Hello everyone! My name is Lorenzo but to my friends I'm I-renzo: I am a traveler, worker, writer and now also a farmer. A few months ago I bought a sea-view farm in Tuscany, with over a hectare of olive trees. At the moment I am alone, so I would need some help to arrange the soil of the olive trees, do some gardening, prune the plants, rearrange the walls and paths of my estate. The house is very beautiful and has a large terrace overlooking the sea. It has two rooms and there is also an annex where the water also arrives. The place is really wonderful but I can't do everything on my own so I would need a little help. My farm is located near the Gulf of Follonica, 15 minutes from the most beautiful beaches in Tuscany (Cala Violina, Cala Martina, Punta Ala etc) and also near the famous Accesa Lake. I am a very calm host, I like to cook and the house is equipped with a large fireplace and also a wood-burning oven in the kitchen. No tiring help or special skills are required, simply good will, a spirit of collaboration, a desire to learn and tranquility. I'm waiting for you at my farm overlooking the sea!

The place is fantastic, the house is very welcoming, the farm is located in a splendid medieval village called Gavorrano. There is a bus stop and the train station not far away. From my farm it is possible to reach the town center on foot in a few minutes, where there is also a supermarket if necessary. The land is over one hectare, planted with olive trees (about 120 olive trees), and is located 15 minutes from the most beautiful beaches in Tuscany, furthermore there is also a splendid lake very close by, and there are also natural thermal pools and other splendid places of the surrounding area called Maremma Toscana. In exchange for help in gardening and tidying up the olive groves, I can obviously offer hospitality, food and cooking, and above all sympathy, company and experiences. I speak many languages, I work online for a tour operator based in Ethiopia, I have published twelve books so far (translated into several languages), I am a great traveler and I have had the privilege of traveling on all continents. I am an excellent cook and a tireless storyteller, and I love good company and serenity.

The help requested is very simple: keep the land surrounding the house in order, do a bit of gardening, remove bushes and keep the garden clean, rearrange the dry stone walls, clean the path, rearrange the fence of the land, prune the plants, arrange the land of the olive trees and depending on the season help in the olive harvest (October / November). The house has been abandoned for many years, and the land has also remained uncultivated and is now in a wild state. So not only do I have no animals or fruit plants, but I only have some olive trees (about 120 or so) that have not been pruned for years. In short, I am a private individual, and I have no business with my farm: the farm is my home, I just live there, maybe one day I will be able to harvest some olives, but for now there are weeds and bushes to remove, plants to prune, etc., and I can't do it all myself, so I need help. I don't have any products to sell, it's just a house with a big piece of land, and I am completely alone, so I could really use the help. So for now I don't produce or sell anything, and if I get help maybe in a few years I will only be able to produce something (oil, olives) for personal consumption / friends, certainly not for selling. I can therefore reassure you that my approach to my farm is absolutely non-professional and non-profit.

The help requested at the moment concerns the following tasks:

Sheets, pillowcases, blankets, pillows and all sleeping essentials will be provided.
It is not permitted to cook meat or fish or similar (animals, blood).
Cigarettes are not allowed in the house or in your room.
Pets are not allowed.

I worked for over ten years in Barcelona as a language teacher, so I would say that language exchange is my strong point. I also work as a translator and writer.
Acomodação
The house has two large bedrooms in Tuscan style, with terracotta floors and exposed wooden beams. Furthermore there is a large living room with a huge fireplace which is very useful in winter, then there is a bathroom with a small bathtub, a hallway and a lovely kitchen with a wood-burning oven. From all the windows of the whole house you can see the sea very well, with breathtaking sunsets. The person who comes to collaborate with my farm project by offering their help will obviously be able to have their own private room. The bathroom is shared with me, because there is only one bathroom at the moment, but in the future I would like to create a second bathroom, perhaps a dry one. In addition to the rooms in the house there is a huge terrace to see the sea, and also a small annex currently used as a laundry and craft room. I can offer food and I can also cook, maybe a little help in the kitchen is appreciated but it is not necessary. I am a vegetarian and I would not like meat or fish cooked in my home, I would like to underline this. I honestly eat eggs and dairy products, and I also cook excellent pizza. I don't require many hours of help a day, and you can adapt according to the needs of the things to do at the moment, without stress. Feeling good, cheerful and in company is very important, in addition to being industrious.

If you come by train to Gavorrano or Follonica, I can pick you up from the station and drive you back, the station is very close (10 min by car). Otherwise there is a public bus like a coach, but in my opinion the train is more comfortable. There is the train station of Gavorrano slightly closer to the farm, or there is the station of Follonica, which may be better connected, depending on where you come from.

I've also had a very nice camper for many years, so I really appreciate the caravan lifestyle. There are two places to park it if necessary: one at the entrance to the path I own, or near the house, or otherwise there is also a very large and convenient public covered car park a few minutes walk from my house.

