I could really use help with a few renovation projects, some indoor and some outdoor (May-Oct). You don't need to be an expert, but it would be great to have someone with some experience with a cordless drill and a hammer.

I live in Idaho City, a small historic mining town in the Boise National Forest in southern Idaho (34 miles north of Boise). If you love mountains, pine trees, streams, wildlife, hot springs, rockhounding, and the serenity of nature then this is where you want to be! I moved here from Minnesota in September '18 after my only child went away to college, and have been renovating the place ever since. Generally I am looking for a helper to stay 1-3 weeks, but a longer stay is possible for someone with the right skillset. I have a dog named Hagrid who is the sweetest boy ever, so workawayers should be dog lovers.

A little about me: I work full-time M-F, 4 days from home and 1 day at the office per week. I would describe myself as an extroverted nerd who is also creative, friendly, and optimistic. I'm 60 and although that seems pretty old when I write it out here, I feel young on the inside and think I relate well to people of all ages. It definitely helps to have my adorable 50-pound huskypoo, who is the sweetest boy ever and makes me laugh every day. That said, I have a bad back and can't lift anything too heavy, which is why having workawayers has been such a blessing!

Workawayers from everywhere are welcome subject to current travel restrictions, and I’d be happy to show you our little bit of Idaho paradise! And now that international travel has opened up again into the US, I'd love to host workawayers from other countries. I'm fully vaccinated, and Idaho City is a pretty easy town to be safe in because most of our recreation is outdoors. There is year-round hiking, hot springs and fabulous views. In winter we get tons of snow, but the temp stays around 20-30 degrees F, so we have a fantastic time snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and hiking. If mountain living sounds appealing, please reach out. Be well!

Mountain life is peaceful and gorgeous and it is easy to maintain social distancing while enjoying the outdoors. If you love mountains and pine trees, hiking, rock-hunting, mountain biking, panning for gold, hot springs, fishing, etc., you will love this area. Idaho City is a very small historic mining town (pop. approx. 450) 35 miles north of Boise, ID. My place is walking distance to the historic downtown, mountain trails, public library, ranger station, shops with antiques, collectibles, ice cream, and groceries. There is a laundromat several blocks from us.

Current projects include: Indoor and outdoor painting, putting a floor in the storage shed and organizing what's in there, small building repairs as well as a couple other more significant reno projects, and numerous landscaping projects which includes developing landscaping with indigenous rocks and plants, and fence building and repair. I could also use help inside with organizing and downsizing the upstairs bedrooms which right now are mostly used for storage.

Workawayers are provided with a cute private guest house that sits next to my house. It's got a small kitchen, a bedroom with full bed, living room and dining area, and bathroom. There is wifi and a smart tv for your use. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property. Groceries are provided for meals (apart from special dietary requirements and snack foods). Sorry, no pets. Please note that workawayers are asked to clean the guesthouse prior to departure, leaving it in the same condition as it was upon arrival.

Phone Service: T-Mobile and Verizon cell services work here in town. If your phone is on a different network you may need to use wifi calling or a wifi-based app like WhatsApp for phone calls.

Also important to note is that I do most of my grocery shopping in Boise because our local grocery store is very small and doesn't carry much produce, vegetarian, or healthy eating options. Generally I ask workawayers to provide a grocery list and I make a trip down each week.
