  We are a hard working, fun loving, organized family with a wide range of projects on the go. Steve is an avid outdoorsman, passionate about skiing, mountain biking and anything on the water. A lifelong entrepreneur, he is currently working in business advisement for tech start ups. Simone, is a metal/ice artist, herbal practitioner, gardener, baker and animal person. Simone's father Carl lives on the same land, is a wonderful metal artist and builder, and a resource of knowledge and practical skills.
  
  We have traveled quite a bit, the longest period being 2 winters in Panama working at a remote island surf camp, a few months in Portugal and also WWOOFing in Hawaii (with kids) for 3 months in 2019. We love adventures, connecting with people from all over the world and learning about other cultures.
  Our boys are Arlo aged 4.5, and Drinnon aged 7. They are great kids, full of energy and adventurous and are used to being around other people. They are both easy going and adaptable.
  
  We live in a stunning post and beam Strawbale house, built by Simone's family. Our property us 15 acres, 2 of them being flat creating a lovely yard/garden and mini farm area in front of the house. The property backs onto crown land and our backroad leads into the Valhalla Mountain Range.
  
  We have a sweet kangal shepherd dog, an arabian horse, house cat , 11 ducks and a miniature jersey milk cow and her calf. This summer/fall we have seasonal animals such as 3 pigs.

  I am happy to share knowledge in baking sourdough bread, making fermented foods and seasonally preserving foods (late summer/fall). I can also share a bit of my knowledge of herbal medicine for those with an interest, though I generally don't have much time for this in the summer/fall season besides a little harvesting for later use. You can expect to learn plenty of animal care, gardening and general homesteading skills. Steve and Carl are able to share various building skills and Steve his entrepreneurial experiences.
  
  We enjoy hosting dinner parties with friends, and taking in other local cultural events. We would welcome you to join in some of these social activities.
  
  If you want to come:
  -please come with a positive attitude and keen work ethic
  -we are a family, so you need to be ok with young kids
  -no drama please
  -your own vehicle is nearly essential

  We have a wide variety of projects on the go, some to do with homesteading and some larger building projects. We are most interested in workaway folks with some experience with trades skills to add to our projects building of a suite, plus work on finishing a houseboat- but you can expect to learn some light skills as well as we will be working alongside as will a few local tradespeople. We have a wide variety of tasks to get involved with here creating a well rounded experience!
  
  For 2023 our spring/summer projects which we will be working on include:
  -small building projects such as building bedframes with milled cedar, making a couple of benches and other small household furnishings.
  -gardening
  -animal care of: 3 pigs, cow, horse, possibly some rabbits
  
  Gardening projects for this fall will be focused on:
  -harvesting and processing last of fall crops (greens, tomatoes, herbs, fruits)
  -sheet mulching garden beds as winter prep
  -wood chip mulching in orchard
  -planting nut trees in various locations on property
  
  We very much welcome couples or friends as our travel trailer is well setup for 2. We do consider families but tend towards children age 6 and older. Most interested in hosting those with some building skills.
  
  We can be totally flexible for meals, either we eat together most of the time or we can also arrange less work hours if you prepare and eat your own food for meals, with plenty of staples provided from the garden and grains and such. Otherwise, if eating together we will have some expectation for help around meals to the best of your abilities, if not food prep/cooking then clean up for the meals that we share. Our diet is quite varied and non specific to any styles, you can expect good home cooking with veggies, meats, some baked goods, and excellent coffee and tea :). Our preference when eating together is to be able to pass the chef duties on to our guests a couple nights a week- let us know if this interests you.
  NOTE: We are not able to accommodate major dietary restrictions such as gluten free, dairy free, vegan, keto, as we cook one meal for all. Vegetarian is fine.

  We offer a well set up 26ft travel trailer for accommodation. The trailer is perfect for a couple, a pair of good friends or a single person. It has a double bed, 2 bunk beds, fully functioning kitchen and nearby bathroom accommodations. The location is in a pleasant wooded area near the main house but offers a place to have your own space. We also have a second accommodation in a sweet wee schoolbus that is camperized. Wifi reaches the travel trailer.
  Most meals will take place in the main house’s courtyard. For breakfast you are on your own in the travel trailer/schoolbus (ingredients provided by us, including homemade granola, yogurt, fruits, fresh bread, jams, eggs, cheese, coffee, tea etc) but join the family for lunches and about half of the weeks dinners. The other dinners we provide food to be enjoyed in our respective areas in order for us to catch up on valued family time. On your days off it is up to you to cook for yourselves as well, with farm ingredients :)
  
  If cooking is on interest to you we can discuss you cooking some of the meals, we love to taste new foods! Otherwise helping clean up after meals is an expected way to contribute. My father Carl often joins for meals.

  There are many things to do in your time off, we are at the base of the Valhalla Mountains, so hiking, biking, camping, and climbing, and on the surrounding lakes and rivers many water activities (swimming, paddleboarding, kayaking. The river is 5 min drive from the house, and if you are brave there is a creek a few minutes walk from the house for a cold plunge. Nelson is our closest town, 35 min drive and is an great place to explore with many markets and beach side activities. There is a bus service that runs 4 times a day to and from Nelson, and up to the town Slocan (further beaches, hikes and cultural activities). The bus stop is a 20 min bike ride from the house.
  
  **Having your own transportation is the ideal here, the Slocan Valley has a lot of good activities to take part in and having your own vehicle creates more opportunities! There are great day trips from here to explore local towns, quiet sites on the lakes, biking adventures, and cultural activities. We can offer the occasional ride if we are going to town etc, but on your off time it will be up to you to find your way around. We are a busy family and it is not possible to offer any rides outside of our schedule. We will gladly loan bikes, paddleboards, and other sporting gear, and offer suggestions for local destinations!
