Hello dear future volunteer, great that you are interested in our place. Let’s try to give you a good impression of what expects you when you come to work here :
What kind of place is this?
It is the home of a 7-headed family, a small heard of goats, loads of ducks and chickens, a few cats and dogs and many olive trees.
We raise and educate five children, live in houses that we built ourselves, work the garden and for most of the year are fully self sustainable when it comes to animal products.
If you are as exited as us about this very real and intense way of life, this is for you!
What kind of work is there to be done?
Between kids and farm, we basically have a 24/7 job, but we are our own bosses so with this comes the possibility to focus on areas that are of higher interest to each person. There are a few main areas to work and learn :
- Animal care (especially the goats)
- Household and cooking (we really love good food )
- Natural construction
- Food processing (dairy products, preserves bread baking....)
- Any kind of creative and inspiring activities with the kids (ages 15,13,11,4,1)
What about accommodation?
Short term volunteers are sleeping in their own tent if they have (if not we can provide). For volunteers on the long term programme we are offering a caravan if available. Also there is a communal outdoor kitchen that can be used at any time and a cosy roundhouse to spend comfortable downtime when it’s wet or cold.
How does it work with the meals?
For short term volunteers : breakfast is on your own terms in the communal kitchen. Otherwise we work on a “we work together, we eat together “ principle. That means that on days that you come and work, you will eat with the family. If you want the day/s off, you take care of your own needs.
For long term programme : we will make individual arrangements that best fulfil everyone’s needs, both regarding workload and food requirements.
Good to know : even though most of our meals can be adapted to vegetarians, our kitchen itself is not vegetarian.
What do I need to bring?
- Comfy clothes
- Outdoor shoes
- Sleeping bag
- Head torch
- In winter rain jacket
- Tent if possible
- Biodegradable toiletries
- Enthusiasm for working, learning and open communication
Long term programme :
We offer a special long term programme for people that would like to come for several months or longer. The idea is to become additional adult on the farm and a part of or family. Conditions, boarding and pocket money are subject to individual arrangements according to everyone’s needs and capacities.

URGENT UPDATE :
# We're pregnant.. again, and this time with a mommy that needs a lot of bed rest.
We are looking for someone that enjoys taking on the household and feeding many hungry mouths.
We are not looking for a super nanny nor for a professional cook, simply for someone that can see what is needed and joyfully take it on.
We reside on an off-grid farm 3km out of the nearest village and 20km away from the nearest city (Castelo Branco). The work includes accomodations and food (full board), payment will be agreed depending on personal goals and level of involvement. We're aiming at a long term stay so the payment can reflect that as well - fixed raises over duration of stay.
There is plenty of free time available for personal activities but most important is to make sure you have the will and wish to work around kids and happy to communicate
* Note: In addition to our regular volunteer program, these days we would also welcome to our family someone (M/F) who is interested in a long term stay.
To help out with household and take part in our daily routine, in exchange we'll provide a living space, full board (including meals, laundry, days off with car etc.).
For more details please contact us and mention in the subject *Long Term Program* .
There are various tasks around from householding to gardening and goat herding to fencing and building depending on your skill and interests there is always something to be done. The most important for us is that you are ready and able to manage your self and your work without supervision and seek rather communication than orders. There are also five kids around aged 15, 13, 11, 4 and 1 who are happy to be inspired by cool projects and activities.
