Are you looking to make a hands-on, lasting difference? Join us as a passionate volunteer on Mfangano Island, Kenya, where we are working side by side with the local community to support vulnerable children. We are already 70% of the way through our project timeline and need your skills to help us cross the finish line!
Our Current Projects
To ensure everyone's safety, all volunteer activities focus strictly on safe, ground-level tasks—no climbing or hazardous electrical work is involved:
10,000L Water Tank Installation: Set up a massive clean water system at ground level to secure reliable drinking water and sanitation.
Tank Stand Assembly Support: Assist local professional builders with ground-level logistics, tool organization, and structural prep work.
Learning House Completion: Put the final touches on a welcoming school by assisting with digging, laying safe flooring, painting, and basic interior finishes.
Permaculture & Food Security: Help design and plant sustainable community gardens and food forests to provide long-term, nutritious food security for the children.
Who We Are Looking For
You don't need to be a professional builder to make an impact. We welcome:
Hands-on Helpers & Gardeners: For ground-level painting, digging, mixing, simple assembly, and permaculture planting.
Educators & Youth Mentors: To organize activities, music, games, and basic lessons for the children.
Community Enthusiasts: To coordinate daily logistics, support the local team, and document progress through storytelling and photos.
Remote Advocates: To manage digital outreach, help with project coordination, or spread the word online from anywhere in the world.

Cultural Exchange on Mfangano Island
Life on Mfangano Island is a beautiful journey of sharing culture with the Abasuba people, the indigenous community of the island. Volunteers are welcomed into everyday island life, learning directly from local families, elders, and students while experiencing the rich heritage of the Olusuba culture.
You will have opportunities to:
Prepare and share traditional Suba meals with local families, students, and church members, learning the customs, stories, and hospitality that shape life on the island.
Learn and practice Olusuba, the local language of the Abasuba people, through daily conversations, songs, storytelling, and community interaction.
Join in vibrant fellowship gatherings where culture is expressed through local music, dance, and communal celebration rooted in island traditions.
Experience authentic island life along the shores of Lake Victoria, enjoying fishing , peaceful sunsets, nature walks, and the beauty of God’s creation.
Participate in cultural traditions, community activities, and meaningful conversations that reflect the values of unity, respect, faith, and togetherness within the Mfangano community.
This is more than a cultural exchange; it is a genuine sharing of life and cultural heritage. Through the Abasuba people and the beauty of Olusuba culture, volunteers leave Mfangano Island with lasting friendships and a deep appreciation for the unique identity and traditions of the island community. -

The volunteer accommodation is set on a spacious, beautiful farm surrounded by lush trees and vibrant gardens, designed to feel like a peaceful, natural sanctuary.
The Environment: It offers a quiet, dedicated space nestled within a casier trees that is perfect for reading, meditating, or simply immersing yourself in nature.
The Location: The farm is situated right near the lake, giving you easy access to the lakeshore for swimming or catching breathtaking sunrises and sunsets.
Community Setup: The accommodation typically hosts two or more volunteers at a time to foster a warm, inclusive, and collaborative community atmosphere, though solo volunteers are equally welcome.
On-Site Support: A friendly host and groundskeepers live on-site to look after your needs, manage the property, and ensure you feel completely at home.
Nurturing Meals & Cultural Exchange: We provide three delicious, wholesome meals every single day. Sundays feature a uniquely meaningful culinary tradition: our Sunday Food Exchange. On this day, volunteers visit the nearby local market together to select fresh, regional ingredients and cook a special meal for the host family. It is a beautiful cornerstone of our program, allowing everyone to connect deeply, share stories, and swap cultural traditions through food. -

Mfangano Island
Mfangano Island is truly a paradise for nature lovers and those who delight in God’s creation. The island is alive with birdsong, landscapes, and beutiful peaks offering stunning views a daily reminder of the beauty of our Creator.
Our homestead is on the east-south side of the island. There’s much to see and experience on other parts of the island, as well as on nearby islands, especially on your days off.
Traveling around the island is part of the adventure:
You can walk, ride motorcycles, or take small motorboats.
Motorboats can transport volunteers to different points along the shore
For the adventurous, it’s possible to walk the entire ring road around the island in one day.
Whether you seek quiet reflection in nature, birdwatching, or active exploration, Mfangano Island offers abundant opportunities to see all this. -