This Workaway experience with Dana, which for me was the 18th workawayer in just a year, was truly exceptional, so I recommend this nice German girl, from Munich exactly, for anyone who is looking for a willing and also a great and tireless worker!
In addition, Dana is very nice: from the very first day we became friends, we enjoyed having dinner… read more together in front of a beautiful sunset, and then we drank some wine cheerfully. The next day Dana helped me a lot to clean up an area where I am going to put up a wooden shed for tools and to accommodate other workawayers.
Then from the third day onwards we started working at full speed, she was very good at cutting and rearranging the branches that had accumulated after I had been pruning the olive trees for the last few months, while I was painting the wooden shed before assembling it, with impregnating agent first and then also with bitumen liquid for the floor.
So we worked in perfect synchrony and harmony, but also in autonomy, and she was very good at rearranging all the branches and cutting them neatly so that I can reuse them not only to burn them in the fire, but also to make poles and fences out of them, which are always useful.
We had a lot of fun watching the sunset and we also took a few breaks from time to time while working of course, but the most beautiful moment was having breakfast together, and then dinner after contemplating the sunset.
Usually before dinner we also made a fire, so that in the evening the house was always warm and it was nice to have dinner in front of the fire listening to some music and drinking a glass of good white wine.
These days with Dana were really fun, exceptional days that combined gardening and pleasure in an exquisite way.
So, Dana wrote to me a few weeks before coming, and together we chose the best time. Then she came and adjusted to the dates that worked best for both of us. From the first day we started talking very pleasantly and became great friends, and then we immediately started working together in the garden, so that we could enjoy the sunny days even in the cool January weather.
We were very lucky because the weather was beautiful, even though it was late January. We concentrated on cleaning an area where I want to build a wooden house, so we carefully cleaned the concrete platform that will house the wooden house (which in turn will house future workawayers!) and then we pruned the trees around it, both olive and laurel trees.
Dana was really good and very clever and active in helping me, she immediately understood how to use the tools, she carefully cleaned the path, working very hard and always concentrating on the work, and then in the evening we had fun together talking and eating together, quietly. Really Dana was very good at cleaning up the branches, the leaves, and above all at removing the soil from the ground, so that I could assemble the little wooden house. Together we also rearranged the garden and in a few days the whole area took on a completely different look!
So my workaway experience with Dana was extremely positive, and I highly recommend this girl who was born in Munich, because in addition to being very good and willing, she is also very nice and it is pleasant to spend time in her company.
Dana is a dynamic and enterprising girl, and she wrote to me in a very nice way on workaway, from which I could immediately understand her positive energy!
Dana arrived here in Gavorrano quietly, and after a convivial first evening in which we dined together, the next morning we immediately set to work in the garden: she helped me a lot to sort out all the branches that are on the ground after the pruning of the olive trees over the last few months, so she was very good at collecting the branches, dividing them according to size, cutting them, and cleaning up leaves and twigs, collected in small groups.
We also had a lot of fun, and as she loves good food, it was very nice to cook different dishes for her every day, experimenting with new recipes for breakfast and dinner, which she certainly enjoyed :)
In fact, in addition to the passion for good food, with Dana we also shared the passion for good music!
Finally, I highly recommend this German girl, because in addition to being energetic and nice, she is also very strong and very good at working in the garden, and I really appreciated that from the first day she learned to work independently, setting the alarm clock early, to being able to work in the best hours of this cold winter.

This workaway experience with Justice went very well, so I highly recommend this girl from the USA for anyone looking for the help of a motivated and friendly person.
From the beginning everything went very well, we met in Florence because it was the first days of the new year and I was visiting my family who live in Florence, so I showed Justice… read more my parents' house and offered her some food and then we drove together to Gavorrano, where we arrived about two and a half hours later.
I really appreciated that Justice helped with the expenses of the journey from Florence to Gavorrano.
Then when we arrived we had dinner and a quiet talk in front of the fire. The next day we started work straight away, and it was wonderful to meet a beautiful fox in the garden in front of my house, which from the second day onwards came back to visit us every afternoon, like a pet!
She really is a beautiful fox, and I decided to name her Tiger Fox :)
At work, the good Justice has been very zealous in helping me create a new path and an area that I would like to make as a bonfire and create an outdoor relaxation area.
She worked with great energy and together we created a kind of terracing, as well as continued the creation of a path that I had already started with other workawayers.
Justice also helped me create simple barriers with branches, and helped me a lot with cutting branches, so I recommend young Justice to anyone looking for good help with gardening and helping out enthusiastically! The workaway experience with Justice was really good, so I highly recommend this girl from Seattle, because she is a very resourceful and determined girl, capable of getting busy and learning quickly. For what it's worth, I give a very positive opinion of Justice, because she helped me a lot to arrange the branches in the garden, after pruning, and also to keep the garden and the path clean, in short I highly recommend the good Justice for anyone who is looking for a workawayer able to help in outdoor tasks as well as at home, in a cheerful and spontaneous way. This workaway collaboration experience with Justice was simply perfect and amazing, because she really is an incredible and willing person.
Starting from the very beginning, she was punctual and respectful of the house from the very beginning, and above all we had a great dialogue from the very beginning, also with many passions in common including music, good food (especially my home made pasta!) and of course nature, which Justice enjoyed very much both in my plot and from my terrace, which filled me with joy.
But besides having a lot of fun together, we also worked quite hard, despite the weather, and Justice was very good, because even though she's a young girl she's really very determined and diligent in her work, and never complains. She helped me clear the path to the house, and she helped me gather wood for the winter, to make the fire, and she was really good and always worked really hard, and then she also quickly has removed all the weeds from the path. In addition to this, she helped me clear a large area of my land, where I would like to make a chill-out zone, and she also cut wood with shears so that I could use it to reinforce the fence on my land, in a totally eco-friendly way. Lastly, she was very supportive all the time.
In short, an irreplaceable help and a tireless companion throughout her stay! The highlight was being able to enjoy the sunset every day together, when around six o'clock we stopped working in the garden and could enjoy the colours of nature and the beautiful view of the sea from my terrace among the olive trees. She was also very good at washing the dishes, even though I never asked her to, and it was very nice to enjoy so many delicious dinners together, always listening to lots of music together!
We enjoyed making appetisers, and because we worked a lot, we always arrived hungry at dinner and could enjoy this exquisite time, eating typical Italian dinners, especially with very good pasta dishes and some white wine.
To sum up, it was an exclusively positive experience, both as a workawayer but also as a new friendship. In fact, we got on very well, which I was very pleased, so we also had the chance to enjoy our friendship and to explore together the beauty of this region and the city of Florence, my birthplace.
And last but not least, she kept me company and it was really wonderful to be able to share a day as friends and also a bit of a tourist in the town of Gavorrano with Justice, who is a pleasant person with whom I never tire of talking and with whom you can share many special experiences.
It's really a pleasure for me to be able to introduce this beautiful area to workawayers from various parts of the world, and with Justice in particular I was always really at ease, both as a workaway collaboration and as a sincere friendship! Above all expectations, truly a positive experience.
So I highly recommend Justice as a workawayer, to anyone who might be interested in her collaboration, because she really is a great girl and a tireless and sensitive worker, with an endless love for nature and animals. A great help to me, and a wonderful person, who loves nature with all her heart.

