This was my very first Workaway experience, and it was amazing! Everything was absolutely wonderful! I arrived during Christmas, so most of the time, I was the only Workawayer. However, the work was not difficult—though it required some physical effort—but working in such a beautiful environment was truly a great experience.
I had never done
… read more outdoor work before, but Philippe and Jean patiently taught me everything I needed to know and were very understanding when I didn’t do things perfectly. They prepared many delicious French cuisine for me and even invited me to have dinner with their friends. They treated me like family, which was incredibly touching.
I absolutely loved this place—I loved my room, the food, the scenery, and all the animal friends; they were just so adorable. I really miss life here and hope to come back again. Merci beaucoup !

… read more during my stay there. I can say I learned a lot from him. Jean is an incredibly kind and patient person. He always explains the tasks so you understand well what you are doing and what the purpose of it is. Helping him gave me great joy. The task always vary but during my time I cut a lot of wood, which I really liked.
Both Jean and Philippe are very humorous people and I laughed a lot during my time there. They helped me a lot with my french and were very encouraging for me to practice. I leave with a new found passion to learn french and will get on to practice numbers in french (still have some work to do hahah). They were so kind to cook for me vegetarian and even introduced me to great recipes and vegetarian ham, I will now be travelling to Strasbourg for.

… read more sincere bonds based on trust and kindness. Their willingness to help is remarkable, not only for its generosity but also for its constancy. They are always ready to give their time and energy, their enthusiasm to learn, understand and help demonstrates an open-mindedness, an openness that pushes them to see the world with curiosity and without prejudice, ready to put themselves at the service of those who need it. In the garden, their involvement has been very great. No matter the weather conditions or the magnitude of the task to be accomplished, Ethan and Sarah roll up their sleeves without hesitation and tackle each thing with energy. Whether it's raining, cold or the task seems endless, he doesn't care much about the time they spend there. Ethan is a master of motorized gardening tools that he handles with ease, chainsaw, blower, brush cutter... They use them with great skill making the work easier but also more efficient. Sarah, for her part, doesn't just accompany Ethan, she has invested body and soul in the work of the garden, showing incredible physical investment and never shying away from getting her hands dirty to achieve her goal.
Together, they form a duo whose harmony in work is a model of efficiency.
Outside the garden, Ethan and Sarah are also outstanding cooks, Sarah always a perfectionist, does not hesitate to start over several times a dessert that she was not happy with, ensuring that every detail lives up to her expectations to offer a perfect dessert.
For those who would like to take them for a stay, it is clear that they will not regret it !

… read more insight into French culture, customs, and traditions. Every day, we shared meals, exchanged recipes, and engaged in lively conversations, often filled with laughter.
We explored much of the beautiful Normandy region with Philippe, visiting charming towns, historic beaches, and iconic landmarks like Mont Saint-Michel.
Day-to-day, I worked alongside Jean and the other Workawayers in the gardens. Our tasks included cutting and collecting firewood, pruning trees, gathering leaves, and moving horses. My French improved dramatically as I communicated and learned from Jean. His patience and calm demeanor were invaluable—whenever I made mistakes or didn’t fully understand something, he kindly explained and guided me until I got it right.
This Workaway experience was one of the best I’ve ever had, and I will always cherish my time with Philippe and Jean. I wouldn’t hesitate to return for another visit. It's been wonderful. Very charming hosts, you immediately feel comfortable. Respectfully but familiar. I liked the benevolent and warm mood. Don't fear being tired, they always say young people are always tired :)) so that means they are very active and this is a real joy. You'll never be bored and humor is always in the air. Philippe, he's everywhere without a break. Buying stuff, cooking, caring for the dogs, working in his office, bringing people somewhere and suddenly he appears helping the others outside.
It's really cool that you are so opened and taking so many different people under your roof and into your life. Thank you!

Certain tasks, such as the trimming of certain particularly long and high hedges, requiring endurance and physical strength were done with great dedication.
Even if Max would certainly have liked to spend more time taking care of and caring for the horses, whose love and passion for them is obvious, he very kindly agreed to take care of the gardens.
In addition to all his qualities, he is an outstanding chef, with exceptional talent, a true culinary artist!! He concocted many dishes for us including a Black Forest, absolutely divine, with a perfect balance between the sweetness of the chocolate, the lightness of the whipped cream and the acidity of the cherries.

… read more wonderful time. The work itself was enjoyable, and my favorite task was cleaning the moat. Most of the time, we worked together on a variety of projects, such as cutting wood, clearing leaves from the courtyard, trimming bushes, and much more. They always made sure the tasks suited our abilities.
We shared all our meals—breakfasts, lunches, and dinners—and I always looked forward to their delicious cooking. I’m vegetarian, and even though they aren’t, they made sure I had plenty of tasty and satisfying meals. Honestly, I think I’ll be dreaming about the cheese we had after dinner for years to come!
We also went on several trips together, and they were kind enough to offer to drive the other Workawayers and me to different places. This gave me the opportunity to explore Normandy and learn more about its culture.
Philippe and Jean also teached me so much about French culture, and I got to truly experience it firsthand. From enjoying cheese after every meal, to savoring wine, to learning about traditional French table manners, they made sure I immersed in the French way of life. It’s an experience that goes beyond just working and staying there.
Even now, weeks later, I find myself thinking about this experience every day. I deeply miss this wonderful place and, above all, the amazing people who made it so special.

Cuisine here was wonderful, Philippe and Jean have made lots of local French food for us. I enjoyed the dinner times that we shared everything on the table, foods and drinks, culture, arts and so on. Nous avons pu avoir un vrai échange culturel avec lui, il est très ouvert d’esprit et les relations ont été aussi excellentes avec les Workawayers qu’il a rencontré ici. Il parle bien le Français, nous a fait beaucoup de cuisine dont un ramen japonais délicieux, des pâtes à la Arley mémorables et des American cookies si bons qu’il était difficile d’arrêter d’en manger !

Each meal was a true experience... sometimes lavish, but always merited by the day's work!) What I really appreciated was how much attention Philippe and Jean put into making my stay an engaging and culturally enlightening exchange. The daily work outdoors was very diverse (sometimes tiring but never tedious), and our time otherwise was full of activities such as day trips around the region and cooking recipes from our homes. Also, I must add that the property and living quarters are absolutely beautiful -- they bring French country living to another level! I never thought I'd be cleaning moats in Normandy and having the best time while doing it. This is all to say, Philippe and Jean should be expecting me again soon!
