We are a grassroots non-profit organization providing aid to Venezuelan refugees in Colombia. We are based in Pamplona, a lovely little university town nestled in the mountains, cobblestone streets and fruit vendors who know your name.
We work with the network of shelters along the walkers' route, as well as independent refugees support projects.
We are in Colombia in response to a crisis, and as the situation is often in flux, we have taken on a variety of projects as they have arisen. Every day is different and gives rise to unforeseen events.
We need volunteers right now to keep all our projects running - minimum two week stay.
Our team is made up of international volunteers and Colombian/Venezuelan staff. There are coordinators who are present constantly, and our international volunteer team of 10-15 people to keep all projects running.
Pamplona is a university town, so has a young energetic vibe, and is very safe. There are lots of cute little cafes in the center, and some hiking in the surrounding mountains.

You will see first-hand the desperation of the Venezuelan people, and it is very sad. Be prepared to see some difficult situations. At the same time, you get to be part of a team that is helping people at their lowest point, which is very rewarding. Spanish language skills are very useful, but there's a lot of opportunity to practice if you're just learning

Every day is busy, with team members working in the shelters in Pamplona, and also traveling along the route in both directions providing aid to the Venezuelans walkers. We make several hundred sandwiches every day, we cut a lot of fruit, we do foot and blister care for the walkers, we provide medical clinics when possible, and spend a lot of time talking with and encouraging the refugees.

We have a volunteer house with six bedrooms and 2-4 beds in each room. There is internet and laundry in the house, and two fully-equipped kitchens.
Additionally, we have a second house available for groups or families, there is an additional cost associated with that house, and it is not always available, but you can check in with us. That house has three bedrooms and beds for 5-7 people.
I first began refugee work in Lebanon in 2016, and have also spent time on Lesvos, a Greek island with thousands of refugees. The situation in Colombia is dire and has received very little international aid. We are doing everything we can to raise awareness and bring support to the desperate Venezuelan population that is fleeing their country.

We have had a number of digital nomads volunteer with us, just keep in mind that while with us, your priority must be refugee projects. If your work is flexible and you are able to do it around projects, we'd love to have you join us! There is decent internet at the volunteer house, and a number of nice cafes with internet in town.
