We have a pioneering ecological and economic model, producing and supplying renewable electricity Kunststrom (art power) to the building and national grid. As a not-for-profit institution, we reinvest all revenue from energy production into its contemporary art programme. Located 45 minutes south of Berlin, we are located in a former coal power station built in 1913, ceasing production in 1989 after the fall of the Berlin wall.
We are jointly directed by Pablo and Helen. In 2017, the art collective led by German artist Pablo, acquired the former brown-coal power station with the vision to reanimate it as a sustainable Kunststrom power station to both feed power back to the national grid as well as function as a contemporary art centre. As part of an event in 2019, we formally switched the power of the former factory back on.
The exchange!
Since 2017, our international volunteer programme has hosted over 100 people, from a diverse range of backgrounds with a wide variety of skills. The opportunity to work within this field means you can either develop your existing expertise, or pick up entirely new skills! As all the work takes place under supervision, volunteers can quickly learn about construction, renovation and the constant maintenance that is necessary to keep a listed building running.
With other people and artists living in the building, you have the chance to meet interesting people! The living spaces are in the power station itself. There is a lovely big dog who you are welcome to play or relax in the outdoor space with. There is a public kitchen where you can cook and share meals with other volunteers. Many previous volunteers return to help out.
The building is located in a nice town, 45 mins south of Berlin by train. It is close to beautiful woods and lakes, which you are very welcome to explore in your leisure time.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

All the work is supervisioned. Volunteers can therefore learn much about construction work, renovation and reparation that is necessary to keep a listed building running, as well as gain experience in exhibition production.
Luckenwalde is 45 minutes from Germany's capital, Berlin, but still within a rural area that allows you to explore natural landscapes. There are also still many industrial structures of the building that are still intact and which we want to transform for our own energy concept. If you are interested, you can learn something about the different methods of energy production, practices in contemporary art and urban planning initiatives.Proyectos con niños

Algo más...
There are many small historic, traditional German towns in the area with a fascinating industrial character that are worth visiting. There also lakes and many nice paths for cycling and hiking. Luckenwalde itself is a nice town with some shops, particularly amazing second hand shops. And a fast, frequent rail connection to Berlin that runs into the night.
