Hi, I’m Karel!

I’m from Belgium and these days I’m based in Stockholm, where I work as a carpenter and furniture maker. I ended up in Sweden after a few very inspiring Workaway experiences where I met my wife and decided to stay. Here we are, already about 8 years later, and getting hungry for a next adventure.

I enjoy practical, hands-on work—whether it’s building, repairing, gardening or woodwork. I’m happiest when I can be useful, learn something new, and share skills along the way. With a background in both design and woodworking, I love creating things that are functional and beautiful, but I also enjoy the simplicity of everyday tasks like chopping wood or helping out in the kitchen. Obviously it would be fun to help out with any languages that you might need help with. I feel pretty comfortable with Swedish and my native language Flemish (Belgian Dutch).

Personality-wise, I’m calm and easygoing, always up for an interesting conversation or to share ideas. I value authenticity, nature, and meeting people from different cultures. Traveling is for me not just about moving around, but about exchanging experiences and learning from others.
This time around, I’d love to learn more about eco-projects, running your own off-grid farm or living out in the nature as I'm planning to get started on a project of my own.

I stayed with Tonje, Frimand and Senja for two weeks in June on their farm. They are a very warm and welcoming family letting me feel at home right from the start.