Receiving Enrico with his dog Libera (a.k.a. Lilli) in the days just before Christmas was the most beautiful gift I could find under my olive trees for Christmas! Better even than Santa Claus :)
Enrico and I first met a few years ago at a music festival, and finding each other here on workaway was almost magical, truly a sign of destiny!
Enrico… read more wrote to me calmly and then came to my house in his little camper van. He told me that he could sleep in the camper van with the dog, but I told him that it was fine with me if he slept inside my house, in his room, and so it was. From day one we immediately went on a tour of my land and he gave me a lot of advice, so I highly recommend this young guy from Romagna because he is an expert gardener, very good at pruning trees, good at all kinds of manual skills and especially in gardening, he is very experienced despite being quite young, and he can give a lot of great advice, so I highly recommend Enrico as a workawayer!
From the first day we set to work, we first dismantled an old hut for drying wood, which was partly made of plastic (so we removed the plastic), and also had a boarded up roof, which was collecting water. We left the wooden structure and so that corner of the garden has taken on a much better look, and in the future it can become a shed for other purposes, or even an outdoor shower area.
After helping me dismantle and rearrange this small shed, we started pruning some olive branches, because he is a professional gardener and in fact that is why I am so happy he came. So we pruned the olive trees together and then moved the branches. This way, the olive trees gradually acquire the most suitable shape for the olive harvest.
Then in the evening we went out to dinner with two of my friends, because there was a birthday party of my friends and we went to a pizzeria in Scarlino, not far from Gavorrano.
Then the next day we continued working, pruning the olive trees. Enrico got up early and started pruning immediately, early in the morning, and meanwhile I moved the branches that were falling. Then we continued pruning other trees, and what I appreciate most is that he not only brought his scissors and work clothes, but he is also very good and above all experienced, so he gave me a lot of useful advice for the future and I hope he will come back.
His dog Lilli hasn't bothered me at all, she's been inside the house very quiet (the dog is female), and then when she wants she goes out and she's a wonderful, well-behaved dog, as is his owner Enrico.
So I recommend Enrico for anyone looking for an experienced gardener and workawayer with years of experience in pruning, olive picking, gardening and even honey production.
Enrico is very good and I am glad he came to visit me to do workaway in Gavorrano!
The workaway experience with Enrico was simply perfect, which is why I highly recommend this Italian man if you are looking for a resourceful, smart and respectful person. Enrico wrote to me with sincerity that he was in a situation where he would gladly come and visit me and help me out for a few days, and that he would come by caravan, do a short experience and then come back at a later date. I really appreciated his sincerity and so we organised a last-minute workaway, and a few days later he came to my farm.
As already mentioned, the stay was short, less than a week (which is the minimum duration, usually), yet Enrico showed me great intelligence and resourcefulness. Above all, he helped me arrange the olive branches that are on the ground after pruning, and it is a very long job that he did with zeal and passion, together with me. Above all, I appreciated his maturity, because from day one he was able to work in the garden with a certain amount of autonomy, arranging the branches and cutting the big ones to make the ground around the house tidier.
Besides that, it was very pleasant to talk to Enrico, and we shared some very interesting moments of conversation, especially since we are similar, we are two people with a lot in common, although he is a bit younger, but he is very intelligent and experienced, and a great talker, like me, so it was a really nice meeting.
Finally, I highly recommend this italian man to anyone who is looking for an enterprising and willing workawayer who can learn fast, listen, and connect deeply with a farm that just needs a bit of work to become a true natural paradise!
Thank you again dear Enrico for all your work, I hope you will be able to come back and give me a hand here at the farm and thus be able to see the evolution of this little fairytale corner, and how this farm is growing also thanks to your help and the seeds that you have planted.
I recommend Enrico as a workawayer with a high rating, especially for his maturity in being able to tune in respectfully and also lovingly to this farm surrounded by nature and in front of the sea, and for being able to work with dedication for the growth of this happy place.

In addition to this we really enjoyed our time together, and they were very nice days, also because she came with me on some activities to discover Gavorrano and the mineral and stone mine that is in front of my farm, in short we shared some very dense days alternating work with fun and entertainment!
Above all, it was great to share the weekend discovering Gavorrano, and then we got on very well together, so I highly recommend this Austrian girl because she is very willing and helpful, above all she is good at gardening and is very polite and friendly!
This workaway experience with Maggy was simply perfect, which is why I highly recommend this Austrian girl if you are looking for a resourceful, smart and respectful person.

