What a fun and loving family! I stayed for 7 weeks with my friend and we had a such great time. The work was mainly normal household chores but we also did some maintenance in the garden and helped sorting out the basement and did build a new floor together with Stefan. The family has great Humor and there is always something going on. They are very flexible so we had the opportunity to do quite a few trips to Reykjavik, go to the local Swimmingpool, went on a lot of long walks and thanks to Silvia, had the chance to experience an icelandic sauna. Besides their busy schedules they were always happy to to share travel tips and we will definitely „go up that mountain and look down“. ;) Thanks again Carolina

thank you anne and gilberto! we had a nice stay at their finca, doing some small construction projects. anne had a range of tasks and gave us the freedom to choose which ones we wanted to do. we had tons of great food cooked by anne or the coffee shop on the property which was really nice. views were amazing, animals everywhere and some great socializing with anne and gilberto and their daughter, idalia. overall, we enjoyed this experience! ps, we hope the kittens are doing well

Inga was a volunteer during a difficult moment at home due to the frequent and sometimes prolonged power outages my country is experiencing due to global and local issues. My gratitude for her understanding and for always being ready to take on art projects or cooking and sharing meals. Inga related well with Delci and Alexis here at home. It was perfect: Suse is such a lovely person, warm and friendly, with plenty of stories to share from her life and travels. The place is exceptionally beautiful, sea nearby, pademelons everywhere, gum trees, a whole new flora and fauna to me. As for the work, it wasn't too much, but useful: making and planting posts, filling up garden beds with soil, and protecting plants with wire. And then the trips! Thanks to Suse again, who very generously took me in her car, I could do some of the best one-day bushwalking of Tasmania: Creekton Falls, the Hippo and the South East Cape, the Grove of Giants etc etc. She really allowed free expression to my desire to roam. The last mention goes to the accommodation, the old tractor shack, nicely renovated and very snug, when the fire is crackling in the stove and the chill of the winter kept out. Good memories. How many times, around six pm, dark and the sky had more stars than I'd ever seen, I walked to Suse's place, a few pademelons hopping in the night, I opened the door, and bright inside, dinner ready! Thanks Suse, and so long!

Alyssa and Curtis were absolutely amazing hosts! As this was my first time arriving in Canada, they went above and beyond to help me navigate the transition and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. They opened their home to us with kindness, generosity, and genuine care. The children were wonderful and so much fun to spend time with. Throughout our stay, Alyssa and Curtis communicated clearly, were respectful of our time, and always made sure we felt comfortable. We never felt overworked and truly appreciated the balance they created between helping out and enjoying the experience. We are incredibly grateful for their support, hospitality, and friendship. We couldn’t recommend them highly enough to any future Workawayers!

I spent 20 days volunteering at the compound, and it was an unforgettable experience, truly eye-opening! The compound is beautiful and a great place to learn about music, languages (Pulaar, Wolof, Mandinga, French, and English), local plants and their uses, and much more. I'm sure the exchange of knowledge will become even better once the library is ready! :) At first, the place felt pretty crazy, full of surprises all the time. Once you enter the compound, time seems to stop existing. Any activity can happen and plans can change at any moment. All kinds of people come to visit every day, from kids to elders. Some come just for an ataya, while others stay for days. Sometimes what happens in the compound is so absurd that it becomes hilarious. It is truly a wonderful and super welcoming community. You will meet many inspiring people (Safi, Adama, Ablai, and Talata are the firsts). The tasks are very easy (except building djembes ;D). During the first few days, I felt like I was "working" all the time, but after a while it felt like I was hardly working at all. Every activity is simply a small contribution to a "normal" day. Rides in the "motocar" can  be an exciting part. If the plan is to go into town and buy breakfast, you might come back 3 hours later with 10 new plants, a battery for a motorbike, or an inspiring elder Rastafarian who wants to commission a drum and ends up staying at the compound for five days, spending every night chanting and drumming around the fire until sunrise ahahaha. Every night there is a fire where drumming, music, conversations, and "fire speeches" often take place. Some speeches made me think deeply; others simply left me confused ahah Either way, it's a great way to spend the evening and night. Safi is an excellent cook. She prepares delicious meals and often cooks for many people, so it can take some time. You could end up eating at any hour! "Motocar adventures" also have a big influence on meal times ahaha. Safi is a truly fantastic host. She is very funny, very supportive and makes you feel like a friend from the very beginning. Thank you so much! Adama is also an amazing person and teacher. Despite all the daily missions he had to take care of, he taught me many traditional rhythms and how to skin a djembé. Thank you very much!  He also tried to teach me how to drive the motocar, but that was definitely not one of my talents ahah and many other things. Adama has endless energy, keeping up with him is impossible, don't even try! Sometimes, with everything happening in the compound, it can feel a bit overwhelming. Escaping to the beach is a great solution :) Talata is the star. I can't really describe her in words. She will steal everything you have, your heart included ahaha She is what makes the stay so special. A final tip: if you're planning to build your own djembé, this is a great place to do it. However, make sure to bring good-quality rope from Europe, and at every step ask Adama and Ablai to check that you've done it correctly. Otherwise, you might lose a lot of time and find yourself on an odyssey that ends with a trip to Dakar to ask someone else to finish it! I'd also recommend bringing some guitar strings. :) I hope to come back one day,  to learn some drumming "full power mode", help with the library and meet again all the wonderful people. This host is excellent! Everyone from the cleaners to the kitchen staff are extremely kind and very easy to work with. The owner emir is a very good person and he is always looking out for the wellbeing of the staff and volunteers. As for the work itself it is very laid back and emir is always around if you are ever unsure what to do. It is also flexible hours and leaves a lot of free time to explore the country! The acomadation is also very good it has a kitchen shower and everything you would need. I cannot recommend this place enough Definetly check it out! I am happy to have been apart of the whole family and it's something I won't forget anytime soon.

