Hi,
My name is Steve,
We are working on an 16th century chateau/castle in the countryside of the Perigord Noir, part of the Dordogne region.
My background is actually rooted in the fine arts. My work eventually evolved to the preservation of period houses and other architecture. Among other things, I'm very interested in traditional building methods and skills of all kinds. Those are some of the areas of my passion and expertise.
We are having an intensely good time working our way through the challenges of this project. There are usually between three and eight of us outside of an occasional artisan. There seems to be a lot to learn, and learn from, even for the very experienced. That goes for me as well.
The work is interesting and varied. If you join us we suggest some work cloths and the ability to work independently. We are always ready to help, and pass along or teach skills.
Cooking is a shared effort. if someone decides to lead then we help. We will happily provide three hearty meals a day. Those with special needs diets must attend to that and we will be happy to help. At the foot of the hill below the Chateau sits a wonderful vegetable farm. We walk down and get vegetables as they are picked. In addition there are street markets in every nearby village once a week.
While you are here we would be happy to bring you to some of the incredible castles, rivers for kayaking, or whatever your interest during your off time. For instance - Castle Beynac - the strong-hold of Richard the lion-heart. This is the Perigord Noir where most of the important sites in South Western France are clustered. The chateau is 10 minutes from Les Ezyies, home of the new National Museum of Pre-History. The cave paintings of Lascaux, remains of the Cro Magnon Man and so many other remarkable things. Most significant sites are within 30 minutes.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

It is with great pleasure that we take workawayers from all over the world. It is our experience that after the successes, new skills, and other parts of the Chateau experience have transpired, it is the memory of bonding with new friends in such a diverse and disparate group that remains.

The current projects include: Social Media and Marketing, laying large limestone pavers, Landscaping, planting grass, cabinet work, furniture restoration, restoration of dry stone walls, masonry, and general assistance.
In addition there are always new things that come up and projects that turn out to be bigger than we thought. Teaching and learning skills is one of our priorities and most enjoyed parts of our experience. Curiosity and a desire to satisfy it is a great way to get the most out of your time here.
Critical to our experience and success is a good sense of humor! We are here to get stuff done, learn something, and have a good time! If you have music you like bring it! If you have an instrument to play bring it!
We prefer a minimum of a 2 week stay.Idiomas
