Welcome to our growing project on the shores of Lake Victoria!
We’re Florence and Gabriel — passionate about permaculture, eco-building, and community transformation. Together with local families, we’re creating a space of learning, regeneration, and hope.
Here, volunteers and locals work side by side to grow food, build sustainably, and share ideas for lasting change. 🌍

Life here is all about sharing and learning. Guided by local leaders, you’ll experience the traditions of Mfangano Island while connecting with an international group. From cooking local meals with our students, church members and learning the language to enjoying lakeside sunsets, it’s a true exchange of culture, knowledge, and friendship.

We’re growing and always looking for creative, hands-on volunteers to help bring our ideas to life! 💡
Right now, we’re working on:
🐓 Feeding & caring for our poultry house — helping us create a sustainable system for chickens and compost.
🐟 Building an aquaponic fish pond inside our food forest — combining fish, plants, and water in harmony.
🍌 Designing banana circles & keyhole gardens — fun, practical ways to recycle water and grow more food naturally.
We also welcome volunteers with creative or technical skills to help us grow our impact:

🎥 Videography & digital storytelling — help us film and share our Mfangano Island story of culture, community, and regeneration.

🏡 Accommodation & Meals
Volunteers stay in a comfortable shared house with a kitchen, shower, latrine, and cozy living space — plus a quiet spot in the food forest for those who enjoy peaceful solo time. 🌳
You’ll be surrounded by trees and close to the lake — the perfect place to unwind, reflect, or take a swim after a day’s work. WiFi is available nearby for those who wish to stay connected.
We usually host two or more volunteers and provide three wholesome meals daily:
🍲 Two meals lovingly prepared by our local church members,
🌿 and dinner cooked together with us — often using fresh produce from the garden.
🌴 Weekends & Community Life
Weekends are yours to relax or explore the island — enjoy the lake, visit nearby villages, or simply rest in nature.
On Sundays, we share a special Food Exchange with our church family — volunteers help prepare a community meal using ingredients from the farm. It’s a joyful time of cooking, music, and connection. 🎶

Mfangano Island is a nature-lovers paradise with plenty of birdlife, hikes and peaks with stunning panoramic views. We are on the east south side of the island and exposed to sun rise, but there is much to see and experience on the other parts of the island as well as the other nearby islands on your days off.
We either walk or take boat and motorcycles around (no more cars on the island !) and there are motor boats to transport people to different points on the island. It is possible to walk the whole ring road around the island in one day (if you start very early in the morning !).