I had a great experience volunteering here! I volunteered for 6 weeks from the beginning of March to mid-April helping mostly with the charging and showers projects. While volunteering, I felt I learned a lot about the situation in Dunkirk, and I felt that the organization does a good job at improving the situation for the people living in the camps. The coordinators prioritized the safety and well-being of the volunteers, and everyone felt approachable if I ever had a question or needed something. The social environment in the warehouse was also great, and I enjoyed getting to know the other volunteers while I was there.

Kelsey was an an amazing volunteer and, skilled in all areas, wether it was vineyard, kitchen , cabin cleaning, computer work, business strategy, puppy training, all tasks were executed with skill and enthusiasm. We were sorry to say goodbye and wopuld be delighted if one day she returns! Thank you Kelsey!

A wonderful person and a great volunteer, Lea is multi skilled and threw herself into everything going on for the duration of her stay. She was up for learing new skills including tiling, and I can thoroughly recommend her for any position in any community.

I really enjoyed my stay and it was an awesome experience. From the day I arrived, I felt welcomed and Sylvía and Stéfan made me feel at home right away. The work was quite easy to do, it was basically cleaning, tidying up and doing laundry. We also helped out with organizing the basement and doing some gardening. The schedule was really flexible and relaxed. We usually just worked for a couple of hours a day, so there was lots of free time to enjoy in Akranes and go on some day trips. Family life with five kids is sometimes a little bit chaotic, but it was always a lot of fun and the kids are really lovely. This Workaway was one of the best experiences I had during my time in Iceland and I´m really happy I stayed there. We joked a lot and there was always something to laugh about. It feels amazing to know that I now have a place in Iceland where I can always return to.

This was my first workaway experience and I’m so happy I did it. I stayed for a month in this beautiful farm, the first week with Sabine, then 10 days alone while they were away on a trip, then another week with Sabine and Yvon. Sabine was very welcoming since I got there whilst also leaving plenty of personal space. I stayed in a room with my own bathroom and kitchen and they provided anything I needed. At first I was a bit hesitant about staying there alone for 10 days but it ended up being one of my favorite parts! All of the animals are adorable and very friendly, and especially the dog Sara makes it impossible to feel lonely. When Sabine and Yvon were there, the work I did was mainly gardening, painting a wooden shed, cleaning out the sheep’s stable and helping to put up the tent. The work was mostly independent but they explained everything I didn’t know and they were always around if I had questions. It was hard work at times but I also had enough time to relax afterwards and it was very rewarding to be in such a beautiful place with such beautiful animals and people. In my free time I had many chats with Sabine who was very supportive whenever I was feeling down, and she even shared some knowledge about spirituality and tea herbs. I sadly didn't have as much time with Yvon but she's very funny and interesting to talk to. They both were super kind and open with me and I'm very grateful for this experience and I hope we can meet again soon! <3

Kathy was a wonderful volunteer. She was very easy to get along with, very open, and very cheerful. I will never forget her laughter and good humor. She did everything she could to help us with our disabled daughter, but she has many other skills. Kathy is very energetic and athletic. We already miss Kathy very much; the house is a little sad without her. We hope to see you again very soon 😘

