Description
Welcome to our project in Costa Rica! Our family recently moved here with the dream of developing our property into a space for gathering and sharing ideas about sustainability, meditation, and health. Our property spans around three acres and boasts stunning views. We have several themed cottages scattered throughout the property and trails for you to enjoy nature. While we're in the mountains, we believe the weather is perfect, and on some days, we go for walks to neighboring projects. We also love to explore the local city life and learn more about the Costa Rican culture. We're excited to invite like-minded individuals to join us on this journey of sustainability and personal growth.

Our location is half way up the Barva Volcano, which is a national park and we are surrounded by dairy farms, flower fields, and coffee plantations. It's a lovely place where you can interact with local Costa Rican people. Please note that Spanish is the primary language spoken here. It's not a touristy area, but there are interesting hiking trails nearby. On weekends we go to the local farmer's market and you're welcome to join.

Aide
Typical daily tasks are composting, prunning and maintaining the gardens and grounds.
Additionally, we have occasional specific tasks such as painting, house maintenance or cutting wood. We also welcome your unique skills and ideas to identify specialized projects during your stay.
Reciprocity is a core principle for us, and we want you to have a rewarding experience. However, we want to emphasize that this is not a free holiday.

Hébergement
For your stay, we offer a single-person cabin situated in the tranquil forest area. The cabin includes a simple bed and a nearby bathroom with hot water. Basic amenities such as a mini refrigerator and a stovetop with basic kitchen utensils are provided for your convenience. Additionally, basic food is provided.
We live at 5700 feet / 1737 meters in the mountains of Heredia. It is rural, but town is a short bus ride away. This is a very tranquil spot for those who like to live quietly, enjoying nature. Our temperatures here are between 60 - 80 F / 15.5 - 26.6 C year round. You need some clothing for cooler climates. It can be chilly!

In our family, we enjoy yoga, reading, and spending time at our mountain home. There may be times when we are away, so feeling at ease with independent work and proactive approaches is crucial. If you bring construction or art skills, your presence will be highly appreciated. Though we prefer those with more life experience, if our project resonates with you, you'll find a warm welcome.
In exchange for your help and work, we will either have a small stipend for you to go to the market and purchase your food and/or we will have basics available for you to cook your own simple organic local foods (ie. rice, beans, vegetables, eggs),
The bus passes 5 times a day near our front gate heading down the mountain to Heredia. From Heredia, you can take a train or bus to San Jose and then to anywhere in the country. We are about 40 minutes to the SJO airport.
We are 2 hours from Jaco, on the Pacific coast, the nearest beach town. Costa Rica is a small country but travel is slow and it takes longer to get places than one might imagine.

Laurin was a wonderful volunteer and we are happy he stayed with us. He did some work on a path and painted a building for us. He was helpful in the kitchen and very enjoyable to talk with. He is laid back and grateful. I highly recommend him.

We spent one week in this beautiful place, where we met Wendy, Eric, Tad and their funny dogs! Their project of creating a peaceful community, surrounded by nature matches perfectly with the spot and the people. We felt a peaceful atmosphere with good energies!

Nada and Lloyd were wonderful volunteers. They were calm, quiet and did everything we suggested they might do. Lloyd also helped with some electrical projects. I would have them back in a heartbeat and have no problem recommending them. We even got to listen to Lloyd play his guitar and enjoyed that so much. Blessed souls!!!

Ashley is wonderful to have here. She communicates very well. She is easy going. She does what she says she will do. We are glad she is here for 3 weeks. She is honest and gets along well with our dogs. She is independent and smart. She is friendly and gets along with everyone. Our young granddaughter loves her. We highly recommend Ashley.

Eric and Wendy were excellent hosts. Their home sits in the midst of a gorgeous property, located high above the city of San Jose. The view was amazing and the meals they prepared were superb.

I truly enjoyed staying here I was sad to leave. Wendy and Eric were amazing hosts. I enjoyed hanging out with them and their animals. I was glad I had space to read and learn about myself. Aquila stayed with us for a few weeks in October of 2018. She is a positive, happy young woman. She is willing to work and enjoys projects. She quietly did the tasks asked of her. She is vegan and fairly low maintenance.

Beautiful, wonderful and relaxing place. Wendy and Erich are AWESOME along with Zeke! We fully enjoyed every second we spent with them, their plants, and dogs :) We had meaningful conversations and amazing food was shared! We will return again sometime soon!

Rae and Axel just left after spending several weeks here. They were the best volunteers and we have invited them back, if they can fit it in. I highly recommend these happy, healing living, hard working people. They are young, but more mature than many much older!
