Hello, fellow volunteers 🌿
My name is Gladys and I am the founder of the Hostel, a project and journey with more than 40 years of history.
I was a pioneer of the hostel concept on the Mayan Route, and over the decades I have had the great fortune to live with people from all over the world, sharing cultures, experiences, and profound life lessons. El Hostel has been created and sustained with perseverance, creativity, and a deep love for community life.
Today, El Hostel is entering a new phase, evolving into:
a peaceful and mindful space to live, collaborate, and inhabit with presence.
This is not a party hostel.
It is a place for people who value respect, simplicity, responsibility, and harmonious coexistence.

🛠️ What you can support
Volunteering is approximately 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Activities may include:
Reception support (at different times)
Cleaning and tidying common areas
Support with basic maintenance and improvements to the space
Cooking
Garden maintenance
Support with daily operations
Maintaining a harmonious and peaceful environment.
If you have experience in yoga, meditation, mindfulness, wellness, or social media, these skills are very welcome!

Mi nombre es Gladys y soy la fundadora de el Hostel, un proyecto y trayectoria con más de 40 años de historia.
Fui pionera del concepto hostel en la Ruta Maya, y durante estas décadas he tenido la gran fortuna de convivir con personas de todo el mundo, compartir culturas, experiencias y aprendizajes profundos de vida. El Hostel ha sido creado y sostenido con constancia, creatividad y por un profundo amor por la vida comunitaria.
Hoy, el Hostel entra en una nueva etapa, evolucionando hacia :
un espacio tranquilo y consciente para vivir, colaborar y habitar con presencia.
Este no es un hostel de fiesta.
Es un lugar para personas que valoran el respeto, la sencillez, la responsabilidad y la convivencia armónica.

🛠️ En qué se puede apoyar
El voluntariado es de aproximadamente 5 horas al día, 5 días a la semana.

Apoyo en recepción (en diferentes horarios)
Limpieza y orden de áreas comunes
Apoyo en mantenimiento básico y mejoras del espacio
Cocinar
Cuidado del jardín
Apoyo en la operación diaria
Cuidado del ambiente, atmosfera de armonía y tranquilidad.

Compartimos tiempo, conversaciones, risas y, cuando se da, comidas en lugares locales, para conocer los sabores y costumbres reales de México. El intercambio se basa en la cercanía, el respeto y la calidez humana.

We are looking for open-minded people who live in the here and now, who are responsible, proactive, kind, positive, humble, grateful, and respectful of community life. Our hostel is a peaceful and mindful space, so we welcome those who truly wish to collaborate in an honest and committed way.
Our goal is to create a pleasant and respectful exchange, where both volunteers and hosts feel comfortable and supported, in one of the most beautiful Magical Towns in Mexico: San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.

EL Hostel – City location
It is located in a central and quiet area, near the Guadalupe neighborhood, with easy access to cafes, bars, restaurants, and local life.
It is not a party hostel, but rather a space focused on long stays, people who seek tranquility as part of their well-being, harmony, health, order, and respect.
Volunteers can help out as needed.
🧹 Type of support
Volunteering is approximately 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Tasks may include:
Cleaning and organizing common areas
Helping out at the front desk and providing basic guest services
Caring for the garden and outdoor areas
Cooking
Light maintenance (painting, simple repairs, tidying up spaces)
Supporting the daily operation of the hostel
Maintaining an atmosphere of tranquility, respect, and harmony
If you have experience in yoga, meditation, mindfulness, massage, wellness practices, alternative medicine, social media, or online reservations, these skills are very welcome!
🤝 Ideal volunteer profile
We are looking for volunteers who are:
✔ Honest and responsible
✔ Calm, flexible, and adaptable
✔ Proactive and cooperative
✔ Respectful, without drama or complications
✔ Down-to-earth, humble, and with a good sense of humor
✔ Able to live in a community with clear rules
We prefer volunteers who can stay for a minimum of 4 weeks, as this allows for greater stability and a better exchange for everyone.

