Descripción
Greetings, travellers!
We're a couple in our late 30s who spent many years exploring the world before deciding to put down roots and create something meaningful. After living out of backpacks, volunteering, and experiencing different cultures and ways of life, we've now settled on one of the oldest intentional communities in New Zealand. Here we have begun crafting a space we call Shanti Mission (i.e. Peace Mission)... a place dedicated to simple living, wellness, and genuine human connection.
Our share sits on a beautiful hillside ridge with sweeping views across the Abel Tasman National Park and Tasman Bay. From our ridgetop yoga platform, you can watch the sunrise, practise, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings.
This opportunity is ideal for independent travellers who enjoy simple off-grid living, meaningful outdoor work, and contributing to a growing vision in one of New Zealand's most beautiful settings. We look forward to sharing this little corner of the world with you.
Peace. -

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
Alongside everyday life, we're developing Shanti Mission as a place where people can gather to slow down, release the mind, reconnect with the heart, and explore wellness practices inspired by traditions from around the world.
When retreats & wellness weekends are taking place, you may be invited to help prepare spaces, assist with meal preparation, welcome participants, or help pack down afterwards. Where suitable, there may also be opportunities to experience parts of the programme yourself. -
Ayuda
The main tasks revolve around caring for the land and supporting the ongoing development of the project. This includes gathering, hauling, cutting, and stacking firewood, as well as seasonal tasks such as maintaining pathways, tending gardens, and managing gorse and other weeds. The work is varied, practical, and makes a tangible contribution to the space.

Alojamiento
In exchange for 3 hours of help per day (x5 days per week), we offer accommodation in a humble yet cosy 1 person hut - with a comfortable single bed & private bathing area. Nearby is a Common House which includes a kitchen and chill out space overlooking the community and valley. We offer a back-to-basics off-grid experience. This exchange includes gas (for cooking & bathing) & firewood (if required for heating the Common House).
We have a shared compost toilet available for everyone to use. -
Algo más...
** Time off & getting around **
There is plenty to explore in the beautiful Marahau Valley. We have a fresh-water river running through the property that you are welcome to enjoy at any time. We are just a 5-minute cycle from the start of the Abel Tasman Coast Track, with easy access to water taxis that can take you to different beaches and coastal locations. Kayaking, swimming, walking and exploring the National Park are all popular activities.
Having your own transport is helpful, as Motueka is around 25–30 minutes away by car. However, we are part of a small, connected community and ride-sharing is often possible through our community group chats.
** A little about how we live **
We intentionally live without Wi-Fi as part of our commitment to disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with nature, ourselves and each other. There are some areas on the property where you can get phone reception, so having your own mobile data is recommended. If you are happy for a more complete digital detox, that's also very welcome! We suggest letting family and friends know before you arrive that you may be offline for up to two weeks.
We have a shared kitchen/common area where you can prepare your own food. We ask everyone to clean up immediately after preparing and eating meals, wash and put away anything they have used, and leave the space clean and clear for the next person. Please use non-toxic, environmentally friendly soaps and cleaning products.
We don't have laundry facilities on the property, but there is a campground with coin-operated washing machines just a 5-minute cycle away. Handwashing is also an option.
Above all, we ask that you live respectfully alongside the land, the community and other people here - treading lightly, keeping things clean, minimising waste and choosing organic/non-toxic options wherever possible. -

Espacio para aparcar autocaravanas
We have a private camper/motorhome spot available at the base of our driveway, surrounded by nature and with a peaceful, rural feel. The space is suitable for a campervan or small motorhome and offers a simple, off-grid experience. No electricity plug in is available. Guests have access to our fresh spring water, a shared compost toilet, and shared kitchen/common area for preparing food. There is no Wi-Fi, helping you enjoy a more disconnected stay. We don't have laundry facilities on-site, although a coin-operated laundromat is just a 5-minute cycle away.
