Hi there! I'm Sofia, new to workaway and really excited to explore this form of travel and cultural exchange!

I'm currently between studies and would love to take some time to explore new parts of the world and tick some things off my bucket list. Besides seeing the northern lights, spending some time in beautiful Southern Spain and Morocco is right on top of my list. I'm really looking forward to meeting locals, getting to know cultural traditions and learning some new skills.

A little something about myself:
I'm 24 and I'm really passionate about sustainable lifestyles and the protection of our planet. Also I love doing yoga, spending time outdoors and playing (and writing) music. During the past years I got my Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Sciences and will move forward in the field of Public Health Nutrition with a focus on Sustainable Diets.

Even though I'm new to this platform, I did have some amazing experiences abroad in the past. Especially my three-month backpacking trip through Chile and Argentina in 2019 was incredible! It really changed my way of thinking and living. I met some truly beautiful people and had some incredible experiences along the way.

This time around, I'm not planning to be on the road as much. I'd love to stay longer in one place! That's why I've been looking for volunteering spots. I'd love to find something on a farm/finca in Malaga and in a surf camp hostel at the coast of Morocco or Portugal.

Que habilidades tienes?

My mother tongue is German, but I speak English fluently and Spanish pretty well, too. I understand more than I can speak, but I'm working on it! I also know a little French and Italian, which I learned in school. I'd love to brush up on those skills!

I have a diverse work background, primarily in catering. I've worked in restaurants, at festivals, and in bakeries, where I've learned some customer service skills. This experience has taught me how to interact with all kinds of people and handle various situations with ease.

Academically, I hold a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Science. I'm passionate about cooking and baking, especially vegetarian and vegan dishes. During my studies, I was an active member of an urban gardening club, where I gained hands-on experience in growing vegetables and herbs on our university campus (and later on my balcony). We also built several raised beds, which was a great learning opportunity for me.

In addition, I co-led the environmental department of our student council where students worked on projects and events to make the university and student life more sustainable. I learned so much, for instance in event planning, social media maintenance and project management.

In my free time, I enjoy handcrafting, such as crocheting and sewing. Also, I love making music, especially playing the guitar and singing, sometimes also writing my own songs. These hobbies allow me to be creative and clear my mind.

I'm eager to contribute and improve my skills and learn new ones while volunteering!
