Descripción
We are an organization in Sengerema, Mwanza (Tanzania) dealing with awareness creation to children and youths on the challenges that face the youngsters and the environment. At our learning center, we run a nursery school project where we have kids of ages 3-5!

At our learning center, volunteers will have a chance to teach English, counting/maths, various sports and songs and help to determine and stimulate the kids’ talents and instruct them accordingly with love and care.

Mwanza is the region of Lake Victoria, one the greatest lakes in the world with its delicious NilePearch. While in Mwanza, volunteers do get the chance to visit The Sukuma Tribe Museum (largest tribe in Tanzania), Saa Nane Island and The Rubondo Nataional Park.
Mwanza is the nearest place to the well known Serengeti National Park where volunteers can get a chance to visit the place that is full of best wild animals and birds.
Through interaction with the local people, volunteers can learn Tanzanian ways of life, traditions and African dishes.

With the organization team, volunteers will be teaching in our nursery and pre school at pSengerema district.

Teaching Programs:
- Teaching in Nursery schools (working with kids); teaching them to count, reading, songs and different sports.
- Teaching in Primary School; Most of primary schools in Mwanza region contain kids aged 5years to 13. Volunteers will be helping to teach either English, mathematics, science, geography or other foreign language i.e, French to some other institutions.

I have no idea why this organisation has so much good feedback, because for me the people behind it are cheaters that try to make a lot of money from getting volunteers!
When I arrived at the bus park, I had to pay 50 US dollar for a taxi that brought me to town and then to my home (all in all a ten minutes drive). It was said that the money will… read more be used to pay taxis for several trips during my stay (there wasn’t a single trip!) and also for a second taxi bringing me back to the airport the day I leave which wasn’t true, because when I asked them to get me a taxi a few days before I left they just ignored me and didn’t respond to my messages which is why I had to pay for one myself. 50 dollars for a single ride, that’s quite expensive! The taxi I took to the airport and paid myself in the end cost 10 dollars, that really is a difference.
On the way to my homestay family’s house we had to stop at their office for me to sign several papers with questions about what I was going to contribute and so on although I asked for being brought to the house immediately as I was so tired from the 18 hours over night bus drive from Nairobi to Mwanza.
Also after that, there was no way not stopping in town because they really wanted to get the money for my stay right now. I asked if it was possible to only pay for two weeks first as I hadn’t seen the family or school yet. I wanted to see if I liked it and really would like to stay there for a whole month first. This was not possible, I had to withdraw 200 US dollars straightaway, the payment for four weeks, without having seen the places I was going to live and work at. When I asked them to give me a receipt showing I had paid this money they refused to give it to me. Later I found out why.
Eyodeta recommended getting a CTA, the work permission one needs for volunteering in Tanzania. After thinking it through I decided to do this because of the large fee I would have had to pay if the police caught me without one. I met the two in town where they had already worked out a plan: I would give my money and passport to Alphonce who would go to the immigration office and get the CTA for me while Andrew would take me to see the school. I insisted I wanted to see the school first before paying for some work permission because if I didn’t like it there I wouldn’t need that CTA. Apart from that, I didn’t want to give a whole lot of money and my passport to some stranger I had met only a few days ago. We had a long discussion during which they insulted me and in the end I had to give in because they didn’t want to cooperate at all. As if it was such a big deal to go to the immigration office together and then go to school afterwards or even the next day...
Alphonce told this story to another volunteer the next day, talking really bad about me while I was sitting next to them and hearing it all. Of course the other volunteer supported me as his arguments that they had so much to do that day were just ridiculous. Funny: It was the exact same thing that happened to a third volunteer arriving a month after me, she wasn’t allowed to pay for the CTA herself either. So I’m not even sure if they didn’t just stamp my passport themselves and kept the money.
My homestay family was absolutely adorable and I felt home from the first moment on. They were so welcoming and friendly; I got to know all their amazing friends I had so much fun with and really had the most wonderful time staying at theirs. Unfortunately, as it turned out, Alphonce and Andrew never paid them the money. It was said that half of it (100 dollar per month) would go to their organisation Eco Youth Development Tanzania, although I don’t know what for because the only thing they did was picking me up and bringing me to my house and the school, after that I hardly ever saw them. The remaining 100 US dollars were supposed to be going to the host family, but they haven’t paid mine until today. When my host father cautiously asked for it after three weeks of patiently waiting, they told him I hadn’t paid them the money yet and this was the reason why they hadn’t been able to give it to him. Luckily, my host had that same bad impression of these guys and believed rather me than them, but if he hadn’t I wouldn’t have known what to do!
Another fun fact: I told this story to the director of the school I worked at who had been hosting many volunteers being sent by Alphonce and Andrew throughout the last few years. He was very surprised to hear that volunteers do even pay money for that. He had let them live and eat at his house for free because for him it was clear that they shouldn’t pay anything for coming to Africa to help. So Alphonce just got 50 dollars each week (a lot more than I paid anywhere else in Africa by the way!) just like that from each and every volunteer staying at the director’s house.
Apart from all these immoral things they have a weird way of talking to you as if they didn’t really take you seriously. And they’re not very reliable: They let me wait for them in town for four hours, and more than once! If they had told me it would take this long I could have gone home again or eat something but whenever I texted them they said they were on their way and would be there in ten minutes, so I had to stay at that same place for hours in case they would actually arrive. When they eventually showed up they didn’t even apologize for being that late.
As I loved the family I stayed at and never had to see Alphonce or Andrew because they weren’t very close to my host I stayed for a second month (another volunteer couple left after two weeks because they stayed at Andrew’s parents’ house and met them very often; obviously they didn’t get back the remaining money they had paid because ‘the family had already bought all the food for a whole month’). Of course I paid my family only for that second month and didn’t give anything to the organisation as they still hadn’t paid my host. They told me they would come to my house and talk it through but never showed up again. When I texted them they ignored me. Which was fine for me.
We are in the middle of creating an own workaway profile for the school I worked at. The teachers are very nice there and you can stay at the director’s house for free. So if you want to volunteer at that school you don’t have to do this through Ayodeta where you have to pay a lot and have so much trouble on top.
I tried to stay objective while writing this although it was quite hard for me to do so. I am a very open person and usually get along so well with people, but these two really are the only two people I have met in my life that I can absolutely not stand at all. What they’re doing is disgusting: Getting money from volunteers, putting them into other families and not even paying them. Must be a good life getting 200 USD each month from every volunteer without doing anything..
So if you still want to: go and see yourself, but I can definitely not recommend this organisation at all. I hope that many people read this and I can avoid more damage through this. It was by far my worst workaway experience.

Maija is fantastic, she is good and friendly. We spent 3 fun weeks with Maija helping in our programs, the youths out here really enjoyed her presence in the project as she was a drama teacher and we had a lot to learn from her.

I recommend any organization or institution to let Maija be a part of it as she is a catalyst and very cooperative.
