Hello! I am fairly new to being a workawayer (only one stay so far!) but I can’t wait to find more opportunities to connect with people and cultures in a more genuine way.

I did some long-term travelling after I finished my degree and always said I wanted to return to the road again. I started working in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist in 2017 and I blinked and 6 years have gone by. I had a recent break up and two house purchases fall through so I decided to use these unfortunate events and turn them into an opportunity for myself.
I want to experience something completely different; I want to learn new skills and immerse myself in a new culture. I want to see life from a different perspective and be able to help and give back in a changed way.

I am enthusiastic, caring and helpful. I spend a lot of time with my friends and family, I find that socialising gives me energy. I am hard working, conscientious and considerate of others. I enjoy hiking, swimming, Latin dancing and yoga. I love to go paddleboarding and snorkelling whenever I get the opportunity. I would love to try paddleboard yoga at some point.

I am always happy to try new things. A recent example of this is hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc with a group of friends and completing a Via Ferrata, which was terrifying but exhilarating!

As an Occupational Therapist I have worked in several different settings; from supporting elderly people to be more independent and able to get back to living at home from being in hospital, to supporting adolescents and adults with mental health difficulties. I have excellent communication skills and am an empathetic listener. I work with people to help them identify the barriers stopping them from doing what they want, need or have to do, then support them to overcome those barriers.

I’m a problem solver at heart. I am very practical and always try to offer help. I am hardworking and motivated.

I have also worked in several catering jobs including; working in a football stadium, a museum and an outdoor food market stall. This involved restaurant style food service, one to one sales, weddings and corporate events. I learned to work under pressure and make sure I had a steady hand.

I have volunteered in St John’s Ambulance and supported young people at activity centres doing team building exercises such as raft building and making paper bridges. I loved doing this but when I went to university this is something I lost touch with.

Thanks to a family friend I was given an opportunity to work in a gardening nursery as my first job. This was a great opportunity to get my hands mucky and be in nature repotting and moving plants.

I am not the strongest of people, but I am determined, reliable and will try my best at a task.
