Experience Life on a Remote Island in Northern Norway!

Hi there! We live on a small, remote island called Kjerringøy, surrounded by breathtaking nature. It’s a true paradise with white sandy beaches and towering, majestic mountains.

    What We Offer:

Summer adventures: If you visit in the summer, you can join us on sailing trips in traditional wooden boats, go fishing, and explore the stunning coastal landscape.
Winter magic: During the winter and autumn, you’ll experience the wild beauty of winter storms, daylight with different shades of blue and purple and witness the Northern Lights. However, please be aware that it can get quite dark during the day. If you’re not a fan of long periods of darkness, summer might be a better fit for you, as we have 24-hour daylight then!
We live in a charming house from the 1800s, which we’re in the process of restoring. Currently, there are three of us here: Tora (59), my daughter Kajsa (24), and her friend Ingrid (24), who are both studying online.

    Who We’re Looking For:

    - Someone who is practical and enjoys a variety of tasks, such as painting walls, digging in the garden, helping prepare our vegetable patch, cleaning the basement, and more.
    - You should be able to do tasks independently from time to time.
    - You’re comfortable living on a remote island with just 350 inhabitants, but also enjoy being social—we love playing card games and sharing meals together!
    - You can cook dinner some days a week.
    - Ideally, you’re able to stay for 3 weeks or more.

If you’re seeking a unique experience, surrounded by stunning landscapes and a peaceful, simple lifestyle, this might be the perfect fit for you. We can’t wait to welcome you to our little slice of paradise!

Skills and Knowledge We Can Share with You:

    - Nature Knowledge: We have a deep connection with nature—whether it’s fishing, foraging wild plants, or learning how to truly "be with nature" rather than just "in nature." Both Ingrid and Kajsa are certified nature guides, so you’ll have the opportunity to join guided mountain hikes and explore the landscape with expert insight.

    - Creative and Crafty Skills: We are quite artistic and enjoy various crafts, including spinning wool, plant-based dyeing, knitting, leatherwork, and more.

    - Restoration Techniques: We believe in sustainable restoration, which is better for both nature and the climate. We can teach you how to preserve and restore using natural materials—mixing our own paint, repairing windows, applying clay to walls, and using local building resources.

    - Traditional Sailing: We sail traditional wooden boats and take care of their maintenance. There’s also a boatbuilder on the island, as well as a museum showcasing the area’s rich history and old houses.

What We Hope to Learn from You:

    - We want to bring the world to us! It can be quite peaceful and quiet here, especially in the winter, so we look forward to having some extra company.

    - We’re eager to learn about different food cultures, lifestyles, and new handcraft techniques.

    - Most importantly, we hope to have fun working together and creating memorable experiences!

    Variety of Tasks This Winter:

Traditional Handicrafts: We are restoring our house, primarily using old techniques. This includes painting with linseed oil, applying clay and chalk to the walls, repairing our own windows, and preserving the old wood by removing layers of plastic-based paint. Some of the big plans this winter is to move the kitchen to one of the livingrooms, so you will help prepare the room for moving.

Basement and Garden Project: We also plan to clear out the old barn basement, which is filled with dirt, and repurpose the soil to create a vegetable garden.

Carpentry help: If you have carpentry skills, we would love your help in building bookshelves, replacing some interior walls, and other woodworking projects

Preparing wood for next winter. Bring wood down from the forest and chop wood.

    Alojamiento

You will have your own private room, with linens provided. Please note that the house can be quite cold, so make sure to bring warm clothes.

    We do not accept smokers.

If you are vegan or vegetarian, you’ll need to bring any special foods you require, as the local store here has limited vegan options. You can stock up in Bodø before arriving.
We primarily cook vegetarian meals, along with dishes featuring fish, reindeer, moose, and lamb (all wild game), as we prioritize animal welfare. Kajsa also practices dumpster diving, so occasionally we eat rescued meat that would otherwise go to waste.

If our diet doesn't suit you, you’ll need to be prepared to purchase and prepare your own food.

You can check the bus schedules at reisnordland.no. If, for any reason, you're unable to catch the bus, we can arrange to pick you up in Bodø, as long as you let us know in advance.
We don’t have internet in the house, but we rely on our phones. The signal is strong, so you can purchase data for your own phone if needed. If you only need internet occasionally, you’re welcome to borrow some from us. However, in this digital age, we enjoy connecting in more natural ways—reading books, playing board games, and spending time together offline.