These days with Dora were really fun, exceptional days that combined gardening and pleasure in an exquisite way.
So, Dora wrote to me a few weeks before coming, and together we chose the best time. Then she came by car and adjusted to the dates that worked best for both of us. From the first day we started talking very pleasantly and became great… read more friends, and then we immediately started working together in the garden, so that we could enjoy the sunny days even in the cool December weather. We were very lucky because the weather was beautiful, even though it was late December. We concentrated on cleaning an area where I want to build a wooden house, so we carefully cleaned the concrete platform that will house the wooden house (which in turn will house future workawayers!) and then we pruned the trees around it, both olive and laurel trees.
Dora was really good and very clever and active in helping me, she immediately understood how to use the tools, she carefully cleaned the path, working very hard and always concentrating on the work, and then in the evening we had fun together talking and eating together, quietly. Really Dora was very good at cleaning up the branches, the leaves, and above all at removing the soil from the ground, so that I could assemble the little wooden house. Together we also rearranged the drywall and in a few days the whole area took on a completely different look!
So my workaway experience with Dora was extremely positive, and I highly recommend this girl who was born in Croatia, because in addition to being very good and willing, she is also very nice and it is pleasant to spend time in her company.
Dora is a dynamic and enterprising girl, and she wrote to me in a very nice way on workaway, from which I could immediately understand her positive energy!
Dora arrived here in Gavorrano by car, quietly, and after a convivial first evening in which we dined together, the next morning we immediately set to work in the garden: she helped me a lot to sort out all the branches that are on the ground after the pruning of the olive trees over the last few months, so she was very good at collecting the branches, dividing them according to size, cutting them, and cleaning up leaves and twigs, collected in small groups.
We also had a lot of fun, and as she loves good food, it was very nice to cook different dishes for her every day, experimenting with new recipes for breakfast and dinner, which she certainly enjoyed :)
In fact, in addition to the passion for good food, with Dora we also shared the passion for good music!
Finally, I highly recommend this Croatian girl, because in addition to being energetic and nice, she is also very strong and very good at working in the garden, and I really appreciated that from the first day she learned to work independently, setting the alarm clock early, to being able to work in the best hours of this cold autumn.

It has always been a pleasure to spend time in his company, regardless of whether it was about planning the work or doing it, about sharing meals, good music or some stories and thoughts along with a glass of wine in the evening.
Lorenzo can tell many stories, he is very passionate and full of life, is interested in all kinds of topics and it is great fun to exchange ideas with him and benefit from his experience.
In Lorenzo you will find an open-minded, generous, friendly and very empathetic host who always tries to put himself in the other person's position, seeking out for dialogue and a common level to interact with eachother.
He deeply respects the personal needs and the space his guests need, his open-minded and warm nature makes it easy to feel comfortable and at home.
The old house with the 1.1 hectares of property (including many olive trees that are hundreds of years old, what is really rare in that area) is his dream coming true. Lorenzo is full of visions and ideas about how to shape and improve the place and offers the workawayer the possibility to not only help him realize them, but to be an actual part of the process.
The work was varied and ranged from weeding to creating new paths in the wild garden, pruning trees and bushes, minor repair work and even landscaping. Lorenzo offered me complete autonomy in choosing the tasks, I was also able to contribute my own ideas and we brainstormed together. From the very beginning, Lorenzo's curiosity, imagination and passion for the place infected and motivated me. I was very happy to see the progress and changes we had made together every day.
Lorenzo's small farm in Gavorrano, a very beautiful, small, old town, is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enchants you with its silence, as well as the chirping of birds and of course: the breathtaking view of the mountains and sea I never could get enough of.
The after-work sunsets are rewarding!

I was really lucky and feel extremely grateful to have been Lorenzos guest.
I can only recommend this experience to everyone!

Norma wrote to me a few weeks before coming to me, and together we found the best time for both of us: it was very nice working together, and I am really very satisfied! I appreciated many things about her: first of all, her flexibility with regard to the Workaway period, in the sense that she was very happy to adapt to my needs and also to date changes, and I really appreciated that. Then I honestly noticed that she had come to me to do Workaway more out of a desire to learn new things, to do outdoor activities and to learn, rather than to take a free holiday, as unfortunately can sometimes happen. In Norma, on the other hand, I noticed a great desire to work, to tidy up the garden, to garden, to use her hands and energy, to learn from me, who is quite a bit older than her and more experienced in farm life.
So I'm very happy, from the first day she came we got along very well, we listened to a lot of music together and had a good time, until the day we went to Florence together, and we said goodbye, although we kept in touch and that makes me very happy!
So the workaway experience with Norma was absolutely great, and I recommend this German girl for whatever help is needed on a farm.

