Despite growing up with all the facilities of a small city, it was next to the Rocky Mountains of Canada. Very "great outdoors" vibes and DIY was a way of life.
So exposure to rural/farm life, wild animals, hunting/fishing and livestock was a pretty common occurrence. My mother was an agricultural vet so we spent a lot of time at the barns, especially during caving/lambing seasons though at that age I only got to watch.
Hiking, fishing, horseback ridding, skiing/ water skiing, camping, chopping wood/ making fires for warmth and cooking (personal favourites), garden/landscaping and general out door activities are the way of life.
-I do not have any dietary restriction, I'm pretty close to vegetarian at but am definitely an omnivore. I respect other people's decisions about this and like to have discussions about food production, hunting, sustainability, ethics, composting and not letting things go to waste but NOT arguments.

My current goal is to learn more about sustainable living, building and animal care to some day have my own space to host workawayers, couchsurfers, woofers, naturists and people for workshops. I enjoy reading a lot about and learning from; history, non-violent communication, not getting angry or absorbing other people's energy in a conflict or difficult situation. Basically I like to keep things very humble though I don't mind sharing my own stories and am apparently not able to tell a short story at all. I also practice naturism when safe to do so and am not into shame, body shaming, sexism, racism or homophobia.
Truly I like to be entertaining when appreciated, and do what I can to help other people feel good about themselves personally and or, what they are doing in their lives and goals.

I can also provide help in other areas such as tourism management, gardening/ landscaping and more creative projects. I have a lot of experience in this as a world traveller for the last 10 years. I also speak French fluently, I have a basic communication level of Russian and am learning Spanish. (more below)

Currently digital nomading, working in design creating, practical and durable leather goods and jewelry with local or small scale and sustainably sourced antler, tooth and bone. Yes I take this on the road with me :) trying to improve my mobile workshop that fits in a back pack. (more below)

Whatsapp is the best way to get in touch with me directly. If you chose this method please use your WorkAway profile title so we both know who we're talking to!

  • Que habilidades tienes?

Experienced with both animal-animals and human animals.

Grew up in a small city in Canada, surrounded by farm land and the rocky mountains, so an understanding of the natural world and living close with animals is natural. Working with animals is among my favourite things, especially horses and goats (cheese), caring and learning about them, and horse back ridding when possible/ ethical. Previous to discovering workaway I have volunteered on farms in Russia, France, and Ireland. (detailed information about working with horses listed below)

I have worked as an English teacher in France, Czech Republic and Siberia a number of times. But as always when it comes to working with people, teaching english was only part of the job. Working in Siberia also included travelling with junior and adult students to the Lake Baikal, Lake Teletskoe and through the Altai Mountain region.

LOTS OF EXPERIENCE IN BUT CAN ALWAYS LEARN MORE:
-landscaping, gardening, using power tools such as various drills, motorized saws and sanders, building and maintaining fences, repairing and maintaining projects,
-elder care, genuine listening, knowing when is a time to give input and when is a time to shuuuuush, following directions to respect how others would like tasks done,
    -animal care
-writing and translation, tourism and handling difficult characters, singing, sewing/designing useful items and repair, teaching English
-working with natural materials such as antler, leather, tooth and bone,
-planning/leading workshops, conflict resolution, body flow/dance, self-reflection and understanding social awareness.
    -hanging-out with chickens
    -naturism/ naturist living

SOME EXPERIENCE BUT WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MORE:
    -raising fish, building ponds
-building all kinds of structures except houses, making furniture and structures out of natural materials
    -wood working and welding
-working with horses and knowing there behaviour/health
-permaculture, edible/medicinal plant knowledge /herbal and holistic remedies and how those plants grow best/ when to plant and harvest /how to prepare them
-managing food supplies, learning proportions for cooking for large groups or a few people
    -non-violent communication
-ethically preparing animals for food as well as preparing animal skins for fur or leather
    -making cheese
-yoga, the body and how it works, meditation and general self-care
    -bee keeping / apitherapy

Currently I am working with leather, antler, tooth and bone, making my own creations as well as working for music festivals in workshop planning, and event set-up/ take-down, info booth, and helping in the kitchens. You can check website or instagram with same name:

DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT EXPERIENCE WITH HORSES

My first WorkAway experience was spent working with horses in Uruguay for a month. We trained with hollistic and natural riding techniques, how to train the horses to work with us, but most of all training ourselves to work with them! I can send the direct phone number of my host there if you need a bigger reference as he lives pretty off grid, not a big computer person.

Basically in Uruguay it was a very isolated area with limited internet, in the middle of the countryside with no shops or anything around we went for plant based food supplies once a week and shared 3 meals a day. We woke up at 7am, sometimes 5.30am depending on the needs of the day. We worked with the horses, helped the neighbour with his horses and moving cattle by horse back etc. as well as maintenance on the farm, to the buildings, fixing fences working in the garden, making natural barricades around garden to keep out animals and taking care fo the dogs and cats, checking if any animals were ever sick or injured.

At one point in Uruguay I was left alone for 5 days to manage the place but luckily had the help of a young volunteer to take care of our farm and the neighbour's farm. I learned much about equine behaviour as the owner was an expert with over 10 years experience, working with horses, their health, training them and training people through bodily control and communication, no metal in the mouth for the horses, not traditional saddles, just harnesses, blankets and sheep skins. We learned to work safely and efficiently with the horses.

This does NOT make me a horse expert so I have listed it below under "some experience but would like to learn more" as I can track them down, bridle and saddle them but I am not a trainer or rodeo star (getting bucked off a few ponies doesn't count). I am genuinely interested not just in improving ridding and how to behave with horse, but even more so their behaviour, evolution, anatomy, health and how they communicate to be able to one day have horses of my own.
    .
However, as you have read working with horses as well as generally working independently and in an isolated place is no problem for me. I know I could learn even more and that I'm dedicated worker not afraid to share ideas but not afraid to follow directions.
