  • Description

    Marjo:
Happily married to Vincent, whom you can find here as the 2nd workawayer.
Mother of 3 wonderful adult children.

After working 24 years (long and hard) as a self-employed therapist, I feel that it's time for a big change. It's time to let go of work (mostly) and explore the world, to enjoy all the beauty it offers and have more free time.
A 'regular' vacation is no longer enough; I want to fully immerse myself in a country and its inhabitants.

My friends describe me as a colorful person, caring, eager to learn, broadly interested, creative, optimistic, joyful, enterprising, adventurous, open-minded, and having a big heart.

    My greatest passion is whales!
In 2006, I had my first encounter with whales. From the very first moment I dipped my toe in the water - to swim with the whales - I knew: this is where I belong. Here, in the water with the whales. I record podcasts and write about traveling and swimming with whales. I search all over the world for places to be in contact with whales.

I have many hobbies: photography, reading, watching movies, playing games at the table, writing, making music, singing, hiking, swimming, gardening, nature, and creative activities like making clothes and epoxy art.
Spirituality in all its facets is essential to me, but always with my feet on the ground.
I am open to learning new things; it keeps my mind sharp and makes me a more complete person.

Vincent and I have had some beautiful trips: Oman, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Egypt, Sao Jorge (Azores), Tonga and Norway. Especially Tonga and Norway, we want to explore further. Of course, because we can be with whales there. :-)
During all our travels, we stayed in homestays. Fancy hotels are not for us; we find it much more enjoyable to connect with the locals, to experience what really matters in a country.

    Vincent:
Happily married to Marjo, with three bonus children from her.

After working for 18 years in a printing press as an offset 4-color printer and handling various post-printing tasks, I embarked on a meditation journey through a mother of an old classmate. This led me to yoga, and I turned my hobby into my profession, running my own yoga studio for the past 11 years. However, it's time for the next new step.

I am a master at improvising in almost everything I come across - be it teaching, baking, or doing household repairs. I find thinking out of the box fantastic, or as we say here in the Netherlands, "roeien met de riemen die je hebt" (making the best of the situation with the resources available) and achieving a beautiful and desirable outcome.

My greatest passion is movement in all possible ways - yoga, strength training, capoeira, handstands, balancing on rails, and keeping objects in balance. Music is also a significant hobby of mine, and playing the handpan is an integral part of my life.

When I met Marjo in 2011, I, too, fell in love with whales and dolphins, and we have had the privilege of swimming with them together, on several occasions.

Apart from these passions, I have many hobbies such as cooking, hiking, listening to music, gardening, and making/repairing things in the house. I enjoy reading about various topics, including philosophies, history, novels, science, and spirituality - essentially, whatever comes my way.

As Marjo already mentioned, I also cherish simple yet meaningful human connections while traveling and visiting other countries and cultures. After all, we humans have more similarities than differences.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Wherever we are guests, we offer our expertise to the host family or other interested people, like neighbours or friends.
We can provide the following services: yoga classes (various styles), meditation, mantra singing, personal training (which can also be continued online), handstand training, cold training including breathwork, strength and mobility training, functional osteopathy, shiatsu, various massage, and relaxation techniques.
We are spiritual people, but with both feet on the ground and with our hands in the soil ;-)

    Marjo:
I am a self-employed entrepreneur and have been working for 24 years in my own practice, specializing in shiatsu and other forms of massage. I have both Western medical and Eastern training.

In addition to my work, I also record podcasts and write about whale travels and whale encounters.

During my youth, I sailed a lot with my parents and participated in rowing competitions.
So, I'm used to being on the water. As they say in Dutch: 'ik heb zeebenen', means "I have sea legs."
During the Covid19 period, I studied hard and obtained my "international certificate for operators of pleasure craft" - this means that I am allowed to navigate on inland waters and coastal waters with a boat of up to 25 meters - as well as a basic VHF certificate.

Volunteering experience like: holding various board positions in associations and organizations, organizing workshops and brainstorming sessions for my field of expertise, going on 15 vacations with severely disabled young individuals (providing care), and volunteering at an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

    Communication comes easily to me.
I can play the handpan and sing mantras accompanied by the ukulele.

I'm skilled in household tasks. But I also am skilled in painting, sanding, basic carpentry, fixing small things, gardening, sewing (clothes).
I am skilled in social media, like Intstagram and love writing and photography
    I love children ánd animals.
And I also love to learn new skills.

    Vincent:
I have been working in my own yoga studio for the past 10 years. I teach Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, and meditation. Additionally, for the last 4 years, I have been undergoing training in Movement and have created my own approach called Yokramo, which is a beautiful blend of Yoga, strength, and mobility.

I previously taught at the Yin Yoga Academy, where I trained yoga instructors. And also taught a few years at the Samsara school of Yoga, specilising at the asana's (postures)
Apart from Yoga, I also have knowledge of Wing Chung (Kung Fu).

I am highly skilled at improvisation and can turn any class into a joyful experience, tailored to the specific needs of each participant.

Together with Marjo, I have organized several yoga retreats. We have just returned from a fantastic yoga retreat in the Lofoten (Norway).

I am pretty good interior painter and can do small carpentery work, I like to fix things. And like I always say a job is only finished after averthings I clean and organisid again. Therby is clean something I like to do, because there is alweays a good result from this, so I do this with a smile.

I can tinker with cars a little bit. However, I'm better at repairing bicycles since we come from a country known for its cycling. :-)

I am a passionate handpan player.
    I love children and animals.
And I love to learn new skills.

  • Autres infos...

We both play the handpan, each in our own way. There's a good chance we'll bring a handpan along on our journey and also a ukulele to sing mantras.

Marjo loves all kind of board games. She really enjoy Carcassonne, but haven't played it enough. The Game is also fun. Scrabble in a new language. :-) Or any other (new) board game.

We are both interested in other people and enjoy engaging in meaningful conversations. For us, everyone is equal, regardless of race, culture, or religion. We consider it a privilege to learn from everyone who crosses our path.

We are always open and eager to learn new things and skills.

We are both in good health and consider a healthy body and a healthy mind very important.
