    Descripción

We are Petra (1977) and Jeroen (1984) and we live in the mountains on a large and very rural property in Asturias near the border with Galicia. It encompasses a big slate house (Casa da Riba), stables, two adjacent buildings (one of which has an antique dome oven), a large modern workshop and five hectares of terrain. We have two Spanish mastíns, three cats, two ridden mules, pigs (for consumption) and chickens (for eggs and for consumption). We live here with a friend and her daughter. They have two horses and three cats.

Jeroen is a sourdough baker & chef, Petra is a carpenter and allround maker of stuff.

Some jobs that are currently waiting to be done:

    - emptying a kitchen-storage-to-be of the rubble that's in there and consequently building a wooden subfloor

    - finishing a bedroom (electrical, painting, varnishing wood beams)

    - removing part of the slate roof from an adjacent building (because it's very leaky) [you will not be asked to go on the roof, this is my task, but help will be needed moving the material to our van]

    - construction around the workshop and the chicken coops

    - taking part in the daily stuff like caring for the animals

What we can offer in return:

    - staying in one of the most beautiful parts of Asturias, plenty of options for hiking, day trips, mule riding (provided you have riding experience)

    - private bedroom

    - great food (and learning cooking or sourdough skills if you like)

    - an explicitly queer and trans inclusive household

    - an explicitly neurodivergent inclusive household (Petra is autistic, Jeroen has ADHD)

We are happy to come pick you up somewhere (within reason) but without your own car, be aware that you'll depend on us to go pretty much anywhere as we live in the middle of nowhere.

Dinner is included, we generally eat late at night. Happy to accommodate allergies and intolerances. Happy to accommodate vegetarians. Breakfast and lunch is up to you if you want to just eat whatever is there or buy your own groceries.

We know pretty much everyone around here so if you want to meet local people that'll be easy.

Much to learn - DIY, cooking skills, sourdough baking, Spanish...

    Algo más...

It is a remote and mountainous area. If you do not have your own transportation your range around the house might be a bit limited (obviously you can tag along if we go somewhere), but the area is absolutely stunning and the main village is within walking distance (an hour and fifteen minutes).

Jeroen has asthma and asthmatic allergies and you cannot wear perfumes, cannot use spray deodorant and cannot use strongly perfumed detergents etc.
