Hi! My name is Mizuki, and I’m from Japan. I’m curious, open-minded, and always excited to experience something new.

After working for six years in local government in Japan, I decided to explore different cultures and ways of life through Workaway.

I’m especially interested in Finnish culture, education, and everyday life. I’m currently in Finland, staying with a Finnish host family, and I’d love to continue experiencing local life beyond being a tourist.

I’m often described as positive, polite, reliable, and eager to learn. I enjoy connecting with people and sharing small, meaningful moments together. 😊

Having Mizuki stay with us was a genuinely wonderful experience. From the very beginning, she was open-minded, warm, curious and easy to connect with. Conversations with her came naturally, whether we were talking about everyday life, education, culture or the differences and similarities between Finland and Japan.

She took part in everyday life with a wonderfully positive attitude and was happy to help with all kinds of things around the house. During her stay she cooked, ironed and helped with laundry, vacuumed, stacked firewood, dried apples and joined in with whatever needed doing. She worked carefully and independently, and it was always easy and relaxed to do things together.

At the same time, this Workaway experience was about much more than getting things done. Mizuki brought a lovely lightness, curiosity and positive energy into our home. She was interested in the life around her and approached new experiences with an open mind – from Finnish sauna and lake life to cooking, visiting schools and simply sharing our everyday routines.

One of the things we especially appreciated was how naturally Mizuki became part of our family life. She didn’t feel like a visitor for long – she simply became part of the family. Even our cats absolutely adored her, which is a recommendation in itself!

We shared many memorable moments: cooking and eating together, movie nights, wonderful conversations over tea, little trips and ordinary everyday activities. Mizuki even made apple jam for the first time in her life – and it turned out absolutely delicious.

Seeing Mizuki’s own reflections on her time with us also made us realise how much these seemingly ordinary moments meant to her: shared meals, sauna, the lake, the cats, school visits, learning new things and simply being included in everyday family life. That meant a lot to us too.

For us, the best Workaway experiences are not really about “hosts” and “Workawayers”. They are about people sharing their lives, learning from each other and creating something together. With Mizuki, that is exactly what happened. We learned from her just as she learned from us.

We feel very lucky that our paths crossed. Mizuki left our home as a friend, and there will always be a place for her at our table – and, judging by the cats, probably on our sofa too.

We wholeheartedly recommend Mizuki to future hosts. She is kind, thoughtful, reliable, curious, hard-working and wonderful company. Whoever welcomes her into their home is in for something special.