We also created a new path, and Norma helped me cover it with gravel, so working with two people was very quick and we also had fun!
Certainly, for what it's worth, the impression I had of Norma during the days she did workaway at my farm, was that she is an extremely talented and very determined person, and a great help with the gardening work.
In addition to this, she is a very curious and bright person, a quick learner and interested in history, so it is nice to share time together, because in addition to being a good listener, and very open-minded, she is also interested in learning, and we had fun together after having done the workaway hours: and actually the workaway experience with Norma was the best gift I could have received at this time!
Without a doubt she is a very smart and curious girl who learns things very quickly and has a lot of goodwill. Seeing her positive spirit that remained steadfast in the joy of the experience in Italy, filled my heart with joy. From day one we started working together, I was gardening and Norma was helping me a lot by cutting all the branches that had fallen to the ground after the pruning of the last few months, and sorting them into groups of small branches and large branches, so as to give the surroundings a pleasant and tidy appearance, in total harmony with nature, but without too many branches on the ground to trample on! From the second day onwards, along with the work, a deep friendship was born, which led us to talk for many hours, and to share some certainly important moments. I never expected that a girl of such a young age could have such a clear and mature outlook on the world, and I really liked that. From the third day onwards, I even saw that Norma was beginning to settle in perfectly, and she was able to perform each task to the best of her ability, without me having to explain anything to her, which is exactly what I look for in a workawayer. Every day she was very good at cutting all the branches, despite being a young girl, she is very strong and took the activity in the garden as a fun form of gymnastics, which also filled me with joy. Apart from that, from the fourth day onwards she also helped me remove all the branches from the path, and then went on to divide the branches, and cut the big branches so that they were ready to be burnt in the autumn: an excellent job indeed. So we established a very pleasant routine, which involved working in the morning and until afternoon, and then at the end of the afternoon relax and take advantage of the beauty of these places even in the cooler hours.
Norma truly has a deep and infinitely kind soul, and is a special person: but to tell you the truth, the thing I appreciated most about the young but great Norma, besides her sunny spirit and her smile that radiates a contagious happiness, is the fact that she has a great talent and an infinite passion, and I really liked that.
Also Norma is very smart and very active, and I could continue to praise the qualities of this girl from Germany for a long time, but sincerely my greatest wish is that in the next few months she can return here, not only to see the further developments that have been made on the farm, but to continue to take part of this process of improvement and maintenance of wild nature, because she truly is a person who has fit perfectly into this place, loving and respecting it beyond all my expectations, and this has filled me with happiness that I will never forget!

This workaway collaboration experience with Miki was simply perfect and amazing, because she really is an incredible and willing person.
Starting from the very beginning, she was punctual and respectful of the house from the very beginning, and above all we had a great dialogue from the very beginning, also with many passions in common including music, good food (especially my home made pizza!) and of course nature, which Miki enjoyed very much both in my plot and from my terrace, which filled me with joy.
But besides having a lot of fun together, we also worked quite hard, despite the weather, and Miki was very good, because even though she's a young girl she's really very determined and diligent in her work, and never complains. She helped me clear the path to the house, and she helped me gather wood for the winter, to make the fire, and she was really good and always worked really hard, and then she also quickly has removed all the weeds from the path to the house. In addition to this, she helped me clear a large area of my land, where I would like to make a chill-out zone, and she also cut wood with shears so that I could use it to reinforce the fence on my land, in a totally eco-friendly way. Lastly, she was very supportive all the time.
In short, an irreplaceable help and a tireless companion throughout her stay! The highlight was being able to enjoy the sunset every day together, when around six o'clock we stopped working in the garden and could enjoy the colours of nature and the beautiful view of the sea from my terrace among the olive trees. She was also very good at washing the dishes, even though I never asked her to, and it was very nice to enjoy so many delicious dinners together, always listening to lots of music that we would put on first one and then the other. We enjoyed making appetisers, and because we worked a lot, we always arrived hungry at dinner and could enjoy this exquisite time, eating typical Italian dinners, especially with fresh tomatoes straight from my garden!
To sum up, it was an exclusively positive experience, both as a workawayer but also as a new friendship. In fact, we got on very well, which I was very pleased, so we also had the chance to enjoy our friendship and to explore together the beauty of this region and the city of Florence, my birthplace.
And last but not least, she kept me company and it was really wonderful to be able to share a day as friends and also a bit of a tourist in the town of Florence with Miki, who is a pleasant person with whom I never tire of talking and with whom you can share many special experiences.
It's really a pleasure for me to be able to introduce this beautiful area to workawayers from various parts of the world, and with Miki in particular I was always really at ease, both as a workaway collaboration and as a sincere friendship! Above all expectations, truly a positive experience.
So I highly recommend Miki as a workawayer, to anyone who might be interested in her collaboration, because she really is a great girl and a tireless and sensitive worker, with an endless love for nature and animals. A great help to me, and a wonderful person, who loves nature with all her heart.

Soraya arrived here in Gavorrano by bus, quietly from Follonica, and before that, she had arrived by train from Pisa to Follonica.
After a convivial first evening in which we dined together, the next morning we immediately set to work in the garden: she helped me a lot to sort out all the branches that are on the ground after the pruning of the olive trees over the last few months, so she was very good at collecting the branches, dividing them according to size, cutting them, and cleaning up leaves and twigs, collected in small groups.
Besides that, in her spare time she also helped me sew a chair cover for the terrace, with a very nice cloth I already had, and she sewed it to measure!
We also had a lot of fun, and as she loves good food, it was very nice to cook different dishes for her every day, experimenting with new recipes for lunch and dinner, which she certainly enjoyed :)
On the last day we went to the beach together and shared a swim in the sea first, and then a beautiful sunset and also a great pizza, for a splendid evening, where there was also live music.
In fact, in addition to the passion for good food, with Soraya we also shared the passion for good music!
Finally, I highly recommend this Belgian girl, because in addition to being energetic and nice, she is also very strong and very good at working in the garden, and I really appreciated that from the first day she learned to work independently, setting the alarm clock early, to being able to work in the coolest hours of this hot summer.

