Hey I'm Tom,

People often talk about their passion or purpose in life. I (like many other people!) am not sure I can confidently say that there is one particular thing that I want to dedicate my life to.

I think I would rather experience many different ways of life. There are so many people in the world living in so many different places. I am constantly excited and deeply inspired by the ideas and passions of others. For this reason I think of myself in terms of a common English saying, as a "Jack of all trades, master of none (oftentimes better than a master of one)". This is what's motivated to travel and volunteer my time and energy to projects that inspire me.

Don't misunderstand me, I don't think that having a singular focus to your life is small-minded or a mistake. In fact I think that almost anything you can find that can motivate you to your core and give you a sense of deep meaning will lead to a genuinely meaningful life.

If there is one thing that inspires me more than anything else in life, it's people. I am fascinated to get to know people and understand their experiences. I am, and always have been, particularly drawn to people from cultures and backgrounds different from my own. It is exhilarating to realise how much we all have in common. Despite our apparent differences our experiences, joys, excitements, insecurities and misery is all the same.

We have so much to share and at the same time and unimaginable amount to learn from each other. Communication, openness sympathy and friendship are invaluable!

I guess this is what's motivated me to travel and throw myself wholeheartedly into the worlds of people that I would never have otherwise met.

A little bit more about me: I was born in London but I have also lived in Liverpoo for 6 years.

I studied Philosophy at University and I am still profoundly interested in the subject. I dont think there's any better way to connected woth someone than to share a philosophical conversation.

I have spent many years working in bars and restaurants and I also spent some time as a civil servant working for the British government.

These days I work as an English teacher and now I do this entirely online. I work part time as I travel and I teach learner from all over the world. I love languages and I am higjly motivated to learn as many as i can.

I think it is sad that globalisation is causing countless languages to slowly fade away while my own language becomes the preferred medium of communication around the world.

However, the ability for everyone to communicate with a common tongue is magical and therefore to be able to share a language with foreigners and open up the world to them is a true privilege and I am honoured to do it.
