UPDATE 9.2.26: We have received many messages since opening our profile, thank you all so much for reaching out to us! At the moment, we are 'fully booked' from February to April and unfortunately cannot host any more Workawayers in 2026. We’re sorry about that. If you’re interested in staying with us in 2027, please feel free to check our profile again toward the end of the year. It’s still too early for us to make plans for 2027, so we kindly ask that you don’t send requests before December.

We are a small, friendly ' gård' (farm) located just outside the city of Uddevalla on Sweden’s beautiful west coast. Our farm is made up of a few acres of forest and a few acres of farmland, along with our home and several traditional farm outbuildings, offering plenty of hands-on tasks and a chance to experience real Swedish rural life. It's surrounded by the peaceful countryside, with forest starting right in our backyard and plenty of hiking opportunities all around.

From here, it’s only about 45 minutes to the famous Bohuslän archipelago and just 1.5 hours to Gothenburg, perfect for day trips and exploring more of Sweden!

We share our days with four horses, who are currently stabled at a nearby farm just one kilometer away. They need regular care and attention, so horse lovers will feel right at home. But don’t worry, even if you’re not a horse lover, you’re still very welcome here.

There’s always something to do here, from painting, chopping wood, and cutting grass to helping with small projects and caring for the horses. We are not a business, our farm is completely private and we don’t run it for profit. We do this simply because we love the lifestyle. Hosting helpers is our way of sharing this place and getting a little extra support with the tasks that keeps it all running. We value happy, positive helpers who enjoy nature, animals, and a simple, active lifestyle.

About us: We are a Swedish–Dutch couple living our dream at Vosholem Farm. Richard (born in 1971) is Swedish, and Judith (born in 1987) is Dutch. Judith moved to Sweden in 2019, and together we’ve built a life here in the countryside. Judith works from home for a Dutch travel organisation, while Richard works as a consultant in various business development projects. We both love nature, animals, and being outdoors. In our free time, you’ll often find us hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, skiing, or exploring new places in the beautiful Swedish landscape.
We consider ourselves normal, friendly, open, and down-to-earth people. Spending time together, with our horses, or out in nature is far more important to us than fancy cars, expensive clothes, or a stylish home interior.

To make sure we can work and live together comfortably, it’s important that we can communicate well. We speak English, Swedish, and Dutch, so we kindly ask that you have a good level of English, Swedish, or Dutch before coming. That way, it’s easy for us to share ideas, laugh together, and make the experience enjoyable for everyone!

What to Expect During Different Times of the Year

    January – March ❄️☃️🌨️
This is often the best part of winter. The days are getting longer quite quickly, and we may have cold periods with snow and ice, sometimes even good conditions for ice skating. That said, this is the Swedish west coast, so snow, rain, and milder weather can come and go. During this time of year, we mainly focus on forest maintenance.

    April – May 🌸🌱🌼
Spring arrives! The days become long, and nature slowly starts to bloom. Temperatures usually range between around 10 and 20°C. During this period, we chop firewood and store it in the wood shelter, along with other outdoor tasks as the season changes.

    June – August ☀️🌻🍉
Summer is the warmest and most touristic season in Sweden. The days grow longer until Midsummer, after which they slowly start to shorten again. Temperatures are often very pleasant, usually between 18 and 30°C, with many sunny days. However, this is still Sweden, so don’t be too surprised if the temperature suddenly drops to around 12°C on a rainy day. This is the time of year when we dig, build, paint, and keep all the greenery under control, along with other ongoing farm and renovation projects.

    September – October 🍂🍁🎃
Autumn brings beautiful colours to the forest and cooler, crisp air. Temperatures gradually drop, and frost at night is quite common. During this time of year, we try to finish all summer projects and prepare the farm for the coming winter.

You will like it here if:

    - You are open-minded, flexible, and easygoing
    - You enjoy being outdoors and close to nature
    - You don’t mind physical tasks and are comfortable getting tired, dirty, cold, and/or wet

Come join us, breathe the fresh forest air, and experience a slice of authentic Swedish countryside life! 🌾🐴

My partner is Swedish, and I’m from the Netherlands. I moved to Sweden in 2019, and together we’ve built a life here at Vosholem farm. We’d be happy to share our cultures, languages, and stories with you if you’re interested!

We both enjoy cooking and baking, as well as spending time outdoors, whether it’s biking, hiking, kayaking, or camping in the beautiful Swedish nature around us. We’re flexible, open-minded people who appreciate good company, meaningful conversations, and a positive attitude.

UPDATE 25.01.2026: We are currently looking for someone to help us in February-March with forest tasks: taking out logs that Richard will cut into smaller pieces. The tasks can be physically demanding, so you need to be in good physical condition.
Judith is pregnant and therefore not able to do physical work, but she will lovingly take care of the catering. We are expecting our baby in July, and for this reason we will not be hosting a Workawayer during the summer and fall.
In april we want to start with building a stable for the horses.

    ---

There’s always something fun and practical to do around Farm! We’re looking for friendly, hands-on helpers who enjoy being outdoors and doing tasks together.

Typical tasks include: Light garden tasks like cutting grass and tidying up around the farm, painting the barn and other small projects, chopping and stacking wood, planting trees and improving our green spaces.

If you love horses, there are also plenty of opportunities to spend time with them! You can help with their daily care, grooming, training, and joining them on forest walks (no riding at the moment).

A safe and healthy environment is very important to us. We always use safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, as well as gloves when needed. We provide all necessary equipment, and when helping with machines, we never work alone.

You don’t need special experience, just a good attitude and a willingness to learn. And if you’re curious about Sweden, we’d love to share our culture, traditions, and local life with you! 🇸🇪🐴

    Alojamiento

We offer three types of accommodation, depending on your preference and availability:

    1. Cozy caravan
An old but comfortable caravan with a double bed and a short single bed. It’s parked right next to our house, with a beautiful view over our farmland where we often see deer, foxes, and sometimes even moose.
You’ll have access to the toilet, shower, kitchen, and washing machine in our house. The bathroom in the basement is easily accessible from outside.

    2. Small guestroom
A simple and comfortable guestroom upstairs in our house with two beds and a desk.

    3. Your own van
If you’re traveling in a minivan or camper, you’re welcome to park next to our house. You’ll have access to the toilet, shower, kitchen, and washing machine in our house. The bathroom in the basement is easily accessible from outside.

We will provide all meals for our helpers. My husband loves to cook, and we tend to eat the Swedish way: porridge, bread, eggs, and pancakes in the morning, followed by a warm lunch. Evenings are flexible and depend on our mood. It might be another warm meal or something lighter like soup, bread, or yoghurt. I also enjoy baking, so there will be plenty of (Swedish) sweets. We always take good care of our guests!

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

When you’re not helping on the farm, there’s so much to explore! Step right into the forest from our backyard for endless hiking trails, or take a swim in one of the nearby lakes. The beautiful west coast archipelago is just 45 minutes away, perfect for hiking, kayaking, island-hopping, or a seaside picnic.

You can also visit lively cities like Gothenburg and Trollhättan, explore museums, or hunt for treasures at local loppis (flea markets). And of course, you’re always welcome to spend extra time with our horses or just enjoy the peaceful countryside around. 🌿🐴 🌊
