  We are a Danish couple who have recently started a new chapter in our lives in the mountains of Portugal. We love nature, animals, gardening and simple living, and we are slowly turning our beautiful piece of land into a small off-grid homestead.
  
  Our land is a peaceful little piece of rural Portugal, surrounded by beautiful nature down in a valley. A small stream runs through the valley and a larger river borders the bottom of the property. There are oak trees, rocky areas, viewpoints, open spaces and plenty of wildlife, making it a wonderful place to slow down and reconnect with nature.
  
  During your stay, you will live in our 6-metre Mongolian yurt (30 m²), surrounded by nature. It is a simple and cosy way of living, with a wood stove for heating, a basic kitchen with a gas oven and stove, and a large 200×200 cm bed. Water comes from the river and is pumped into a 1,000 litre water tank.
  
  During the cooler and more humid months, it is important to use the wood stove regularly, ideally every day. This helps keep the yurt warm and dry and prevents moisture and mould from developing inside. Keeping the stove going is therefore an important part of looking after the yurt, especially during the winter months.
  
  For drinking water, you can collect some of the best and cleanest natural spring water directly from a local source in the nearest village, less than 10 minutes by car from the property.
  
  Electricity is limited. There is a small 299 Wh power station charged by 220 W solar panels, so this is not a place for high electricity consumption or lots of electrical appliances. The compost toilet is located about 50 metres from the property.
  
  A car is essential for living comfortably here, and you will have access to our Nissan D21 pickup truck during your stay. It can be used for collecting drinking water, getting groceries and exploring the surrounding area. The nearest town is about 20 minutes away by car, while Viseu, with a wider range of shops, restaurants and services, is around 40 minutes away.
  
  The surrounding area is quiet and authentic, with small villages, local cafés and beautiful countryside to explore. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking and discovering rural Portugal.
  
  WHEN ARE WE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE?
  
  We are looking for someone to stay at the property from around 24–25 October until 27 November.
  
  We are also looking for someone from 11 February through March and possibly into April. We are flexible with the dates and would be happy for the right person or couple to stay longer if they enjoy the place and the lifestyle.
  
  If you enjoy peace, privacy, nature, star-filled nights and getting away from busy city life, we think you'll love it here. It's a chance to experience simple off-grid living, wake up surrounded by nature and enjoy your own little home in the Portuguese countryside.

  You will have the opportunity to step away from everyday life and spend some quiet time alone, with a partner or with a friend.
  
  The area is very peaceful, with little noise and few distractions. It gives you the chance to slow down, spend time in nature and take a real break from the pace of everyday life.
  
  Whether you come alone, as a couple or with a friend, you can use the time to relax, clear your head and enjoy a simpler way of living.

  We are mainly looking for someone who can look after our yurt and property while we are away and treat it as their own home.
  
  We are not looking for any kind of work or regular working hours. The main responsibility is simply to take care of the place and make sure everything is as it should be.
  
  Especially during the cooler and more humid months, the wood stove needs to be lit almost every day to keep the yurt warm and dry and prevent moisture and mould.
  
  We would also like you to keep an eye on the property and check that everything is okay. For example, making sure the yurt remains dry and watertight when it rains, checking that the water system is working properly, and letting us know if you notice anything unusual or if something needs attention.

  You’ll have the entire yurt to yourself, giving you a private and peaceful place to stay. It has a large 200×200 cm bed, wood stove and a simple kitchen for preparing your own meals.

  It is important to be comfortable with basic living conditions. There is limited electricity, an outdoor compost toilet and no traditional heating apart from the wood stove.
  
  We ask that you treat the yurt, vehicle and property with care. The main thing is simply to enjoy the place, respect the surroundings and let us know if anything needs attention.

  There is a good internet connection in the area if you use a provider with access to the satellites that give the best signal coverage here.
