Hello! Hola!

My name is Clara and I am a 23 year old Angelino (from Los Angeles, CA, USA) embarking on a solo travel journey through South America. I am taking a gap year to travel, learn, and be a free-moving human as I figure out what I want to do with my life! I am currently in Colombia and planning to travel to Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, and Chile (though my plans are very flexible).

Some of my goals for this trip include:

1. Working on speaking Spanish ( I recently spent 3 weeks at a language school in Guatemala). I can speak at an intermediate level, but I would love to be able to continue practicing and learning in my Workaway placement.
2. Engage in cultural exchange and deeply connect with the culture of the country/region I am visiting.
3. Learn new skills, meet new people, try new things!
4. Discover new ways to live a sustainable and authentic life.

More about me: I graduated from college with a degree in environmental studies, where I became interested in food justice and sustainability. After graduating, I have been working in the anti-hunger field with local non-profits and national non-profits around the US. I care deeply about food justice and creating sustainable food systems.

I love to make art! I mainly paint (murals, watercolors, acrylics, all types!), but also love to doodle, sew, embroider, etc. Making art is an important part of my life, and finding creativity in the things I do brings me joy! I also LOVE to engage in diy projects such as natural fabric dying, woodworking, and weaving. I will be excited about any project that involves working with my hands!

One of my greatest joys in spending time in nature. I love to hike, garden, learn about plants and animals, and lay in the sun. I would like to be able to spend least part of my day outside.

Overall, I am looking for a place where I can connect and meet new people. I am happy to spend time on my own, but I would also love to be a part of your community and activities on occasion. My favorite part of traveling is being able to connect to those I would otherwise would not be able to meet and share stories, wisdom, music, food, and laughs!

I have experience working on organic farms and homestays and enjoy working with plants, compost, seeds, and animals! I also have experience working in customer service, building educational programs, leading tours, and cooking for large groups of people. I am an artist and would love to share my artist passions with you through painting murals or creating other visuals for your project! Overall, I am a fast learner and am always looking for opportunities to learn new skills and grow.

I love to listen to music, play games (card games especially), cook, and dance with others! Other hobbies include reading, yoga, painting, biking, hiking, and singing!