Then she was working two or three hours in the morning during the cooler hours in the garden, and then two or three hours in the afternoon, when during the warmer hours she helped me a lot with the work on the terrace, in the shade, especially with the work of sewing the fabrics to cover the outdoor chairs and also the outdoor sofa.
Maddalena is a very intelligent girl and it was very nice to be able to share not only moments of dialogue and conversation on many topics, but also moments when each of us would read our own book, perhaps on the terrace, during the hottest hours.
I was also very happy that one day we were able to go to the seaside together, so we spent a different afternoon and went swimming in the sea, and it was a nice coincidence because on that very day some family members came to visit me, in particular my brother and my two nieces, so it was nice to spend some time together, and to combine family fun with workaway fun!
My opinion of Maddalena is therefore very good, and I recommend this workawayer to all those who are looking for a very responsible person, who loves both working in nature and is very good at sewing, embroidery, and she is very organised and intelligent, she learns things quickly and is very good at working independently, qualities that I appreciate very much.
Maddalena is also a very reserved person, so she is never a nuisance in the house, she is always very helpful, and she only speaks when necessary, so she is a very polite and pleasant presence in the house, she is never burdensome and is always helpful.
In addition, she is unpretentious and very well-intentioned, so much so that several times she has worked even longer hours than expected, out of personal passion, especially in sewing. I am very happy that she allowed herself the day off to go to Punta Ala and have a totally relaxing day by the sea, on the beach, quietly.

The highlight was being able to enjoy the sunset every day together, when around six or seven o'clock we stopped working in the garden and could enjoy the colours of nature and the beautiful view of the sea from my terrace among the olive trees. She was also very good at washing the dishes almost every day, even though I never asked her to, and it was very nice to enjoy so many delicious dinners together, always listening to lots of music that we would put on first one and then the other. We enjoyed making appetisers, and because we worked a lot, we always arrived hungry at dinner and could enjoy this exquisite time, eating typical Italian dinners, especially with fresh salad and other produce straight from my garden!
To sum up, it was an exclusively positive experience, both as a workawayer but also as a new friendship. In fact, we got on very well, which I was very pleased, so we also had the chance to enjoy our friendship and to explore together the beauty of this region and this beautiful area that is the Tuscan Maremma.
And last but not least, she kept me company on my birthday, and we went to a very nice beach together, called Cala Martina, and she even cooked a great tiramisu for me! We went together first to the beach, which is very beautiful, and then I showed her some of the coves on the sea off the island of Elba, and it was really wonderful to be able to share a day as friends and also a bit of a tourist with Nadia, who is a pleasant person with whom I never tire of talking and with whom you can share many special experiences. In short, as the song says, it was just a perfect day!
It's really a pleasure for me to be able to introduce this beautiful area to workawayers from various parts of Europe and the world, and with Nadia in particular I was always really at ease, both as a workaway collaboration and as a sincere friendship! Above all expectations, truly a positive experience.
So I highly recommend Nadia as a workawayer, to anyone who might be interested in her collaboration, because she really is a great girl and a tireless and sensitive worker, with an endless love for nature and animals. A great help to me, and a wonderful person, who loves nature with all her heart.

Seeing her positive spirit that remained steadfast in the joy of the experience in Italy, filled my heart with joy. From day one we started working together, I was gardening and Ksenija was helping me a lot by cutting all the branches that had fallen to the ground after the pruning of the last few months, and sorting them into groups of small branches and large branches, so as to give the surroundings a pleasant and tidy appearance, in total harmony with nature, but without too many branches on the ground to trample on!
From the second day onwards, along with the work, a deep friendship was born, which led us to talk for many hours, and to share some certainly important moments. I never expected that a girl of such a young age could have such a clear and mature outlook on the world, and I really liked that. From the third day onwards, I even saw that Ksenija was beginning to settle in perfectly, and she was able to perform each task to the best of her ability, without me having to explain anything to her, which is exactly what I look for in a workawayer.
Every day she was very good at cutting all the branches, despite being a young and skinny girl, she is very strong and took the activity in the garden as a fun form of gymnastics, which also filled me with joy.
From the fourth day on, she even started getting up earlier than me, so that she could start work in the cooler hours, and she has been very kind helping me cook breakfast every day, and very often she has also prepared dinner, and I must say that she cooks really well! What I loved most was when she prepared breakfast for me, and I got up to find everything ready - it was a real gift I will never forget.
Apart from that, from the fifth day onwards he also helped me remove all the weeds from the path, and then went on to divide the branches, and cut the big branches so that they were ready to be burnt in the autumn: an excellent job indeed. On the sixth day it was nearing the end of the trip, and frankly we were both a bit sad because we were getting on very well with the work, so as it was possible for both of us, we decided to extend his stay by a few days so that we could make the most of this wonderful experience for both of us.
So, instead of one week, she ended up staying eleven days, and having more time available together, we established a new very pleasant routine, which involved working in the morning and until early afternoon, and then at the end of the afternoon go to the sea or the lake, so as to take advantage of the beauty of these places even in the cooler and less crowded hours!
One day, she even got up very early and in the coolest hours of the morning, without me asking her, she cleaned the entire terrace, collected the leaves, pulled the weeds, and in short, when I got up I felt like I was still dreaming! She truly has a deep and infinitely kind soul, and is a special person.
But to tell you the truth, the thing I appreciated most about the young but great Ksenija, besides her sunny spirit and her smile that radiates a contagious happiness, is the fact that she has a great talent and an infinite passion for photography and videomaking, and I really liked that.
Ever since I bought this farm, I have always dreamed of finding someone who would be interested in documenting the development of the work, here in nature, and to show for example all the work that can be done by two people in ten days, which is truly incredible work if you compare the before and after photos!
In Ksenija I found the realization of this dream, because she is very good and very active in documenting in a photographic and also video manner, every activity that is carried out, and this is the most beautiful memory both for me and for this farm that comes to life every day, also thanks to the help of the various workawayers.
I could continue to praise the qualities of this girl from Warsaw for a long time, but sincerely my greatest wish is that in the next few months she can return here, not only to see the further developments that have been made on the farm, but to continue to take part of this process of improvement and maintenance of wild nature, because she truly is a person who has fit perfectly into this place, loving and respecting it beyond all my expectations, and this has filled me with happiness that I will never forget.

