Aloha and thank you for taking the time to review our farm. My husband and I look forward to meeting and sharing our land with open hearted and animal friendly people.
Please review the following information to see if you feel our farm would be a good fit. Our priorities are to book workawayers who like to start early, starting to help around 7 or 8. Those who like to go to bed early and get up early would be best suited here Please let us know if that describes you,
Jai is currently working on a conscious level spoken word /hip hop/ rap project, therefore we seek individuals on a similar path, with social media, backup singing, engineering, video production, mixing, and producing skills…if you do and would like to contribute to his project, you will be credited hours for your involvement. Ask us for the link- or check out on all streaming platforms to see if our music and vision resonates with you!
We are looking to host those who eat or who are open to try the path of plant based foods, vegetarian (also no cooking of eggs, dairy is ok) or vegan while here. Also no smoking, drinking, or drugs while on the property.
We feel the biggest benefit of staying here is that you will make deep connections with the other helpers and renters ,(This land is a sacred space), everyone can learn and have fun but keep in mind this is not a party atmosphere. Quiet hours start from 9 PM to 7AM with the community hang out area closing down at 10 PM
We are looking for fit individuals who can do physical work potentially in the rain or strong sun , although we do have a variety of help needed
The land was intended as a healing/spiritual place. We believe that the positive energy and support of the property, like minded people , and of course being here on the Big Island of Hawai’i will help you towards reaching your highest potential in regards to all personal growth.
We are not selling our produce right now but our aim is to be able to grow 100% of our food needs. We're on one acre of land, so we are trying to use every inch to become as self-sufficient and environmentally sound as possible. We are on solar and water catchments systems, so we try to be respectful of our resources, such as being mindful of water and electric use, getting into small habits such as short showers, plugging electronic devices in during the day, and unplugging devices when not in use. We do not have the power to run high energy items like blenders, curling irons, hair dryers etc. There is minimal refrigerator space and lots of dry good storage areas
Helpers who have a strong work ethic, like to do tasks independently and who are more in a stage of contemplation and/or meditation will be well suited here .We have usually between 4 and 7 helpers at all times.
We have a very large library mainly regarding spiritual paths and healing and helpers are welcome to borrow from our selection of books.
You should bring: working/garden gloves, a flash light (or two), rain poncho and/or an umbrella, bug spray and sunscreen, clothes you are willing to get dirty (we do have some old clothes for you to borrow if you like ). A phone with unlimited data for your use. Verizon and t-mobile are the best service while on our land. AT&T is just finalizing a tower so should be working well soon All other companies have almost non-existent signal. It can be quite humid here, so we recommend you do not bring any expensive and/or sensitive electronics or bring them in a large ziplock or plastic tote for extra protection
In order to save a spot we need flight confirmation when you book to Hilo.
PROPERTY: We are 3 miles from the coast (very rocky, not safe for swimming, but at times the tide pools are big enough for soaking and refreshing with some being able to do a little swimming and very beautiful for hiking/picnic) in Hawaiian Paradise Park , Sunday farmers marker is 5 min drive and about 10 minute drive from Keaau and Pahoa for shopping, Laundromat etc, and about 25 minute drive south of Hilo and the Hilo Airport.
My husband often takes helpers to a hiking area which ends at a magical secluded swimming beach which often has sea turtles.
We have a large greenhouse which needs lots of help, so hopefully we will have veggies to share soon. The property has hundreds of fruit trees such as avocado, soursop, mountain apple, rollenia, abiu, and papayas and other exotic trees. Most of the trees are still young, so produce is limited but we share when we have an abundance . Right now we may have rollenia, and coconut meat to share.
We ask for 17 hours of help per week, with the week starting on your first night. As long as we are reserving your spot, you are responsible to help the 17 hours even if you camp or stay elsewhere for a day or more while exploring the island. We prorate to 2 hours 30 min per night if you leave before your week starting date.
We provide private living spaces or tents, all with mattresses or pads . You may borrow bedding upon request. Most helpers use their phones for media use, but you can borrow our computer/phone, for emails, facebook or emergency purposes because our wifi is not strong enough to support helper's own phones. .
Volunteers share an outdoor covered simple screened-in kitchen, a community hang out room and shared outdoor hot shower and basic compost toilet seat built over a bucket needing to be changed every couple days
There is life growing all the time here so helpers should be ok with at time dealing with dirt, smells , bugs, rodents, mold, rust and just overall wear and tear and old items. The elements take a toll on physical things . We try and use our things til the last bit ,so would be good for those interested in repairing and being creative in fixing things or just not being too concerned if something is on its last leg. We try to always make improvements but sometimes that may be slow or limited due to funds or time restraints.
We ask helpers to clean up after themselves on a daily basis with other deeper cleaning projects getting work credit usually biweekly
.We provide our volunteers with a few simple food supplies such as surplus fruit or vegetables when in season and oats for breakfast. We try about once a week to cook some extra pasta beans or rice for the helpers . You will need to provide the majority of your own food. There is room to store your personal foods that you have purchased.
You will experience a rustic lifestyle that may at times feel like camping! Expect all things that come with living closely with nature, including bugs, very occasional power outages, sometimes spotty cell service, and getting physically dirty.
TRANSPORTATION we are located right near a bus stop for free bus transportation. We also head into town often and sometimes we can drop you off. Hitchhiking is also a common form of transportation if you are comfortable doing so, (Big Island is very safe). Upon arrival at the airport there are taxis, car rentals, uber/lyft limited bus service
you can choose the above transport choices or I can do it for $25 for gas for a hilo pickup which includes an optional quick stop at a market during arrivals before 10pm
If possible try to book a flight that arrives in Hilo during daylight hours.
