    Descrição

We are a large, active monastery dedicated to serving the public through culture, education, and community engagement. Daily life here follows a clear rhythm shaped by community practice and shared responsibility.

This is not a silent retreat center or a secluded jungle temple, but a dynamic, active monastery. This experience can be meaningful and reflective, but it is also practical, structured, and service-based. Volunteers learn mainly through daily duties, shared living, assigned tasks, and supporting the monastery community.

We welcome individuals aged 18–60 who sincerely wish to understand Buddhist community life from within. You don't need to be a Buddhist, but you must be open to cultural differences, willing to follow monastery etiquette, and ready to participate responsibly in a structured environment.

Through both service and daily cultivation, you will gain insight into how Humanistic Buddhism is practiced in contemporary society.

Mindfulness begins with reading. To ensure a harmonious and meaningful stay for both of us, please read the full profile carefully before applying.

    Immersion in "Living Buddhism"

    - Structured Daily Rhythm: Daily life follows a structured schedule with key activities—including volunteer duties, meetings, and cultivation practices—from early morning to late evening. This rhythm helps you regulate your body and mind.

    - Cultural Interaction & Language: You will have the opportunity to practice Mandarin and interact with monastics, local volunteers, and international participants. This interaction provides deep insight into modern monastery life.

    - Dharma Learning: Reading materials are available for those interested in Humanistic Buddhism. Study groups or a Buddha Museum tour may also be offered to provide a deeper understanding of basic Buddhist teachings.

    - Cultural activities or workshops such as Tai Chi and calligraphy may be arranged depending on the monastery schedule and availability.

    - Personal Growth: Volunteers leave with insights into mindfulness, community life, and how Humanistic Buddhism is practiced in daily life .

Note: this is not a formal Buddhist study course, meditation retreat, or personal healing stay. Dharma learning activities, study groups, tours, or cultural workshops may be offered depending on the monastery schedule and availability, but they are not guaranteed. The main learning experience comes through service, daily routine, shared living, and observing monastery life.

    "Service is Practice"
In our monastery, we view daily service as a form of active meditation.

    Community & Service Tasks:

You will work alongside monastics, students, and local volunteers to support daily operations.

    Tasks:

    - Volunteers mainly support dining hall operations through meal serving, dishwashing, and cleaning the dining hall or shared spaces.
    - Please note that dining hall support does not include cooking or food preparation. International volunteers are not assigned to cooking tasks.
    - Other tasks may include simple housekeeping, gardening or outdoor cleaning, supporting monastery departments, and helping with event preparation or clean-up when needed.
    - Tasks are assigned according to the needs of the monastery and may change from day to day. They are not arranged mainly according to personal preference, professional background, or preferred skills.
    - Volunteers should be open to simple, repetitive, and practical tasks, especially dining hall cleaning, dishwashing, and meal serving.

    Physical & Mental Stamina:

    - Daily life may involve frequent walking, stair climbing, standing for longer periods, dishwashing, cleaning, outdoor areas, warm weather, shared dormitory living, and simple bedding arrangements. Volunteers should carefully consider whether they are physically and emotionally prepared for this environment.
    - If regular volunteer duties are not suitable due to health conditions, we may not be able to provide special light-duty arrangements or guarantee alternative tasks.
    - If you have allergies, take regular medication, or have ongoing health considerations (including emotional or mental health), please check with us before applying so we can assess suitability.

    Communication & Culture:
    - We communicate mainly through WhatsApp and face-to-face, so please be ready for regular coordination.
    - Daily routines may differ from what you are used to, and cultural differences may feel challenging at times. Therefore, flexibility, openness, and adaptability are highly valued.

    Language:
Volunteers must be able to communicate in English.
Basic Mandarin is helpful but not required.

    Engagement:
    - This program is not suited for those seeking complete silence or a private retreat.
    - A variety of workshops and cultural activities are arranged to enrich the experience.
    - Full engagement allows you to settle more deeply into monastery life.

    External Commitments:
    - If you have work or study commitments, please discuss with us before applying. We need to ensure your schedule allows for the full immersion this program requires.

  • Acomodação

    Acomodação

    Living Quarters
    - Dormitory-style: Shared rooms (4–6 people) within the monastery grounds.
    - Gender Separation: Men and women live in separate areas.
    - Facilities: Simple, clean, and communal .
    - Diet: 3 vegetarian meals daily, following the monastery schedule.

    Length of Stay & Arrival
    - Stay Duration: 2 weeks only.
    - Arrival Requirement: You must arrive on the 1st or 3rd Monday of the month by 2:00 PM . A comprehensive orientation begins immediately in the afternoon to help you settle in. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated and may result in cancellation of the placement.

    - Daily Rhythm & Expectations
    - Volunteer duties generally do not exceed 5 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, the program is not designed around volunteer work alone.
    - Most days may also include orientation, meetings, group activities, monastery experiences, and community life. Volunteers should expect most days to be quite full.
    - For this reason, we generally look for volunteers who can adapt to a structured daily schedule from early morning to evening and are willing to settle down in the monastery setting.
    - If you wish to travel around Taiwan, we recommend arranging additional travel time before or after your volunteer period.

    Community Rules:
    - Dress Code: Modest attire is required at all times. Long pants and covered shoes. No tank tops, shorts, or revealing clothing.
    - Prohibitions: All intoxicants (alcohol, drugs, cigarettes) are strictly prohibited on monastery grounds .
    - Conduct: Volunteers are expected to maintain appropriate boundaries, mutual respect, and align with the values of the community .
