LIVING ON SAILBOATS IN ARCTIC WATERS, CLEANING BEACHES
Since 2017 we have removed more than 1250 tons of plastic pollution from the Norwegian coastline.

We are combining mobility and living sustainably on our sailboats right in the middle of the most polluted areas.

We do professional beach cleaning with high-tech methods and specially developed technology - and we use fast and rugged workboats, that can take us anywhere, anytime in almost any weather.

Living on sailboats and sailing, for most of our volunteers, is an important part of the adventure, but for many, the feeling of doing something practical to save the oceans is the main motivation to join - and that is actually the type of volunteers we are looking for, the ones that will sacrifice a lot for doing something good for the planet.

Our boats are sailing around most of the Norwegian coastline, from Bergen to Kirkenes, from March until the end of November, but we also have some crews at the most northern part of Norway that are mostly staying in seahouses.

The beach cleaning is an adventure by itself, going out with the workboats on rough seas to vast islands, dining outside, making stick bread on the bonfire, and filling up tons of marine litter to bring back to the mainland for sorting and recycling.

If you join our crew, you will experience the most beautiful, vast and extreme nature in Norway and you will be taking part in the important job we do to clean beaches and tell the world about marine litter, spreading knowledge and awareness. Producing content for social media is an important part of the work our volunteer crew members are doing.

You will learn about sailing and how to be safe at sea, and you will most likely get insight into the fishery- and fish-farming industries, as we meet them quite often and sometimes visit them at their facilities! You will also be joining interesting discussions and workshops with other people that care about the environment, the oceans and all the life around us.

In your spare time, you may go hiking in the mountains, free diving, stand-up paddling, and even fishing, or other activities in the harbors we visit, quite often interesting tiny communities that welcome us thankfully for the job we are doing. Knitting and sometimes other types of handcrafting have also become popular activities among our volunteers!

Travelers will experience the most beautiful nature of Norway, probably the most spectacular coastline in the world, doing important work saving the oceans from plastic litter. You will learn about Norwegian culture, history and how Norwegian society looks at sustainability.

You will also learn a lot about sustainability and environmental issues, where they come from, how to stop them, and not the least environmental politics, as these are topics we often discuss and do workshops about.

And, hopefully, you will make some new friends and stories for life:-)
Former volunteers are. meeting all over the world, and we have a Facebook group where we post info and updates about arrangements and events. In 2024 there will be a big reunion for former volunteers at the Træna Festival in Northern Norway.

    Alojamiento

You will live in a sailboat with 3-8 other volunteers and the boat's captain. Sometimes we do small expeditions where we stay in sea houses or tents for a few days. The most northern arctic team mainly stays in seahouses.

We match double cabins with persons of the same gender and age, and you may get in touch with your roommate before arrival.

Meals are served 3-4 times a day, but you may bring your personal food if you have special preferences. We serve meat, fish and vegetables, and water to drink, but try to keep it as sustainable as possible, with some weeks with no meat or fish. Vegan or vegetarian is often popular among our volunteers, but in some areas, it might be difficult to get good vegan ingredients, except for the most normal fruits and vegetables.

Time off may be used for hiking mountains, stand-up paddling, free diving, and other activities in nature. We have small boats and stand-up paddling gear that you may use in your time off, and some of our boats also have free diving gear.

If you want to know more or to talk to someone, you can get in touch with one of our ambassadors, that is former volunteers, some times volunteers that have joined us for many seasons and in different teams.
