We are a retreat centre on three acres of land in the rainforest of Dominica! We host groups of people interested in alternative ways of living. Yoga and Meditation retreats, university student groups, volunteer and adventure programs, Plant Medicine workshops are among the many different types of progressive groups we work with. Our Cottage is also rented out regularly . We have a large plateau of land in the mountains, a river, waterfall and two ponds, next to the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We also have a large swimming pool, many fruit trees and an enthnobotanical garden. We are always working on small building projects and gardening projects on the property, including constructing decks, pathways, planting vegetables and fruit trees, composting, landscaping and more.

The property is off-grid powered by micro-hydro and solar energy. We can sleep up to 15 people comfortably between the cottage and tent cabins, all have electricity and comfortable beds.

Dominica is recovering from a Category 5 Hurricane Maria which devastated the island in September 2017. Although we were spared the worst of the devastation - our main buildings survived with roofs on, we sustained a lot of tree loss and damage. We reopened our guest cottage and retreats in December 2017. We still have lots of gardening and rebuilding of smaller structures and pathways to put back in place what was damaged. We are also expanding our facilities to accommodate more groups.

We are a family of three who have lived all over the world and the last several years in Dominica. We are Dominican/Canadian. Our interests are in living close to the land, off-grid sustainable energy production, video production and alternatives to the current materialist economic order. We love hosting guests from all over the world and work with yoga instructors, artists, teachers and creative people to host retreats on the property from early winter to spring. We also work closely with the local Farmers group in the nearby village of Cochrane. We undertake volunteer work within our community and with various organizations around the island. We are also video producers.

We are very chill and open to new ideas and ways of living. You can learn about living-off grid, tropical construction techniques, organic gardening and composting and also learn about the many psychoactive and medicinal plants on our land.

We specialise in Yoga & Meditation, Plant Medicine, Renewable Energy and Alternative Living

We are always working on small building projects and gardening projects on the property, including constructing decks, pathways, planting vegetables and fruit trees, composting, landscaping and more. We also need help with regular cleaning of the cottage and retreat spaces.

If you are interested in alternative living, gardening and building then we could use your help. You would be involved in gardening and building of new structures for the retreat centre. There are also daily chores of cooking and clean up, which are expected to be shared in this cooperative living environment.

You would be staying in a very comfortable Tent Cabin with electricity, next to a stream surrounded by forest. The tent cabins are on covered wood decks and have a small porch with a hammock or sling chairs. Mosquitos are usually not an issue as we live in the mountains and there is almost always a constant cool breeze. Also, the tent cabins have screened windows and zippered doors. They are large enough to stand up in and move around comfortably. The bed is a queen-sized raised bed. Most meals we will have together in the main house on the veranda. It works be best if we all share in the cooking and cleanup.

Dominica is a beautiful rainforest island in the Caribbean. Although it suffered considerable devastation from Hurricane Maria in September 2018, the island is well on its way to recovering, especially the natural environment. Much of the physical infrastructure such as roads, bridges and buildings will take longer to fully restore and rebuild. Most roads have been cleared on the island and it is safe to move around. Still, road surfaces are generally rough and there are many potholes and damage to road edges so you must drive carefully. Many of the hiking trails still need to be cleared, yet some of the most popular trails and sites have already reopened, so there is still lots to explore.

As we live in the mountains, public transportation to the capital town of Roseau is infrequent. Hitch-hiking is common and generally safe throughout the island. We make at least one or two trips to Roseau, the capital every week. We are a short 5 minute walk to the village of Cochrane (400 residents) where there are dry goods shops and small bars / rum shops, churches, a playing field, community centre and health centre. Cochrane is a farming community, and most families have farms or back-yard vegetable gardens.

Please look it up! We are in the heart of the island yet still close to Roseau. You can walk into the National Park from our property (about a 25 minute walk to the start of the popular Middleham Falls trail) and swim in the rivers all around our property. We are also a 25 minute walk to a large river and more waterfalls.

We have strong and reliable cell service on the property. Although we do not have wireless internet, you can purchase a local data plan to go online here on the property.
