Are you 22+ and have experience with hostels, traveling, or volunteering? Are you a free thinker who likes to take initiative? Do you know what its like to live with roommates or on your own? Do you keep a clean and organized personal space? Do you know how to problem solve? Make good decisions? Have the experience to back you?

Welcome to our Hostel, Uvita, Costa Rica!

Located in the vibrant heart of Uvita, we’re surrounded by some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful landscapes—primary rainforests, stunning beaches for surfing, waterfalls, and a host of activities like hiking, zip-lining, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Plus, we’re close to fantastic restaurants, eco-retreats, and national parks, making this the perfect place to experience the best of the region.

Our hostel is not just a place to stay—it’s an experience! Modeled after a ship, you can:
    - Practice yoga on our deck
    - Lounge in hammocks
    - Cook in the “galley” (our shared kitchen)
    - Bunk in your very own cabin below deck
    - Relax by the bonfire
    - Enjoy easy walks to the beach, grocery stores, waterfalls, banks, the bus station, and more

We’re centrally located in town—convenient, but not quiet—so expect a lively atmosphere. We’re looking for volunteers who want to contribute more than just the basics. If you’re excited about improving our space, whether by painting, crafting, developing new systems, or organizing events, we’d love to have you! We want team members who are passionate and ready to bring fun, creativity, and inspiration to the hostel.

While we do have a dedicated staff house on site for longer term management roles, complete with its own kitchen and bathroom, we may also have 1 or 2 volunteers staying in the hostel alongside guests for a shorter term option. When applying, please indicate which option best suits you. Management needs to be available for at least 3 months and HAVE MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE! It becomes very clear after a few weeks who is experienced and who is not. Please be clear with what you can offer. We may still have a place for you as a volunteer. Honesty is key.

Your first few days will be a trial period to make sure it's the right fit for both sides. If it’s not working out, we’ll give you at least 3 days to find your next place, and we’ll help you with the transition. We want the experience to be mutually beneficial.

**Important: We are not a party hostel.**
We’ve been open for two years, and 90% of our guests are in bed by 9-10 pm, gearing up for tours, yoga, or hikes early the next morning. Late-night partying until 4 am with a mess to clean up the next day has only happened when volunteers initiated it. So, if partying is your priority, this isn’t the right place. There are bars nearby for late-night vibes, but we ask you to be quiet when returning to the hostel. Most guests appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and a good night’s sleep.

That said, we love fun—just the mellow kind! We enjoy music, dancing, yoga, board games, storytelling, and group activities. We focus on creating meaningful connections and making lasting memories.

At our Hostel, volunteers will immerse themselves in the vibrant, multicultural atmosphere of Uvita. Our location allows for an authentic Costa Rican experience, from exploring the breathtaking rainforests, waterfalls, and beaches to engaging with the local community. You’ll have opportunities to practice or improve your Spanish, learn about Costa Rican culture and eco-tourism, and connect with guests from all over the world.

You’ll also gain hands-on experience in hospitality, learning how to create a welcoming environment and manage the daily operations of a hostel. Whether you’re helping us with special projects, or simply interacting with guests, you’ll develop even more communication and teamwork skills, but of course, we hope you already have them!

If you have a creative side, there’s plenty of space for that too! We encourage volunteers to take initiative—whether it’s hosting an event, creating art, or developing new ideas that make the hostel an even better place for everyone. Our community vibe fosters personal growth and lasting connections, making this more than just a volunteer experience—it’s a chance to be part of our family.

Plus, you’ll get to enjoy the natural beauty of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, from surfing to hiking, while learning about sustainable living and eco-conscious tourism.

We’re looking for volunteers who are ready to become part of something truly special. Our hostel is more than just a business—it’s a labor of love that Sander and Cristina have poured their hearts into. Every corner of the space reflects the care and pride we take in creating a welcoming, family-friendly environment.

We value creating a close-knit, family-like atmosphere, and the hostel is a major part of our lives. Sometimes, volunteers help with daily tasks like cleaning and guest services, while other times, we find someone who is perfect to spend time with our daughter, who was born in April. Depending on the needs of the hostel and your skills, you might also be working in the garden, building special projects, or helping us complete our daily checklists.

We ask for 25 hours of work per week, typically in 5-hour shifts, though many volunteers choose to work double shifts so they can enjoy more consecutive days off. While we don’t live on-site, we’re always just 20 minutes away and are involved every day, making sure our guests and volunteers feel at home. We often make the schedule side by side with our staff in staff meeting and do our best to accommodate everyone's needs.

Being part of the family means joining us in a space that’s deeply meaningful to us. We love bringing people together, and we look forward to sharing this experience with you.

    Acomodação

We offer two types of accommodation for our volunteers depending on your role.
The first is our management house (located right next to the hostel), which features a large shared bedroom that can accommodate 2 people with one shared bed. The house also includes a bathroom and kitchen. While the kitchen is available, we prefer when management enjoys cooking with guests and spending time in the main hostel areas to foster our community vibe. This house is for couples staying long term 4+ months and wants to mange the hostel and take on more responsibility in exchange for their own private house.

We offer a single bed "below deck" in the hostel to volunteers staying for at least one month. They’ll have a bed with a privacy curtain, a personal cubby, outlets, reading lights, and a locker. The space is air-conditioned and provides a sense of privacy once the curtain is drawn. However, we ask that the dorm remains a quiet space meant for rest, not for loud conversations or hangouts.

We also share the space with our two small dogs and a cat. They are never permitted in the cabin sleep space but they do sleep in the management house when they are there. These lovely animals, once street animals, are now hostel pets, always happy to receive cuddles and attention from our guests. Sometimes we take them home with us, but they are mostly here as part of the hostel family.
