal. Beyond serving as a home for children from impoverished, large families, or traumatic backgrounds, the foundation is already working in education, health and nutrition, women’s empowerment, organic farming, and sustainable practices.

Our aim is to address systemic underdevelopment at its roots, transforming the community through a completely free, holistic, student-centered, and experiential education that fosters curiosity, creativity, emotional intelligence, and sustainability. Our curriculum integrates games, nature, well-being practices, art, music, and technology to nurture empowered and compassionate individuals. Through this approach, children will understand that there are more opportunities available to them beyond either working in the fields or leaving for urban centers.

A core element of Foundation’s mission is to ensure sustainable development in the village. This includes attracting people and investments, creating jobs for the local population, and curbing the depopulation of the mountains. Recognizing that education is the cornerstone of development, the foundation is addressing the lack of quality education in the local public school by opening a new primary school staffed by qualified teachers providing free education to local children.

Our vision is to create a dynamic international school community where we provide employment for local teachers and welcome educators and specialists from around the world to share their knowledge and skills with the local staff. In particular, we aim to foster exchanges around non-traditional teaching methods. Knowledge transfer is pivotal for raising local teaching standards and disseminating best practices across the community.

We envision the school’s backbone as a steady flow of volunteers with diverse and complementary skills to enrich the educational experience. We welcome individuals specialized in psychological well-being and and holistic practices. We are also keen to involve artists and musicians who can inspire creativity and self-expression, alongside experts in environmental sustainability and educational technologies, who will help make the school a model of innovation and integrated development. In fact, we are eager to learn knowledge that can support the village in adopting more ecological agricultural and daily practices, as well as introducing innovative technological solutions to enhance the learning process.

By encouraging the exchange of ideas and knowledge—especially from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds—we envision an international community where education becomes the driving force for sustainable development. Our approach seeks to reverse urban migration, empower local individuals to determine their own futures, and contribute to the growth and resilience of their village.

At the foundation in the breathtaking Nepalese Himalayas, volunteers become part of a vibrant, transformative initiative that merges education, sustainability, and community development. Here, your time will be filled with opportunities to connect, learn, and contribute.

    Social Connection and Community Engagement
As a volunteer, you’ll live among local villagers and our team, fostering deep connections through shared meals, cultural celebrations, and collaborative projects. From participating in traditional Nepali festivals to engaging in daily village activities, you'll experience authentic Himalayan culture. Our communal environment encourages the exchange of ideas, stories, and knowledge among volunteers from diverse backgrounds and the local community.

During your stay, workawayers will have the chance to interact closely with the village community and our local staff. The founder of the foundation is a Nepali young man who grew up in an orphanage in India and has dedicated his life to creating opportunities for the community. The foundation provides employment to local people, contributing to the village’s sustainable development.

You’ll also meet the individuals who form the backbone of our place, including our local teacher, Kalpana; our current fieldwork supervisor, Bishan, who is also a Nepali teacher; our laborers’ supervisor, Asim; our cooks, Manraj and Jarma; our night guards, Nanda and Dal Bahadur; our cooks and gardeners, Sharda, Basana, Binda, and Ritu; our tailor, Parvati; our cattle herder, Vijay Kafle; our driver, Chandra; and our outdoor laborer, Naresh.

    Sharing Skills and Knowledge
The foundation is as much about learning as it is about teaching. You’ll contribute your expertise to develop a curriculum that includes art, music, sustainability practices, and innovative teaching methods, leaving a lasting impact on the children and community. In return, you’ll gain insights into the challenges and opportunities of life in a remote Himalayan village, local traditions, daily routines, and the resilience of a community striving for sustainable development.

The teaching experience is designed to be enriching and collaborative. International educators will engage in cross-cultural exchanges with Nepali educators, learning from their expertise while sharing your own knowledge and experience. Through collaborative teacher training, you’ll help enhance local teaching practices, and at the same time, gain valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of working in an international and interdisciplinary environment.

Volunteers will also be immersed in rural Nepali culture, learning about traditional practices and even picking up the Nepali language along the way.

At mealtimes, you'll enjoy authentic Nepali dishes prepared with fresh ingredients, offering a taste of the region’s flavors and traditions. You can assist local chefs, learning to cook Nepali recipes while sharing dishes from your own country to create a rich, multicultural culinary experience.

    What We Hope to Learn
By hosting volunteers, we aim to build a bridge between cultures, benefiting from your diverse perspectives and experiences to enhance our teaching methods, ecological practices, and community development projects. Your stories, skills, and knowledge will enrich our collective mission, and we hope to inspire you with the resilience, kindness, and creativity of the local people.

    A Unique Living Experience
You’ll stay in a scenic, remote village surrounded by majestic mountains and rivers, enjoying traditional Nepali meals and the chance to help and live in harmony with nature. The journey is as enriching as the destination, involving scenic travel and a brief trek that immerses you in the region’s beauty.