We only stayed here for a few days, but from the moment we arrived we felt genuinely welcomed. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and inviting, and everyone we interacted with was kind, open, and interesting. We had some beautiful conversations and meaningful exchanges, and we are especially grateful for the contacts, suggestions, and advice they shared with us for the rest of our journey. For our family, it perhaps wasn't the perfect match at that particular moment. We travel with a young child, and during our stay most of the children present were considerably older, so there were fewer opportunities for our daughter to connect and socialize. This is simply a matter of timing and circumstances, not a criticism of the project in any way. The place itself is beautiful, welcoming, and full of potential. As with many community-based projects, things sometimes move at their own pace, and we believe it is important for prospective volunteers to communicate openly beforehand about expectations, needs, and the type of experience they are looking for. Taking the time to do so will help everyone understand whether the project is the right fit for both sides. Overall, we are grateful for the time we spent there, for the generosity we received, and for the people we had the chance to meet along the way. We wish the project and everyone involved all the best for the future.

Nik is a calm and attentive person. He acts deliberately and thinks through solutions independently. He uses resources conscientiously—a quality I greatly appreciate. He is organized and a pleasant person whom it is easy to trust. I would recommend Nik to anyone.

Cicilia is the most wonderful workawayer I have ever hosted! She has a soft and strong personality, is charming, both serious and enjoying games, is deeply involved in the tasks that she insists in finishing, and is quite able to take care of herself in free time. Among all the nice workawayers that I have had the chance to meet and host, I never met such maturity in such a young girl. I am sure that she will become a marvellous adult woman. We are grateful Stephan and me for the help that she gave us in the various tasks in which we were involved, but more than that we are grateful to have had the opportunity to know her! We can only highly recommend her to any host, and wish her the very best in life.

This place, these people, and the "egregora" that naturally forms when everyone lives and works together here are very difficult to explain. It's something that must be experienced rather than described. We felt a strong sense of belonging, kindness, and genuine human connection throughout our stay. This is also a project that is still in its early stages. Anyone who comes here should arrive with a genuine willingness to contribute, to share their energy, skills, and time. At the same time, be aware that you will most likely receive far more than you give. What we would like to emphasize is that these people deserve support. They are building something that feels genuinely sacred and important. This dream has only just been born, yet it is already guided by a clear and inspiring vision. Their vision may seem utopian to some, but it is rooted in values that can truly make the world a better place: community, respect, cooperation, connection with nature, and a sincere desire to create a different way of living together. We sincerely hope they find the people who will help this dream grow and flourish. One last thing is important to understand: children are at the heart of this project. The rhythm of daily life, the priorities, and many of the decisions revolve around their well-being and growth. Because of this, a certain level of emotional maturity and relational awareness is essential. This is not a typical Workaway experience. It is not a place to simply pass through, nor a place for unmanaged conflict, negativity, or drama. It is a space that asks for presence, respect, and genuine care for others. Come only if you feel a sincere calling toward what is being created here, and if you truly believe you can contribute with a positive attitude, an open heart, and love. If you do, you may find that this experience touches you far more deeply than you expected. On a personal level, we left feeling deeply connected to this place and to the people who call it home. What began as a Workaway experience quickly became something much more meaningful. We feel that we have found true friends here, and in many ways, a family. Because of that, everything we have written comes from a place of genuine care and affection. We care deeply about this project, the people behind it, and the beautiful vision they are bringing into the world. We are profoundly grateful for the time we shared together and hope our paths will continue to cross in the years to come.

Anya stayed at our house for three weeks. She was very cheerful, and our days were lively. She was interested in Japanese culture and actively used simple Japanese to greet people. Her main tasks included mowing the lawn, planting seedlings, and repotting plants in planters.

Throughout his stay, Ben was respectful and a pleasure to be around. He easily integrated into the household and adapted to the pace and various tasks. He participated in all the gardening work assigned to him, particularly the meticulous weeding of the flowerbeds, patiently and consistently removing weeds. He was always ready to help when needed, even when it required more time or attention, remaining willing and doing his best to contribute. Ben is a welcoming person who demonstrated a good capacity for adaptation and always maintained a positive and cooperative attitude. His stay was pleasant and without any particular difficulties. I remember him as a sincere, kind, and helpful person.

Tim showed up in times of crisis and saved the day! Not only with his skills but also with his calm and steady presence. What we read in his review from 10 years ago still stands - he is committed and independent in work, proactive, and gets things done. What I enjoyed most in working with Tim is that he is a quick and creative thinker. 6 days went quickly in a friendly and easygoing vibe, just enough to scratch the surface of his charismatic personality with many interests and extensive knowledge. Most importantly, Tim is a warm, kind, and genuinely helpful person—someone you can rely on when it counts. Wishing him the best of luck!
