    UPDATED PROFILE WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS

My elderly cat died, so I'm no longer needing help caring for her, and am not wanting anyone in my house at this time due to a recent resurgence of Covid in the EU/Greece. So I will wait to see what future months bring. Happy holidays to everyone!

I am fluent in GREEK, both spoken and written, and a native English- speaker who has also published articles in English. I play traditional music from various regions of Greece and also from Asia Minor, as well as some Ottoman classical (and other) music on the violin.

Volunteers would be welcome to listen to music from my large collection of traditional music from Greece and Turkey (and would also hear me playing), and to peruse my collection of books about and guides to Greece (written in English). I would also be willing to give a lesson or two in the Greek language, time permitting. I would be thrilled to have visitors/house-sitters who also play such music from these parts.

Large, beautiful, private room with its own toilet. Sloped wooden ceilings in room and in all of house, too. Room is next to the long veranda that faces the large, walled garden, and is almost like a little cabin.
Shower is in the bathroom in the main part of the house, and the kitchen near it is well-equipped. Helpers can eat organic vegetables harvested from garden.

There is Wi-Fi connection in the house, including in guest room. Lovely quiet, green area with pine woods less than 100 feet from house (30meters). 10--15 minute walk to sea (depending on how fast you walk). Tavernas open likely only till end of October. The house is on a very quiet road, with only a couple of neighbors, but not remote! Bus stop is about a 3-minute walk from house. Limited bus schedules to main town/harbor (25 minutes by bus), with none returning to this area after mid-afternoon and taxis expensive, but good supermarkets 2 and 5km from house-- return with groceries can be timed with bus coming from main town (Aegina harbor). Easy access on bicycle.
Very good food shopping in main town/harbor (15km distant) with several markets selling organic products, a very good fish market, many tavernas and cafes, good bakeries and the health center walking distance from town (and also on the bus route to town).

I take the bus to Aegina (main town/harbor) usually at 10:40 am and return at 2:30, which gives me 3 hours in town for shopping, errands, visits (with 3/4 hour more on weekends, when bus returns at 3:15). Meaning also that one can leave for town from my area at 3pm on weekdays/3:45 on weekends, if leaving for ferry or if one has a ride back later with someone-- (taxis expensive). On WEEKDAYS ONLY, a bus also leaves my area at just before 7am with possible return at 10:15am, or, if wants a long day in town, at 2:30pm.

The island is beautiful and offers a lot to see and do, though bus route limited. For those without vehicles, there's nice walking from house to sea or in the woods. The sea is a 10 minute walk from house with some good swimming spots away from summer crowds. The main town (also the harbor) is very pleasant, with neoclassical architecture, a long pedestrian street, a pedestrian walkway on the waterfront, a fish market and good grocery stores, various tavernas and cafes, traditional kafeneia (old-style Greek cafes) and a relaxed atmosphere. Small enough to walk around and see everything in an hour (at most). The coastlines offer beaches and coves of various types and sizes, and there is plenty of unspoiled nature up in the hills, with nice sea views. The small, very undeveloped, wooded island of Angistri is a short ferry ride away, with schedules that allow for day trips. Slow ferries (car ferries) to Athens take 1 1/4 hours, and hi-speeds 40 minutes, though expensive. Many daily schedules for both, so day trips are entirely possible.