Living in a remote village, surrounded by breathtaking mountains and rivers, you will embrace a slower, more connected way of life. Beyond the classroom, the foundation also offers a lifestyle that emphasizes community, well-being, and immersion in the beauty of the Himalayan region. The sense of community at the foundation is a core part of the experience, as you work alongside fellow teachers and volunteers who share a commitment to the mission of empowering the local community through education.

The community will be truly international, creating an enhanced cultural exchange where diverse perspectives and experiences will flow and collaborate, further enriching the overall experience for everyone involved.

Join us to be part of a transformative journey that impacts lives, including your own, while creating a lasting legacy in one of Nepal’s most underdeveloped regions.

To make our school a reality, we seek teachers aligned with our mission—motivated and passionate individuals driven by pure intentions to make a positive impact. We particularly value teachers with expertise in non-traditional, progressive, student-centered, integrative teaching and study approaches. Our educational curriculum is planned to be experiential and holistic, shaped by the skills and contributions of our future educators.
Initially, the school will consist of six classes, from kindergarten to grade five. Each class will consist of around twenty students, meaning the school will begin providing primary education to approximately 120 local children.
The core subjects—Nepali, English, Maths, Science, Local Geography, and Health—will follow the Nepali public school curriculum. Except for the Nepali language class, all subjects will be taught in English. For this reason, a strong proficiency in the English language is a required skill to contribute effectively to our school. Proficiency in Nepali or Hindi, in addition to English, will be a plus.

We are actively seeking volunteer teachers who want to contribute to our school. The foundation is a new organization that is still developing its donor base, and we need as much help as possible from individuals who share our vision and are passionate about making it a reality. Volunteer teachers can join our school for three or more months.

Additionally, we warmly welcome volunteers from fields complementary to teaching. Each semester, we will host a new group of skilled individuals who bring diverse backgrounds, methods, and expertise to enrich and continuously refine our evolving school curriculum.
Indeed, we envision the school’s backbone as a steady flow of volunteers with diverse and complementary skills to enrich the educational experience. We welcome individuals specialized in psychological well-being, trauma healing, and holistic practices. We are also keen to involve artists and musicians who can inspire creativity and self-expression, alongside experts in environmental sustainability, organic farming and educational technologies, who will help make the school a model of innovation and integrated development. In fact, we are eager to learn knowledge that can support the village in adopting more ecological agricultural and daily practices, as well as introducing innovative technological solutions to enhance the learning process.

Without dedicated teachers and volunteers, our vision cannot take shape. Together, let’s create a transformative educational experience that empowers children, uplifts the community, and inspires a brighter future in the heart of the Himalayas.

    Acomodação

Workawayers will enjoy free accommodation and meals during their stay with us. There are no fees required for volunteers to offer their services. As the village is remote and lacks shops or commercial facilities, volunteers will not incur any expenses during their stay.

Guests will reside in our comfortable facilities surrounded by mountains and rivers. Our compound is equipped with running water, toilets, water filters, grid electricity, solar panels, batteries, and a generator for emergencies. The foundation is equipped with wifi connection, which volunteers and teachers can use for personal, work-related, or study-related purposes. In fact, salaried teachers and volunteers will have the opportunity to complement their commitment with parallel online activities, such as studying or remote work.

Volunteers will enjoy three complimentary meals a day, shared with the community. These meals feature traditional Nepali dishes prepared with fresh vegetables from our organic garden and milk from the buffaloes that live on the foundation’s grounds. The diet is predominantly vegetarian, but non-vegetarian volunteers can occasionally savor locally sourced meat and fish when available. Those interested can join local chefs in the kitchen, learning to cook authentic Nepali recipes while sharing dishes from their own country, fostering a rich, multicultural culinary exchange.

Furthermore, another foundation, located in the village, is a healthcare facility providing 24/7 clinical services.

The journey to the foundation includes a final 2-hour trek, preceded by a 8-hour jeep ride from Surkhet to Manma. The foundation covers the jeep ride cost. To reach Surkhet, one can either fly or take a bus from Kathmandu. Alternatively, it is possible to fly to New Delhi in India and then travel from Delhi to the Nepal border (Mahendranagar checkpoint). From there, one can reach Surkhet by bus.

Volunteers are warmly invited to support us for as long as they can, as their ongoing involvement is invaluable to our vision of exchange, sharing, learning, and continuous growth, which forms the strength of our school. In particular, we require a minimum 3-month commitment from volunteers due to the logistics of traveling with the foundation's jeep from Surkhet to a point near Manma, where volunteers will begin a two-hour hike with our staff to the village. Tourists and volunteers can stay in Nepal for up to five months (150 days) in a calendar year. However, international volunteers who arrive in August may work up to ten consecutive months, split across two calendar years (i.e., August to May).