My time with Lorenzo can only be described as transformational. After a unsuccessful experience at another place, I was so lucky to be able to come to his beautiful home on such short notice.
From the moment he picked me up from the busstop, i instantly felt comfortable and at ease. We started talking about the deeper things in life almost… read more immediately; love, family, passion, meaning. We had a glass of wine and some pizza at a local band night, which was so fun. He is very good at creating a safe and welcoming environment where you quickly feel at home.
The next morning we started working on the garden. The work was easy and very manageable, we made so so much progress in only a week! My main task was removing the olive branches from the patio and helping Lorenzo with the small path down the hill. We did a mixture of bigger and smaller tasks everyday. When i was tired i did some gardening or collected some stones. We listened to music the whole time and really bonded over our love for The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

After my work i mainly just relaxed and read my books. We also took some walks together in Gavorrano and on my day off i took the bus to the beach. The region is beautiful and Gavorrano is a small, but very charming little town.

It is truly amazing to see a place as beautiful as Lorenzo’s come together, being made by all these different hands with so many different story’s. The place feels like love and i can’t wait to come back one day and see how much progress has been made by him and all the others that’ll follow in my footsteps as workawayers. Lorenzo has so many amazing ideas for the property and i just know that one day this place will be a little paradise on earth.

Lorenzo is a man with lots of stories, he traveled a lot in his and he told me so much about the history of the region. He is a man with a lot of life experience, which makes him a wonderful person and great conversationalist. We both met each other in very different points in our life’s, which made it very interesting to talk to one another. We shared our world views and talked about our past as if we’ve known each other for years. He is such a genuine person, who is very eager to learn about himself and the world everyday. He truly became a friend in the short time i stayed at his place. He is respected and was truly able to wind down and relax at his place after all the hard work.

We are both sensitive and emotional people, we laughed and cried together, looked at the sunset and the sunrise, we ate good food and worked hard. I will never forget him and the time we shared together, it was truly meaningful.

Lorenzo, thank you so much for this beautiful experience, i wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I wish you all the best in this life and i truly hope we can meet again someday, in Gavorrano or somewhere else in this world.

We had fun together, and in addition to sharing a love of good food, I found in Jasmijn a great willingness to work, to collaborate, and a desire to fix my farm in the best possible way, making very good use of the time we had. She helped me in the path from my house to the annexe, and she was also very kind, and without having to ask, she helped me keep the house tidy and clean. I found her to be a very kind and helpful person, and we had fun pruning branches together.
I am very happy because I also found in her a friend, and it was nice to talk and tell each other a bit about our lives, our goals, and above all the idea of a totally eco-sustainable farm, an idea that united us from the very first moment.
Jasmijn is very respectful, she understood the important things about the house without the need for me to explain too much, she worked independently cleaning the terrace and the garden, without the need for me to tell her everything step by step, in short a really intelligent and helpful person. We had good breakfasts together, both savoury, with eggs and cheese, and sweet, and plenty of fruit juice. In short, it was a really wonderful and positive experience which I hope to repeat again. Without a doubt, in fact, beyond all expectations, I was really very happy. We did things calmly, without having to wake up too early, working quietly in the daylight hours, resting and chatting together in the evenings, in complete relaxation. I can't pass judgement, because I'm not in a position to do so, but my impression was so positive that I can't wait for her to come back, perhaps in a little while, to help me, and to see how the situation at my farm evolves, also with the help of the next workawayers to come. Above all, we enjoyed beautiful sunsets together from my terrace, and we were in great harmony, so my impression of Jasmijn was exclusively positive and I highly recommend this person for any kind of workaway, because she is very empathetic, intelligent, helpful and willing.
Jasmijn is very flexible and helpful, and I hope to find more people like her on my path, because such a workawayer is truly a fantastic gift, to be welcomed with open arms.

First of all the land is very welcoming, super peaceful and quiet, with a breathtaking sea view from the terrace, where we enjoyed watching the sunset every afternoon after working in the… read more garden. The house is a typical Tuscan country style home, full of vintage decorations and furniture, it is lovely! I had my own room and I slept so good the entire stay. We developed a routine together based on our own needs, very much in sync with each other, which I appreciated very much. Lorenzo is very kind and always asks how you are, making sure that everything is comfortable and enjoyable each step of the way. We took pleasure in having long and meaningful conversations in front of the fireplace (with Lorenzo making the fire every day) and while eating delicious Italian food. You must know that Lorenzo is an amazing cook and he will prepare for you many dishes of the Italian cuisine, my all time favourite being homemade bread and pizza!

One of the things that I enjoyed the most was working outside with Lorenzo. I loved the fact that each morning we got to choose together the tasks for the day and tackle the work in a very chill way, sharing ideas, completing small projects, learning how to use new farm tools, and co-create together to make the garden useful and beautiful. We had a blast working independently but still together in perfect synergy, sharing our passion for music and laughing all day! The work is very rewarding and not tiring at all. I felt very accomplished when we finished working on the access path to the house, and I'm eager and excited to come back and see the place growing and blooming. Lorenzo is a straightforward person, which I really appreciate, he is an excellent communicator, gives clear instructions and you'll never find yourself not knowing what to do. The approach is always to discuss together and find solutions!

