I'm Inka. I'm 41 years old. After finishing school I went to England as an Au Pair for ten month. I looked after two children at the age of 3 and 5 years. When I came back to Germany I started my training as a carpenter. Having finished my training I began my studies as a social worker. During my studies I've been working as a waitress and in an elementary school and teaching mathematics to young grown ups without a job. After getting my diploma I continued working with young grownups. 2017/18 I mainly helped people with psychological illnesses.
Since my contract was limited from the beginning I was thinking about the things I'd like to do. Since I've been to Iceland twice and really loved this island, I really wanted to spent a year in Iceland.
My love for Iceland hasn't lessoned. I'm in Iceland for four years now and still don't want to leave.
The last four years I've been doing different things
I've been preparing beds for guest, helping with gardening, milking cows, shoveling shit, feeding cows, sheep, and horses, helping lambs being born, chopping firewood, plucking weeds, walking dogs, building a terasse, pitting turf on a summerhouse roof, mowing the lawn, taking care of kids and cleaning the house, helping a little with haymaking
In my free time in Germany I three times volunteered for an ecological project to recultivate wetlands .
All my life I've been living in a shared flat. So I'm really easy going on living together with other people. Nontheless I'd like a bedroom for myself to have space just for me.

I'm a trained carpenter, so I'm quite skilled in manual jobs. I'm really good with people. I'm hard working, interrested in ecological projects. I like to be out in the nature and I love animals of all kinds. I love to read. I'm uncomplicated and love to do and learn new things. I really like to learn icelandic but I'm not the best in learning languages, so please be patient with me. I'm learning to play Ocarina andguitar. I love to take pictures, mostly of nature, but sometimes of people as well.

  vegetarian, but i really don't mind other people eating meat. I'm a really easy going vegetarian and absolutely able of feeding myself. You don't have to cook specially for me. So don't worry.

The Westfjords are a remote part of Iceland and Raudursandur in particular. It is an amazingly beautiful place with a little farm and unbelievably friendly people and animals.
When your're working with cows you have to milk them in the morning and in the evening. It is partly a very physical work but very rewarding because the fresh milk is… read more amazingly good and to get to know the animals (cows, hens, sometimes sheep, dog and cat) is a lot of fun. Seeing calves being born and taking care of them is simply a wonderful experience.
The farmer is Steini. He doesn't really speak English but understands a little. He is a really nice and funny guy who likes to laugh and is always willing to help if there's a problem. He is a little shy, especially in the beginning but you can have a lot of fun with him. Erla, his niece, is living in Reykjavik but organizes a lot of things for the farm. She is one of the most welcoming and appreciative people I ever met.

The scenery around the farm is magnificent. You have the red sand beach in 20 minutes walking distance, the view all the way to Látrabjarg and Snæfellsjökull if you have clear skies. If you're lucky or you are very patient you have a chance of seeing arctic foxes.

The weather in Iceland can change very quickly and be very challenging from bitterly cold, to lots of snow, to really misty to strong winds. You never know what you get. But you can have calm winds and beautiful sunshine, too.
The seasons in iceland differ a lot. Especially from the amount of daylight that you get. In summer the sun almost never sets and in the darkest days you'll have the sunrise about 12 and it'll set again around 3 pm. (Of course it is not dark until 12 o'clock, but still...) But the winter times can also bring you beautiful northern lights.

Patreksfjörður is the nearest "town". It is a 40 minutes drive and you'll find one small supermarket, a pharmacy, a post office and a swimming pool.

So after all this information I can only say:
For me this farm was one of the best places to go to. I love to be in far off places where you don't run across a lot of people. I can happily spent my free time just reading, baking, going for walks, watching nature, being around animals, taking pictures, knitting, watching movies. I felt welcome and appreciated the entire time. It was dificult to leave the people, the animals and the tranquility and beauty of this place.
This place simply is beautiful, welcoming and peaceful.

I‘ve been staying at Annikas and Güllis for two months and enjoyed it very much.
