Hi! My name is Caterina, I am from Cambridge, England. I am a recently graduated vet at Cambridge University and am now taking a gap year before I work in a mixed species clinic. In the future, after a few years of clinical work, and would like to work in conservation research in the future!
I love travelling and learning from locals how they manage their own projects, picking up skills everywhere and teaching, what I can, to others.
Although i have always lived in the same place i have really enjoyed travelling, doing veterinary placements around the world, meeting new people, eating new food, having the most wonderful exploring other culturesCentres d’intérêt

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
During the first year of my degree, we had weekly animal handling sessions learning about the basic principles of animal handling of horses, cows, sheep, cats, dogs, poultry, and pigs. In addition to this I have spent many weeks lambing on a farm in Wales, milking cows in Jersey, scraping pig and horse muck in England! Not to mention catching turtles in Costa Rica...
When in Peru and Kenya, I got involved in building projects. We fashioned animal pens out of bamboo, built ladders, cleared paths through forests. Although I am no carpenter or architect, I certainly would love to learn as I have hopes of building my own off-grid home one day!
I have ecological research projects involving Caribbean squid collective behaviour, human-wildlife conflict in Kenya, and turtle parasites in Costa Rica. This has involved field research as well as coding, data analysis and scientific report writing.
At home, my parents have an allotment which I and my sisters help out with during the holidays. My mum is Italian, from a tiny farm in Abruzzo. I've helped harvest the olives, all done by hand, which we then went to the local press to turn it into olive oil, as well as looking after the animals and hiking in the mountains.
I love crafting as well, I always spend my free time painting, crotcheting, needle felting... making little gifts for friends and such.
Finally I love to cook! (..and eat!)
I'd love to learn more about construction and fixing mechanical problems!Âge

Autres infos...
I love games. I get very competitive with Scrabble and Hearts is probably my favourite card game. One of my favourite things about travelling is learning new games from other countries .
I also absolutely ADORE dancing. I started with learning ballet at the age of 6 and since I started University have now developed an obsession with swing, salsa and forro but my all time favourite is a massive ceilidhs where everyone gets involved regardless of level of skill!
I really do love film photography, even so much that I take my old clunky cameras of 120mm, 35mm and even super 8 everywhere I go.
I am is a very basic guitar player, something I picked up over lockdowns (including cartwheeling and whistling with my fingers), and am trying to learn some gypsy jazz and spanish tunes. Apart from that muscially I can just muck around on the piano keys.
Oh, and I love animals! we will happily befriend the scruffiest of stray dogs! I have been known to leave my travelling to go home to family pet emergency. They are worth it.Informations complémentaires

I loved how the workaway functioned. You live in a separate house and when I was there there were loads of volunteers so we would have a great time together in our breaks and weekends. You are just by the lake so you can pop in for a swim or bath when you need!
They have set times to come over for breakfast,… read more
Ezgi and Eric were amazing. Ezgi is so kind and has a lot of time to explain how things work and just for general good chats.
You were spend most of your time with David and Michael, the two workers. They are lovely,… read more
