We had a wonderful time staying with Kaaren and truly appreciated her warm hospitality. Most of our work was in the garden—seeding, weeding, paving, pressure washing, and helping with other tasks. Kaaren has many interesting projects in mind, so it’s a good idea to ask her to prioritize tasks or clarify if needed—she really values proactive communication.
What stood out most during our stay was Kaaren’s incredible passion for cooking, especially desserts. Her pantry was a highlight, filled with delicious ingredients she generously shared. While we prepared our own breakfasts and lunches, she made tea most nights, and we all ate together. This also normally included an amazing desert.
The only downside to that much cooking and dirty dishes was the broken dishwasher.
Kaaren’s home is spacious and welcoming, with four rooms available for Workawayers. But during our stay, we were four at most (us being a couple).
Thank you, Kaaren, for a memorable experience! We’ll always remember your incredible cooking and the time we spent helping out in your beautiful garden.
Julia & Vincent
Julia and Vincent are both workaways that you never want to leave.

Vincent had many handyman skills and understood how to use power tools. He completed the paving around the pool and pathways, oiled the pool deck, high pressure washed the surrounds. Made garden beds and mulched and weeded. He was a solid and skilled worker.
I love sharing dinner with them and Vincent was a wonderful cook. They fitted in like house mates and were engaging, comfortable and warm. I missed them as soon as they left.
I would encourage any host to say yes please. You will not regret hosting Julia and Vincent.

Work outside in the garden was well balanced. All sorts of different jobs to be done maintaining her beautiful spread of plants. Some jobs might be more challenging, but always fair. Kaaren is also very open to having you work different jobs if you get tired or don't feel comfortable.
Kaaren is great to talk to, with a wealth of knowledge on local and provincial history. As well as having loads of general wisdom, she has a great sense of humor and loves to share her extensive experience with world travel.

If you prefer this kind of work you will certainly enjoy your stay here.
Many evenings were spent at the dinner table eating a meal prepared by Kaaren or another workawayer and were full of joyous and engaging conversation about our different cultures, experiences, thoughts, or anything, really! Kaaren in particular really values sharing in conversation even throughout the day, in-between chores, or during tea time. If you prefer to do your work and then keep to yourself in your room you may feel out of place here, as this truly is a household that sucks you in and makes you feel a member. If you do feel more on the introverted side, just make sure to be clear about what makes you feel comfortable; Kaaren is good at communicating her needs/expectations if you're willing to communicate as well! Even though I was there for only three weeks and was sometimes hampered by rain, Kaaren still took the time to drive me (or other workawayers) to nearby attractions or events. We went to the nearby state forest, spent a day at the beach, visited a plant nursery (I love plants), and of course had to visit a few kangaroo at a local park. The wonderful thing about Ruth is that she settles in and makes your home hers too. She shared her experiences and thoughts on life, her opinions, always the devils advocate and was up for a good natter, especially if you were interested in the cricket scores. She happily helped me preparing Christmas puddings and we spent an evening making sugar flowers for cake decorating, as we were both pastry chefs. She participated in the household and generously gave her time helping other worways in my home. She was also independent and make her way around the hills for walks.
