I had such a wonderful experience with Mar and Meritxell! I stayed for a little over a month and was able to really get to know the area and community. … read more always made me feel comfortable and at home. I felt inspired by her approach to parenting and her family’s healthy lifestyle. I learned about cooking, identifying wild vegetables, and making delicious kombucha. I miss them already and hope to be back to visit soon <3
I would help with Mar for a couple hours in the afternoons/evenings after school and had the rest of the day to explore the area. If you enjoy outdoor activities (running, biking, swimming, hiking), Vidreres is an ideal place to visit! There are incredible mountains, beaches, and trails accessible by walking and public transit. Meritxell lent me her mountain bike that I used to bike around the forest nearby, where you can see castles, poppy fields, and lakes. I also joined Meritxell's family and friends in running a couple races in the mountains and along the coast. Catalunya has some of the most beautiful nature I've ever seen. Avi was an absolute delight! She's cheerful, easy-going, sensitive, proactive and patient. She would come up with many creative activities to do with my girl: drawing, stitch bracelet-making, DIY crafts using leaves and flowers, and tons of reading! Wow - I don’t even have words for what a wonderful experience it was to spend a month with Mar & Merixtell.
Mar is a precocious, curious, sweet, loving 5 year old who loves to play. She enjoys meeting new people and was so easy to spend time with every day! She’s very creative, but also is independent. She likes painting, drawing, puzzles and

Merixtell is an incredible mom! Somehow she makes it look easy, even though I know it’s not. She also makes the most delicious food! It was a treat to eat with them!
She is also really clear about expectations and is very flexible/kind if things need to be adjusted for any reason. She’s speaks incredible English and is very easy to reach if any questions pop up while with Mar.
Overall, I honestly felt like I was getting the better deal :) I spent a few hours with Mar each day in the late afternoon after school pick up (which was so fun), and in exchange I got to have my whole day to workout, catch-up on life/trip planning and explore the cutest little town, as well as meet all of their family & friends for fun weekend adventures. And did I mention I loved Merixtell’s cooking?! Start to finish, my time here was wonderful. It never felt like a job, truly felt like I was just part of the family unit.

She is very hands-on and proactive, always thinking ahead and trying to be helpful and make things easier. She's very well organized and a great planner, very seponsible and has great communication skills, always making sure she understands what's expected of her

She is very energetic and creates fun games very quickly when required - when your kid is moody and tired after a full day, por example, which is very helpful! She was always willing to include my kid in her morning stretching routine while I got breakfast ready and - the best part- she shared with us her favourite dessert recipe , rice pudding, and we cooked it together!
She was always willing to spend time with us, coming along for family outtings, having meals with us while sharing about her culture and trips. She taught my girl a lot of English by playing games, getting English books from the library or by just having fun, singing and talking (she's a great storyteller!).
I couldn't recomment Margaret enough as a workawayer and, mostly, as an au pair. She's mature, responsible, energetic, caring and friendly, and will do a great job at taking care of your kids or helping you with whatever you need helo with :)

Lucy stayed with us for almost 3 weeks and we could not be any happier!!
She took care of my 5-yo girl while I was working and everything was beyond perfect (it was our first time hosting a workawayer). Lucy is very responsible, proactive, communicative, flexible, easy-going and resourceful. She was excellent with Mar: picked her up from Summer
… read more School, fed her a snack, played with her, took her to the park... even did some yoga with her! Mar felt comfortable right away and loved to be with her; they had a beautiful bond.
While at work, I was totally at ease knowing Lucy was with Mar. On top of that, Mar was able to improve her English skills!
Moreover, Lucy was really helpful around the house and would always anticipate what was needed.
If you have a chance, I absolutely recommend you host Lucy as a workawayer! Feel free to contact me if you need further references :)

I just finished my stay with Meritxell and Mar and could not wait to write this feedback or think everything can be expressed in words. Point is, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND staying with them however long you can! My stay was a little over two weeks and was able to explore nearby cities and small villages of Costa Brava all within 1 hour public transport
… read more or shorter if you are driving. Their family also lives very closely and are always willing to help - drop off/pick you up from a nearby train station and meals at their "farm house" was always a delight. During your stay here, you will not have shortage of in season vegetable/fruit, and Meritxell is an amazing cook, sharing delicious healthy meals!
The "work" was mainly taking care of Mar for around 5 hours after her school as Meritxell works. It was very organised where Meritxell created/shared a calendar for any updates so you know when help was needed. Mar is an extremely bright child, very good at understanding English with lot of energy. Anyone who has to take care of Mar is very lucky and you may end up actually learning from her with her "it's okay" attitude :)
