We will be looking for helpers in in the fall to help in the finishing of our home but mostly farm job.

Our farm rescues llamas and alpacas and help them find "forever homes" with prospective adopters. The number of animals vary throughout the year, but we always have "our" herd who have to be taken care of. Daily chores include mucking the stalls and feeding and watering. We have some that you can halter easily and take on walks around the property . We also have laying hens (about 30) who have to be fed and eggs gathered daily. There is currently one pygmy goats who have daily requirements also. Inside we have 8 dogs and 2 cats. We have bee hives and will be collecting honey when it is ready.

There are always projects such as mending fences, picking up fallen limbs, light construction jobs and various other small tasks that occur on a farm. These vary due to the season and the weather (which changes every five minutes in Texas).

Bill is a ham radio operator and has a contest station on our property. The "ham shack" is his shop as well as the operation station for his Ham Radio contests. This is located down our driveway and is where you would be staying.

We are NOT a vacation resort where you lay around for 22 hours a day and get 3 meals. It is an exchange going two ways. We need people who are self-motivated and will take some initiative on different tasks. We go to different activities that you are welcome to join us and there will be some down time for you. We are involved in our church (and would like for you to consider going with us). Our friends are used to our helpers and look forward to meeting the ones that come to the farm. We prefer non-smokers on the property.

Bill is an excellent cook and we have had workers tell us that they gained weight while staying here. We will ask you about any dietary restrictions before inviting you but try to work with everyone.

Our internet is very limited but you will be able to check emails and plan your future destinations. No games, movie downloads, etc. Our cell phone coverage is almost non-existent unless you have AT&T. Our land line has free long distance if you need to call within US.

They will learn how a rescue farm works (feeding, mucking, grooming, etc.) with both llamas and dogs. We are in the country and they will learn there is life without texting, internet (limited) and other things that are taken for granted today. We eat our meals together as a family and attend church and other functions together. Our county has "history" from the first settlers going west up to the Columbia Shuttle crash in 2003. We have bird watching, fishing, farming, etc. Most of all they will see a community of folks who are friendly and eager to share and listen to visitors regardless of their origin, language or color.

We have no public transportation here so we would help you get to what you want to do. Our closest Greyhound Bus station is in Lufkin, TX and if this is your mode of travel - we will pick you up there. We have fishing, birdwatching, a NASA museum and several other museums.