Nuestro hostel es un espacio tranquilo y consciente, por lo que damos la bienvenida a quienes realmente desean colaborar de manera honesta y comprometida.

EL Hostel – Ubicación en la ciudad
Se encuentra en una zona céntrica y tranquila, cerca del barrio de Guadalupe, con fácil acceso a cafés, bares, restaurantes y vida local.
No es un hostel de fiesta, sino un espacio enfocado en estancias largas, gente que busque tranquilidad como parte del bienestar, armonia, salud, orden y respeto.
Los voluntarios pueden apoyar , según las necesidades del momento.

Buscamos voluntarios que sean:

The volunteer accommodation offered by the hostel is located in the oldest and most touristy neighborhood of the city, in a central and quiet area of San Cristóbal de las Casas, very close to the Guadalupe Tourist Walkway.
Volunteers stay in spaces designed especially for them:
Exclusive dormitory for male volunteers, located on the terrace, with views of the mountains, well ventilated and lit, and with a private bathroom for the exclusive use of volunteers.
Exclusive dormitory for women, shared between female guests and volunteers, located on the second floor of the hostel, with a shared bathroom.
The hostel maintains a quiet, respectful, and orderly atmosphere. It is not a party hostel, but rather an ideal space for longer stays and conscious community living.
Accommodation is part of the volunteer exchange and is governed by clear rules of coexistence, respect, and shared responsibility for the well-being of all.
El alojamiento para voluntarios que ofrece el hostel se encuentra en el barrio más antiguo y turístico de la ciudad, en una zona céntrica y tranquila de San Cristóbal de las Casas, muy cerca del Andador Turístico de Guadalupe.
Los voluntarios se hospedan en espacios pensados especialmente para ellos:
Dormitorio exclusivo para voluntarios hombres, ubicado en la terraza, con vistas a las montañas, bien ventilado e iluminado, y con baño privado de uso exclusivo para voluntarios.
Dormitorio exclusivo para mujeres, compartido entre huéspedes mujeres y voluntarias, ubicado en el segundo piso del hostel, con baño compartido.
El Hostel mantiene un ambiente tranquilo, respetuoso y ordenado. No es un hostel de fiesta, sino un espacio ideal para estancias más largas y vida comunitaria consciente.
El alojamiento forma parte del intercambio voluntario y se rige por normas claras de convivencia, respeto y responsabilidad compartida, para el bienestar de todos.

Additional information, leisure time, and surroundings
The hostel is located in a quiet area of San Cristóbal de las Casas, in the historic center, in the Cerrillo neighborhood, which is the oldest, most colonial, and most touristy part of the city, with very narrow streets, some still cobbled, and old, historic houses.
Public transportation stops right on the corner of the hostel, making it easy and inexpensive to get around the city, or you can simply walk around the entire city.
In the surrounding area, there are:
The Guadalupe tourist walkway, which is full of restaurants, bars, cafes, small shops, and music in the streets.
Local fruit and vegetable market
Basic and craft shops
Bakeries and tortilla shops
Museums and temples

In their free time, volunteers can:
Walk around neighborhoods and learn about traditional festivals
Meet local and international people
Enjoy bars, mezcal bars, restaurants, cafes, taquerias, etc.

Relax and connect with local life
San Cristóbal is a Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town), with colonial architecture, an active cultural life, and a multicultural atmosphere.

El Hostel se encuentra en una zona tranquila de San Cristóbal de las Casas, Esta ubicado en el centro histórico, en el barrio del Cerrillo,que el mas antiguo, colonial y turistico de la ciudad, con calles muy pequeñas, algunas aun empedradas y casas antiguas e historicas, .
El transporte público pasa justo en la esquina del hostel, lo que facilita moverse por la ciudad de manera sencilla y económica, o sencillamente caminando te puedes mover por toda la ciudad.
En los alrededores hay:
El andador turistico de Guadalupe. esta lleno de Restaurantes, bares, cafés y pequeños comercios y musica en las calle.
Mercado local de frutas y verduras
Tiendas básicas y artesanales
