MY CURRENT 2020 AVAILABILITY (as of Nov 9th 2020):
I NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY IN THE GARDENS...chainsaw skills especially!
I am an open book so feel free to ask me anything you think might be important.
I am passionate about what I do simply because I love to meet new people all the time. I am fiercely loyal and my friendship lasts a lifetime.
Like everyone on here I love to travel and am lucky enough to have a job which allows me to travel for 6 months every year whether 5 months in South America or meeting amazing people for a few hours. I've had fun times and saw mind blowing sights. I also adore where I am from; despite having visited some 30+ countries my homeland of Ireland is still once of my favourite places in the world.
I speak 2 languages fluently (English and Gaelic), I can communicate fairly well in a third (French) and I speak basic Spanish. I believe it is very important to at least attempt to learn the language in any country one visits so that that initial barrier can be broken down. Unfortunately, languages are not my strongest point but I'm a friendly happy-go-lucky sort of soul who will find other ways to communicate.
As I mentioned earlier I am a very approachable guy, an "open book" in the proverbial sense, so please feel free to ask anything at all. I am open-minded, gay and quite laid back, I love having fun and generally I don't sweat the small stuff! Life is too short. I live alone.
I mention being gay because individuals and potential Workaway guests can have strong views about it. If you are homophobic you are not welcome here - I'd prefer if you don't use terms like 'tolerant' or 'open-minded'; I have no desire to be 'tolerated' in my own home.
If you are religious then I'd prefer if you keep your opinions to yourself; I am athiest and it is my belief that religion is a very negative influence on society.
I am in my early 40s and have worked as a Journalist, Lawyer, TV Producer and Administrator. My current position is Company Director of my own tourism company - I love it.
I live in the countryside, 1 mile (1.5km) from the nearest village...it is a small medieval village with lots of amazing attractions like 8th century Celtic crosses, a 12th century Abbey, a 12th century castle and a round tower - yet it is off the well-beaten tourist trail.
My home is modern with two bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, laundry, kitchen / living room, lounge and I have 2 spare bedrooms with a double bed in one and a single bed in the other. Fully equipped with duvets / sheets / towels etc. You'll have access to a bike while you're here and possibly a car (over 26 years of age with a full European drivers license).
The garden is enormous; I need lots of help just keeping it tidy. I also want to start a veggie garden with a poly tunnel so I can grow veggies year 'round.
This is a meat-free house; please don't bring meat, or meat products, here.
Where possible I employ environmentally sound practices (eg. only run the laundry appliances and dishwasher after midnight, water conservation, recycling and composting etc) and expect guests to do so also while staying with me.
Please also don't bring chemical shampoos and soaps here; all water water goes into the gardens so I need to keep unnatural waste to a minimum.
MY PREVIOUS WORKAWAYERS
Since I signed up with Workaway in October 2016, I have hosted some exceptional guests. Most of these guests were a pleasure to host and we had a fantastic mutually beneficial exchange. The positive feedback I have received as a host reflects this situation.
All vounteers coming from non EU Countries need to have a Visa to work in Ireland (even to volunteer as a Workaway guest) BEFORE THEY ARRIVE IN THE COUNTRY; this is non-negotiable, no exceptions. Thank you for understanding.
Covid-19 Update -
Currently Ireland is experiencing restrictions on movement for guests coming from certain countries.

As the owner of a tourism business I have a wealth of knowledge to share not just about Ireland but in all the countries I operate. Travellers will be free, and encouraged, to explore the region by bike (which I will supply) and the greater area by car, bus or train. I don't want anyone just hanging out in their room wasting the opportunity - go explore!
We share meals together and language practice is integral to that. We share cooking tasks and guests can expect to learn how to cook delicious and nutritious vegetarian meals.
I also help guests with their written English.
I encourage guests to get to see as much of the country as possible; guests can do their tasks in longer blocks (eg. help ten hours one day and then take the next day off) so they have more freedom to travel within Ireland.
I also will try take my guests out once a week to a local pub, or for a meal.
IN MY HOME:
General household chores; sharing cleaning and cooking responsibilities.
IN MY GARDEN:
Preparation of veggie patches, sowing plants, weeding, hedge trimming, grass cutting, collecting leaves in Autumn, taking cuttings, harvesting fruit and veggies, general maintenance etc
Own bedroom; I have a single and a double available to guests. Shared bathroom. If you have a Couple Profile then I will expect you to share a room with one large bed. Same sex guests share a room (own beds).

I live close to a small medieval village with lots of amazing attractions like 8th century Celtic crosses, a 12th century Abbey, a 12th century castle and a round tower - yet it is off the well-beaten tourist trail. It is an hour south of Dublin, just off the motorway with excellent public transport (buses, trains) links and just off the M9 (Dublin/Waterford) motorway so it's very easy to hitchhike.
There is a great bus service with JJ Kavanagh bus company from Castledermot village which connects us to Dublin and Dublin Airport several times a day.
You'll have access to a bike while you're here.
