Hello!

My name is Santiago, I am a forestry tecnician, but I would describe myself like some sort of professional"all-round farm hand"

I make my living working in farms, and I keep myself always in pursue of further developing my skills towards self sufficency.

I am currently living in Norway, where I have been working several farm jobs across the whole country for some years.

Country life and the outdoors are both my passion and my whole lifestyle, and I enjoy it even more when abroad and I get to meet people from all over the world. I have a strong focus in sustainability and food sovereignty.

When I travel, I love to visit places from the "inside" and live like the locals, rather than just get the tourist experience.

I have a vocational degree in forestry work and also a bachelor's in fine arts.

I have been working mainly in farms for the last 10 years, and on my free time I usually go volunteering to try out new places.

I have been employed in all sorts of operations: from a buffalo ranch, deer farm to big market gardens and orchards to steep mountain sheep farms.

I don't consider myself expert at anything but am very curious and willing to learn as much as possible. Because of that, I have gathered a very varied experience, which includes:

A lot of chainsaw work: firewood, pruning, forest fire prevention, logging and timber milling, etc.

Construction projects: from laying floors, framing and insulation, drywall, timber structures, roofing, traditional log building, adobe, strawbale building, etc. I have also built cabins, sheds, corrals, firewood shacks...

When I was in Canada, I built my own cabin out of timber and adobe and it kept me warm and snug through -25 C winters!

I like to use natural or recycled materials for construction. I am a student in the art of turning junk and scraps into useful things.

I can do basic welding, aswell as some basic masonry.

I have set up irrigation systems, also built quite a lot of fences. On the other hand I am not shy when it is time for shovelling, digging, cleaning stables...

I am into hunting for big and small game, I can slaughter and process animals for meat, tan their skins and make things out of them. I like tanning hides for craft projects. Always keeping a deep respect and love for animals and I like to use every single part of them if i can.

I can work in a team or in an autonomous way and keep myself busy.

Something to know about me is that I eat a lot! But i am not picky.

I appreciate structure and setting things very clear from the start.

During work time I give my 100% take almost no brakes and don't waste any unnecessary time. On the other hand, when it's my time off, enjoy to focus on my personal projects.

I believe that communication is key to find the right balance between work hours and free time in order for it to be a mutually beneficial deal.

i am super interested in self sufficence and sustainability, I love outdoors, wild places, have fun, good eating, meet people, work hard in a place that i feel good and enjoy life!

They are really, really generous people, helping me in everything they can, sharing their space and their things, and being always very kind to … read more me and very patient with my strugle to speak french.
I am super happy to have lived and worked with them and i have learnt a lot of new skills, from cooking recipes to building techniques. The work with Yves is great. He is a good teacher and at the same time he lets you freedom of movements once you have got the general idea, i am very thankfull for all the knowledge he has given to me, we have also laugh a lot while working.
Sego is a real druid of our times, she knows a lot about plants and their uses, traditional medicine, gardening techniques and a whole lot of very interesting stuff!
The atmosphere at the house is always good, we make a lot of jokes and spent great times. Oh, and the food it's been probably the BEST of my life, they don't play with the food! it is always great products and super tasty recipes, after that it is hard to go back to a normal life!!

I can just be thankfull to them for all the good times, the talks, the food, the good mood, the exchange of ideas and a lot of things that i will remember for very long. A big hug to Sego, Yves, Robin (humans) and also to Leo (cat) Flipper (dog), Zorro (horse) and all my chickens! I am sure i will see you again!

Je suis resté ici pendant un peu plus d’un mois et c’est merveilleux !. Sego et Yves sont des hôtes très sympas, je me suis senti comme chez moi. J'ai totalement fait partie de la famille.
Ce sont vraiment des gens très généreux, ils m'aident dans tout ce qu'ils peuvent, rétrécissent leur espace et leurs affaires, et sont toujours très gentils avec moi et très patients avec mon combat pour parler français.
Je suis super content d'avoir vécu et travaillé avec eux et j'ai appris beaucoup de nouvelles compétences, allant des recettes de cuisine aux techniques de construction. Le travail avec Yves est génial. C'est un bon professeur et en même temps, il vous laisse la liberté de mouvement une fois que vous avez eu l'idée générale, je suis très reconnaissant pour toutes les connaissances qu'il m'a données, nous avons également beaucoup ri en travaillant.
Sego est un véritable druide de notre époque, elle en sait beaucoup sur les plantes et leurs utilisations, la médecine traditionnelle, les techniques de jardinage et plein d'autres choses très intéressantes!
L'atmosphère à la maison est toujours bonne, on fait beaucoup de blagues et on passe de bons moments. Oh, et la nourriture c'est probablement le MEILLEUR de ma vie, ils ne jouent pas avec la nourriture! ce sont toujours d'excellents produits et des recettes super savoureuses, après quoi il est difficile de revenir à une vie normale !!

Je peux juste leur être reconnaissant pour tous les bons moments, les discussions, la nourriture, la bonne humeur, l'échange d'idées et beaucoup de choses dont je me souviendrai très longtemps. Un gros câlin à Sego, Yves, Robin (humains) et aussi à Leo (chat) Flipper (chien), Zorro (cheval) et tous mes poules! Je suis sûr de te revoir!
