  Welcome, I am your host Said! We are a beach front community located on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua about 45 minutes from Leon. We are looking for passionate, hardworking volunteers to help us with our sea turtle sanctuary, content creation and property maintenance.
  
  This place has been operating for over 20 years but we are currently in the process of expanding our turtle conservation efforts. Every year, hundreds of sea turtles come ashore to nest on our beaches. Unfortunately, poaching, predators, erosion, and environmental challenges threaten many of these nests. Our goal is to give as many hatchlings as possible a chance to reach the ocean safely.
  Turtles do not follow a schedule. Some mornings or afternoons may require participation in hands-on activities like gardening, maintenance, or turtle conservation. During active nesting periods, some work takes place at night when turtles come ashore, and occasionally additional help is needed beyond the 5 hours a day, but you will always have 2 days off to explore.
  
  This project is ideal for people who:
  
  - Love nature and wildlife
  - Are comfortable working outdoors
  - Don't mind getting sandy, dirty, or occasionally wet
  - Can work independently and as part of a team
  - Are willing to adapt to changing schedules
  - Are excited to contribute to a meaningful conservation effort
  - Understands we are in a remote location away from a busy city
  - Are able to commit to at least 1 month of volunteering
  
  No previous turtle conservation experience is required. We will teach you everything you need to know.

  Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

  - Participate in surfing, yoga, kayaking, and hiking

  Accommodation
  Volunteers stay on-site and become part of our small community. You will be sleeping in our staff house, 40 steps away from the beach. Please note, we are not able to guarantee a private room or AC.
  
  
  FOOD: All 3 meals are included in the exchange for your time and work. We make trips to Leon for groceries at least once a week.
  
  
  Volunteers take turns cooking and sharing meals unless Said has planned a cookout-or something similar.
  
  
  
  
  What else ...
  Our volunteer program is new, although the place itself has been operating for many years. The location is remote, which means you’ll experience peace, quiet, and nature— but it also means there are limited shops, restaurants, and public transport nearby (the closest bus stop is 7km away). Volunteers should be prepared for a simple, self-sufficient lifestyle and bring any personal items they may need. We have occasional power outages as well so we recommend bringing a head lamp and power bank. Quiet hours are observed in the evenings to respect guests and wildlife.
  
  
  We also have 4 dogs and 2 cats on the property. They are not allowed inside the accommodation but they are happy to hang out with you in the rancho.
  
  Also please be aware most of our local staff only speak Spanish and are male(there are 3 women that work full time at the properties but during construction times we have more men on site).
  Your host speaks both English and Spanish. Most volunteers communicate with English but you’re able to practice or learn Spanish with the workers as well.
  
  Time off and local activities:
  - Relax on our black sand beaches or take a swim in the ocean.
  - Go surfing at nearby breaks (all skill levels welcome).
  - Play football, volleyball, badminton, spike ball or beach tennis
  - Explore the surrounding mangroves and river systems by kayak or on foot.
  - Take part in hiking adventures to explore local wildlife, rocky points, or tidal pools.
  
  
  If you’re interested in exploring Leon on your days off which is a 45 minute drive away, let Said know and he can help arrange transportation. Volunteers get discounts on things like volcano boarding and tours!
  
  Transportation considerations:
  - We make weekly trips into Leon for groceries, included in your volunteering.
  - Walking and biking are the best ways to explore the immediate area.
  - Volunteers who wish to explore beyond may bring their own transportation (bike or vehicle).
  - Local buses or taxis are available but infrequent due to our remote location.

  We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are proactive, adaptable, and passionate about nature to help with a variety of projects. Please note that we are off the beaten path, away from shops, nightlife, and other conveniences— this is for people who love nature, quiet, and adventure! We require a commitment of at least one month from our volunteers.
  
  Your help can include:
  
  
  Turtle Conservation: Supporting our sea turtle sanctuary, protecting nesting sites, and helping with hatchling release programs.
  
  
  Creative & Community Projects: Photography, social media, video editing, painting, or other initiatives that help share our mission.
  
  Surf & Yoga Support: Assisting with surf lessons, yoga sessions, or helping set up classes and equipment.
  
  Kayaking & Hiking: Guiding, maintaining, or assisting with tours and outdoor adventures along the mangroves, beach, and surrounding trails.
  
  Environmental & Gardening Work: Beach clean-ups, mangrove conservation, and caring for our herb, vegetable, and fruit gardens.
  
  Maintenance & Hospitality: Light repairs, cleaning, guest assistance, and helping with daily operations.
  
  
  Turtle conservation season (September onward):
  
  
  - Collecting and relocating eggs to protected hatchery areas
  - Night beach patrols to locate nesting turtles
  - Helping monitor nests and recording data
  - Educating visitors about turtle conservation
  - General sanctuary maintenance
  - Assisting with hatchling releases (October onward)

  We have a staff house. The house counts with 4 bedrooms 2 bedrooms are always in use because they are used by our construction team. (The construction team has been with us for over 9 years).

  Internet: Wi-Fi is available at the main clubhouse, but speeds can be slow or intermittent depending on weather and the number of users. We recommend being prepared for occasional downtime. Workspace: There is a common area at the clubhouse suitable for laptops, but there are no private offices. Bringing noise-canceling headphones and a power bank is helpful. Power & Outlets: Electricity is available, but as a small eco-community, occasional outages may occur. Charging stations are limited, so plan accordingly. Flexibility: Volunteers who need to work remotely should coordinate hours with project tasks. Some mornings or afternoons may require participation in hands-on activities like gardening, maintenance, or turtle conservation. Work can usually be scheduled around these responsibilities. Time for exploring: When not helping with community projects, there’s plenty of opportunity to surf, kayak, hike, or enjoy quiet time on the beach. Tip: Digital nomads who thrive here are those comfortable balancing work and outdoor eco-adventure, and who don’t mind occasional slow internet or unplugged time while contributing to meaningful projects.