Thanks to Lorenzo I got to explore the surrounding areas: we went to the gorgeous Grosseto, to spectacular small beaches immersed in nature near Follonica and my personal favourite, to a small community gathering where I got to cheer Lorenzo as he was having a presentation for his courses. We listened to local live music, ate amazing food and had so much fun! I will cherish every moment. I'm even going to miss the simple walk to get groceries in Gavorrano, and the few chats we had with the neighbours.

Lorenzo is a traveller, full of mind blowing stories and I bet everyone has something to learn from him and his untamed life! I surely learned a lot, and I'd be delighted to keep cultivating the friendship because I genuinely care for him. He is open minded, empathetic and willing to share, exchange perspectives and opinions: it's easy to open up with him and talk about many different topics. He is truly an inspiration for me, his enthusiasm for life and pure heart makes me blessed to call him a friend.

All in all I would say that If you want a worthwhile workaway experience and want your days overfilled with joy, nature, good food and especially a precious person like Lorenzo.. You definitely have to come to Gavorrano!

What can I say, this workaway collaboration experience with Amanda was simply perfect and amazing, and now that she has left I would love for her to come back and continue to help me, as soon as possible, because she really is an incredible and willing person.
Starting from the very beginning, she arrived by car and was punctual and respectful of… read more the house from the very beginning, and above all we had a great dialogue from the very beginning, also with many passions in common including music, good food (especially my pizza Margherita, but also bucatini with vegetables, béchamel and feta, and especially linguine with pesto!) and of course nature, which Amanda enjoyed very much both in my plot and from my terrace, which filled me with joy.
But besides having a lot of fun together, we also worked quite hard, despite the cold weather this autumn, and Amanda was very good, because even though she's a young girl she's really very determined and diligent in her work, and never complains. She helped me clear the whole access path to the house, even using the pickaxe and the shovel, she helped me gather wood for the winter, to make the fire, and she was really good and always worked really hard, and then she also quickly has learnt how to use the weed-hoe and removed all the weeds from the path to the house. In addition to this, she helped me clear plastic from a large area of my land, where I would like to make a chill-out zone, and she also cut wood with shears so that I could use it to reinforce the fence on my land, in a totally eco-friendly way. Lastly, she helped me gather large stones to make dry stone walls, and was very supportive all the time.
In short, an irreplaceable help and a tireless companion throughout her stay! We enjoyed making appetisers, first and second courses, and because we worked a lot, we always arrived hungry at dinner and could enjoy this exquisite time, eating typical Italian dinners, in front of the fire that warmed us.
To sum up, it was an exclusively positive experience, both as a workawayer but also as a new friendship. In fact, we got on very well and Amanda even decided to extend her stay with me, which I was very pleased about because I also wanted her to stay a few more days. So we also had the chance to enjoy our friendship for longer and to explore together the beauty of this region and this beautiful area that is the Tuscan Maremma: we went together first to Grosseto, where we had an aperitif together in the central square of the city, in a very nice place, and then the next day, after working in the morning on my land, we went to a party, in a theatre where I organise various courses (yoga, theatre, Spanish and creative writing), so it was nice to share with Amanda this event that for me was both a party but also a work event, with live music and a wonderful dinner all together in the theatre, in a typically Tuscan and spontaneous festive atmosphere.
And last but not least, on the last day, which was her day off, we went together first to the beach at Follonica, which is very beautiful even in the autumn, and then I showed her some of the coves on the sea off the island of Elba, for example Cala di Portiglioni, Cala Felice, and also Cala di Terra Rossa, and it was really wonderful to be able to share a day as friends and also a bit of a tourist with Amanda, who is a pleasant person with whom I never tire of talking and with whom you can share many special experiences. We ended the day by going to Scarlino, a medieval village near Gavorrano, and we also saw the ancient 13th century fortress, which is very beautiful. In short, as the song says, it was just a perfect day!
It's really a pleasure for me to be able to introduce this beautiful area to workawayers from various parts of Europe and the world, and with Amanda in particular I was always really at ease, both as a workaway collaboration and as a sincere friendship, indeed I must admit that it was absolutely the best workaway experience I've had so far and that I could ever imagine! We had fun cooking pizza together, first a special pizza with potatoes and courgettes, then a classic Italian-style pizza Margherita. But in addition to sharing a love of good food, I found in Beyza a great willingness to work, to collaborate, and a desire to fix my farm in the best possible way, making very good use of the time we had. She helped me put tiles in the path from my house to the annexe, she helped me a lot to collect all the plastic that the previous owners of the farm had left on the ground all over the farm, as I really wanted to have a plastic-free farm! She was also very kind, and without having to ask, she helped me keep the house tidy, clean the kitchen and re-do the dishes after meals. I found her to be a very kind and helpful person, and we had fun pruning branches, throwing away everything we didn't need (including an old television that we disposed of in special waste!), sorting the broken pots from the whole ones, throwing away all the plastic pots too. And then, above all, I needed this wonderful experience to practice my French, which I honestly hadn't spoken in a while.
I am very happy because I also found in her a friend, and it was nice to talk and tell each other a bit about our lives, our goals, and above all the idea of a totally eco-sustainable farm, an idea that united us from the very first moment.
