    Description

My name is Perico, and I manage a small guesthouse and our family’s private conservation area, located near Chachapoyas in northern Peru. We’re looking for motivated and nature-loving volunteers to help with daily life at our home and guesthouse, care for our dogs, and contribute to our ongoing efforts to protect this beautiful environment.

It is the first conservation area established in the seasonally tropical deciduous forest of northern Peru. It lies at about 1,800 meters above sea level, in a unique transitional zone where the Andes and the Amazon meet. Here, you’ll find an extraordinary mix of ecosystems — from dry forests to cloud forests — unlike the typical lowland Amazon jungle.

At lowland Amazon, Andean, and mid-elevation tropical deciduous ecosystems coexist in one place, creating a hotspot of biodiversity. The reserve’s buildings are surrounded by a beautiful and growing botanical garden, where native trees and plants are protected and studied.

This Andes–Amazon region is recognized as a global conservation priority, home to many endemic species of flora and fauna found nowhere else on Earth. The forests around the Utcubamba River valley still hold valuable hardwood species such as tropical cedar and walnut trees, along with abundant wildlife — from birds and foxes to deer and small wild cats.

The Utcubamba Valley itself is spectacular: forest-covered hills, steep canyons, and mountains rise thousands of feet above the river, offering breathtaking views and endless opportunities for exploration. The area is also rich in archaeological sites — including Incan and Chachapoyas ruins, with the famous fortress of Kuelap just a short trip away.

It’s a peaceful, inspiring environment — perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors and simple living.

During your stay, you’ll also have the chance to explore some of the most amazing places in northern Peru. From ancient Chachapoyas ruins and hidden waterfalls to traditional villages and vibrant markets, there’s so much to see and experience.

It is the perfect place to learn about the rich Chachapoyas culture, practice your Spanish, discover Peruvian cooking, and connect with nature at the same time. It’s not just a volunteer experience — it’s an opportunity to slow down, learn new skills, and become part of a meaningful project in one of Peru’s most beautiful regions.

Right now, we are mainly looking for volunteers who can help with:
    - Housekeeping and cleaning around the guesthouse and main house
    - Cooking and meal preparation for oneself
    - Dog care – feeding, walking, and spending time with our friendly dogs
    - Gardening

If you enjoy creating a welcoming and organised environment, love animals, you’ll fit right in!

We also really appreciate creative volunteers — people who enjoy photography, writing, gardening, art, or sustainable living ideas. There’s always room for imagination and new projects!

Volunteers wil stay in a comfortable room in a side building with it's own bathroom and shower right next to the main building. Unfortunately at the moment there is no electricity yet in this newly renovated side building (torches, gas lamps and candles can be provided, phones can be charged in the main building).

There’s a small village (Nogalcucho) nearby where you can easily buy food, snacks, and other essentials. Volunteers also have plenty of free time to explore the main tourist attractions in the area — such as the impressive Kuelap Fortress, the stunning Gocta Waterfalls, the Yalape ruins, the fascinating Leimebamba Museum, the Revash mausoleums, and the breathtaking Lagoon of the Condors.

Public transportation is available between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., making it easy to get around and discover everything this region has to offer.
