Hello, to whom it may concern,

We are two creative and curious individuals from Denmark – Selma and Iben – who are planning to travel through Europe by train this summer. One of our big driving forces is the desire to connect with people from different cultures, step into unfamiliar ways of living, and immerse ourselves in environments that challenge our worldview.

We’ve been friends for two and a half years, having met while attending art school, where we also lived together at a collegium. Living intensivly together not only sparked our friendship but also deepened our shared interest in creativity, cultural exchange, and meaningful human connection.

We signed up for Workaway because we believe it offers a unique way to experience the world — not just as tourists, but as participants. We’re excited about contributing our energy, time, and presence to the people we meet, while also learning from them. We hope to exchange skills, stories, and values in a way that leaves everyone a little richer.

We approach every task with care, patience, and a positive attitude. Whether it’s helping out around the house, assisting with daily routines, or engaging in more creative or people-oriented work, we do so with responsibility and enthusiasm. We’re adaptable, mindful, and genuinely invested in the well-being of those around us.

A little more about us individually:

I (Selma) am currently studying a linguistic profile in high school, where I focus on English, German, and Spanish. I dream of mastering these languages to better connect with different cultures across the globe. Last summer, I attended a Spanish language school in Barcelona and lived with a host family – an experience that truly broadened my perspective and left me eager for more.

I (Iben) also attend high school, with a focus on music and English. I’ve had the opportunity to live with a Vietnamese family in Vietnam and have done charity work in Kenya. These experiences taught me a lot about cultural differences, resilience, and compassion. I’m someone who prioritizes the well-being of others and isn’t afraid to dive into unfamiliar tasks — even if it means failing a few times along the way.

We both carry with us a sense of wonder, a desire to grow, and a willingness to give. Through our travels and Workaway experiences, we hope not only to see new places but to be shaped by the people we meet.

If learning a language could be possible while being at the workaway, we would be more than happy - especially concerning Spanish, French or German as those languages are our top priority. We want and expect to be fluent in those languages someday, so the sooner we practice the better :-) Both of us are fluent in English and we would be happy to help teaching and practicing the basics with whomever could be interested. As we know the basics in many languages such as German, French, Spanish, Danish and a bit of norwegian and swedish we have great opportunity to offer assistance with language learning.

I (Iben) play a bit of saxophone, bass, and drums.
I (Selma) know the basics of piano and played the violin for four years.

Other than that, we may not have many practical skills just yet – but we are quick learners and always eager to take on new challenges. We approach unfamiliar tasks with curiosity and enthusiasm, and we’re not afraid to learn by doing.

We both have a deep appreciation for all kinds of art – both creating it ourselves and experiencing the work of others. Working with our hands allows us to slow down, find a sense of peace, and connect more deeply with ourselves. We also love being in nature and going for walks. Additionally, we are both passionate knitters and share a love for slow fashion and sustainable creativity.

I (Iben) enjoy sewing and am currently working on a 50s-inspired outfit for my wardrobe. I highly value the concept of slow fashion, fixing instead of throwing away and using recycled fabrics rather than bying new. And I am rather keen behind a sewing machine so would be more than happy to help with hemming your pants or fixing a broken seam. I also enjoy cooking and baking, even though I am not a Michelin chef but I'll certainly do my best. When making and creating something I enjoy the process just as much as I love the product. If find it quite meditative to use my hands and I seek tranquility in most of the things I do. Moving my body through dance and yoga is another thing I value deeply.

I (Selma) work with ceramics, especially wheel-throwing, which I find incredibly meditative. I also enjoy drawing, singing, and dancing. For the past few years, I’ve been involved in acting, which has become a big part of my life. I love the freedom it gives me to explore emotions, stories, and characters in a playful way. I’ve participated in several stage productions and even acted in a feature film. I come from a large family with three younger siblings aged 15, 12, and 7, so I’m very used to being around children of all ages. I also have a dog and am very comfortable with animals.
We are both pet lovers and always enjoy spending time with animals.

  No, we don’t have any specific dietary restrictions, but we do try to eat as sustainably as possible. That said, we’re flexible and happy to adapt to whatever is available – no worries at all.
