Kia Ora! My name is Shanelle and I am from Malaysia, currently holding a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa! I am currently in Napier city assisting to manage an Escape Room and Backpackers as part of my WHV experience! Before I embark on my WHV journey, I used to be an Architectural and Interior Designer in Singapore holding a Permanent Residency. I am keen to explore the next city to live and create memories with meaningful acquaintances. ☺️

I am turning 29 this September and so far, I would describe my current self to be in an utterly grateful state in life, as I have always been given so much kindness and love from the people around me. Of course there are bad days as well, but I always believe in taking a positive and gentle approach to seeing things in life, be the kindness and sincerity that I hope to see and then good things and people will eventually come. Little or big acts, we will never know when will we leave meaningful and positive traces in someone else's life. Meanwhile out of so many things that one can pursue in life, I tend to find my biggest joy in appreciating the little things, like watching sunsets, being out in a great sunny day or getting a flower for myself which often brightens up my mood. I also enjoy doing things that create the space for me to focus on myself such as Yoga, reading, writing a journal etc. I also picked up guitar and skateboarding as interest and love to explore more of what I can learn!

As a designer, I always seek to broaden my horizon and lens of the world that I have and have not seen. I am invested in personal growth by exploring and experiencing different cultures as I have been to quite a number of countries like Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan to live and work. I adapt well in different environment, am a fast learner and easy to approach. My profession requires me to have a keen eye for detail and good coordination skills with various parties, whilst being an important team player. Interacting with people with different backgrounds and also visiting different places exposing myself to various cultures make me feel inspired from time to time. I love hearing and also sharing stories, I used to call myself a memory hoarder, as I can never seem to erase all the beautiful moments that I have managed to capture on my camera. I hope to share the world that I see because trust me, it is indeed mesmerizing. I signed up for Workaway simply to experience and meet different lives, and I truly believe it will be a fruitful journey full of surprises.

Que habilidades tienes?

As a designer, I would describe myself to have a good sense and creativity. As my expertise is in Interior and Architecture, I am good with maintenance or furnishing of spaces, let it be on paper or even hands on. I also used to manage different parties to run a construction project. Other than my own profession, I have also experienced working in a farm as a harvester during my working holiday. Currently I am working in a Backpackers and Escape Room as manager to host games and events. I also master different languages such as Mandarin (mother tongue), English, Malay, Cantonese and also casually learning Korean.
