LIVING ON SAILBOATS IN ARCTIC WATERS, CLEANING BEACHES
Since 2017, we have removed more than 1700 tons of plastic pollution from the Norwegian coastline.

Our teams are mobile, and we stay in the middle of the most polluted areas, doing cleanups 4-5 days a week.

Although based on volunteering, our methodology for beach cleaning is professional with high-tech tools and specially developed technology - and we use fast and rugged workboats that can take us anywhere, anytime, in almost any weather.

For most of our volunteers, living on sailboats and sailing is an important part of the adventure. Still, for many, the feeling of doing something practical to save the oceans is the main motivation to join - and that is the type of volunteers we are looking for, who will sacrifice a lot to do something good for the planet.

Our boats are sailing around most of the Norwegian coastline, from Stavanger to Kirkenes, from March until the end of November, but we also have some crews in the northern arctic part of Norway that periodically in cabins.

We also do science and awareness expeditions, crossing the ocean to Iceland, Greenland or just a short visit at the Faroes, Shetland or down the British Islands.

The beach cleaning is an adventure by itself, going out with the workboats on rough seas to vast islands, dining outside, making stick bread on the bonfire, and filling up tons of marine litter to bring back to the mainland for sorting and recycling.

If you join our crew, you will experience the most beautiful, vast, and extreme nature in Norway, and you will be taking part in the important job we do to clean beaches and tell the world about marine litter, spreading knowledge and awareness. Producing content for social media is an important part of our volunteer crew members' work.

You will learn about sailing and how to be safe at sea, and you will most likely get insight into the fishery- and fish-farming industries, as we often meet them and sometimes visit them at their facilities! You will also join interesting discussions and workshops with others who care about the environment, the oceans, and all the life around us.

In your spare time, you may go hiking in the mountains, free diving, stand-up paddling, and even fishing, or other activities in the harbors we visit, often interesting tiny communities that welcome us thankfully for our job. Knitting and sometimes other types of handcrafting have also become popular among our volunteers!

    WARNING!
The job is physically demanding, and we don't recommend joining if you have illnesses or physical limitations, nor if you have no experience in hiking in the terrain.

Travelers will experience the most beautiful nature of Norway, probably the most spectacular coastline in the world, doing important work saving the oceans from plastic litter. You will learn about Norwegian culture, history and how Norwegian society looks at sustainability.

You will also learn a lot about sustainability and environmental issues, where they come from, how to stop them, and not the least environmental politics, as we often discuss and do workshops about these topics.

And, hopefully, you will make some new friends and stories for life:-)

Former volunteers are meeting worldwide, and we have a Facebook group where we post info and updates about arrangements and events. In 2024, a big reunion for former volunteers will be at the Træna Festival in Northern Norway.

    Ayuda

We need help on our sailboats and with cleaning beaches for marine litter. No experience is needed. You may also take part in daily doings on the boats, like cooking, cleaning, and other maintenance, and of course, learn to sail.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

You will live in a sailboat with 3-8 other volunteers and the boat's captain. Sometimes, we do small expeditions where we stay in sea houses or tents for a few days. Some times we stay in cabins if the sailboats are unavailable for service and maintenance.

We match double cabins with persons of the same gender and age, and you may contact your roommate before arrival.

Meals are served 3-4 times a day, but you may bring your personal food if you have particular preferences. We serve meat, fish, vegetables, and water to drink but try to keep it as sustainable as possible, with some weeks without meat or fish. Vegan or vegetarian food is often popular among our volunteers, but in some areas, it might be challenging to get good vegan ingredients, except for the most common fruits and vegetables.

Time off may be used for hiking mountains, stand-up paddling, free diving, and other activities in nature. We have small boats and stand-up paddling gear that you may use in your time off, and some of our boats also have free diving gear.

If you want to know more or to talk to someone, you can get in touch with one of our ambassadors, that is former volunteers, some times volunteers that have joined us for many seasons and in different teams.
