This Organic Orchard is a small 2.5 acre commercial orchard growing about 200 of the best tasting apple varieties in the world. Throughout the orchard, chickens roam freely throughout this permaculture style orchard. Celebrating the diversity of apples, chickens and vegetation.
Because the owner lives on this orchard on Salt Spring Island, and his girlfriend lives in Vancouver, he feels it is appropriate that he accepts only Males or Couples for this Workaway.

Harry is also connect with the Salt Spring Folk Club so great opportunity to experience great music. You will be quickly be immersed in this great island life. A very great community. Plus the 1200 acre Ruckle Provincial Park is only about 2 km away from the farm.

We are a certified organic orchard growing about 200 varieties of tasty apples and specializes in red flesh apple varieties, now having about 30 red flesh varieties, the largest collection in Canada.
In March, Harry grafts up about 900 apple trees, which get planted in his nursery and they are offered for sale the following March. Picking and selling start about Sept 1 until mid November.
In addition, Harry runs an Apple Festival, now heading into it's 16th year. About 1500 people a year attend and become committed apple lovers when they see all 18 farms on the tour. This is a very busy day in the orchard.
Due to logistics, preference is given to males or couples.
Salt Spring Island, itself, grows over 450 varieties of apples, ORGANICALLY. That is why we call Salt Spring Island, APPLE HEAVEN.

The farm is in a beautiful neighbourhood in the south end of the island. A beautiful ocean cove is only a short walk from the farm, plus the magestic 700 year old Douglas Fir tree, the GRANDMOTHER TREE, is directly behind the farm.
