We have created a small, intentional community in the mountains of Costa Rica. We have 5 houses. We live in one and rent 4 others, 3 tiny houses. We have 3 acres, 12,000 m2 and have over 50 fruit trees, a vegetable garden area, a green house and grow herbs. We have many projects going on and lots to take care of. We are only able to host individuals at this time, just one person at a time. We are particularly interested in hosting people who are spiritual in nature and care deeply about the earth.

We are in a rural area with dairies, flower farms, coffee farms around. We are half way up the Barva Volcano, which has a national park. People here do not tend to speak anything other than Spanish. It is a very different area than the typical tourist areas.
The help that we need done here will vary… heavy garden work, chopping and mowing grass, trimming trees, chopping up wood, weeding beds, maintenance, painting, constructing and whatever else needs doing. The volunteer is considered a necessary person here and it needs to be a person who desires to put in the hours, not just have a holiday. Sometimes the volunteer will be working alone and sometimes there will be other community members working alongside.
There is an opportunity to participate in community activities such as yoga, drumming, pot lucks, etc.
We live at 5700 feet / 1737 meters in the mountains of Heredia. It is rural, but town is a short bus ride away. This is a very tranquil spot for those who like to live quietly, enjoying nature. Our temperatures here are between 60 - 80 F / 15.5 - 26.6 C year round. You need some clothing for cooler climates. It can be chilly.
The area available to stay has a comfortable single bed and a bathroom a short distance away with a warm water shower. We cannot accommodate more than 1 person The bus passes our front gate to Heredia. From Heredia, you can take a train or bus to San Jose and then to anywhere in the country. We are about 40 minutes to the SJO airport.
You must be easy going, kind, patient and into living mindfully. We use alternative medicine for all but injuries, eat simple organic local foods (ie. rice, beans, vegetables, eggs), read a lot and enjoy being home on our beautiful mountain property. Anyone with building skills, art skills, welding skills are very welcome.
We are mostly interested in people with a little more life experience, who are independent and happy to be away from it all. Skills in gardening and household / building repairs are important. We take time in between volunteers and are not always in a position to have someone here.
We live on the slopes of the Barva Volcano, part of the Braulio Carillo National Park. Barva Volcano is extinct. We live above the little town of San Jose de la Montana, above the slightly larger town of Barva, just minutes from the city of Heredia. There is a bus that passes by our front gate 5 times daily, going down the mountain.
It is rural with dairies and flower exporters around us, as well as local people. This is not the place to come if you are looking for nightlife or action. This is a quiet, tranquil place. We are 2 hours from Jaco, on the Pacific coast, the nearest beach town. Costa Rica is a small country but travel is slow and it takes longer to get places than one might imagine.

Our front gate is 2.5 meters high. We can accommodate vehicles that can fit inside.
