Share our home and help me in an Arts Centre on Waiheke Island
We live in a beautiful place called Waiheke island
which is well known for Art and Vineyards
I am a Fashion Designer, Textile Artist and curator. I run an Arts Centre based in an Old Police Station
Living with us is a hive of activity,
If you are creative then this is a place for you. I mostly need asistance in my fashion studio and retail area.
Jobs vary from tidying, cataloging, possible social media and admin assistance. there is the possibolity to make stuff
We live close to the village and close to the beaches
in your spare time you can enjoy bush and beach walks, or just relaxing. or enjoying some of the islands tourist attractions. Living on an island means we have restricted infrastructure regarding water and waste so we actively practice mindfulness in all that we do ensure our footprint on this earth is smalll and unthreatening

Days can be varied from working in the studio/gallery helping sort my fabrics/runn art projects etc, I do have general housework and I am hoping to prepare the gardens for summer
It will be interesting but rewarding work and just the fun of beeing at the beach.stays are genrally 2 weeks however can sometimes lead to longer stays if your skills and attitude are suited. please contatc me if you are interested to come and stay

Being an island we are very water vcnciouse as we rely on rain water. the have sustainable practices like saving water arecycling and composting food scraps.

If you are interested in having an amazing time in waiheke island, staying with Jeanine, is the best option. First, you get to know the Maori culture, the house perhaps, has one of the best views of the entire island and the job was fair: gardening, painting, helping at the shop.

Jeanine was a great host and more than I could ever ask for. She treated me like I was part of the family since the moment I got to Waiheke and it was really sad having to leave after 6 days, if it was for me I would stay there for months!

Thank you jeanine for the wonderful time I spend at your place. It was only for five days, but I learned a lot about Maori culture. The host showed me around, to the beach, shopping, maori singing,... the work was totally fair!
Great art and fashion!

I was almost 2 weeks helping here, and it was one of the best experiences during my nz trip. Jeanine is a very friendly person, and she has a very nice view from her house to the beach/ocean.The kind of work was some painting, tidying or gardening, and it was more than ok for me for what i got back. Hope i can come back one time

My friend and I stayed with Jeanine for two weeks. I feel that it was a good experience, we made friends with the other house mates and the help was fair for what we received in return--full food and board. That's a pretty good deal. Jeannie is a lovely person very nice and although a bit quiet, friendly and accommodating. Her home has a view to die for (like much of the Island) and is next to the old police station -now gallery/thrift shop- which I thought was pretty cool. The work she had me do was very varied like going to the gallery in Auckland and helping setting up or… read more watching over exhibitions, sanding & painting, but mainly cleaning and organizing. The work wasn't too bad but disorganized, sometimes I felt like she just thought of something on the spot and those were the days i’d stand around quietly being handed something to put in a pile. A bit of organization and maybe a day off would go a long way I think to make the work flow better for me personally but that wasn't a big deal and over the month I was happy to be there and I thought things were going very well.

The main reason for neutral feedback is that when I arrived and over the emails prior we had lightly discussed my staying 4-6 weeks. On my first night we chatted and I said I’d like to stay till my next workaway on the 15th of July, I thought we had agreed. A bit more than a week ago from my writing this she mentioned my leaving. I was a bit surprised when she suggested going around the 4th-6th. I said i’ll look into going somewhere else and with a bit of confusion hit workaway last minute to no avail. I'm not a confrontational person and hate uncomfortable situations but I thought things were going really well and needed to know what prompted her mention my leaving early so I asked if she had ran out of work for me to do. Jeanine told me she generally has people for about two weeks and then tired of their energy…...... Why wasn’t this ever mentioned before? I said in my first email I prefer long term work and she said she had events all the way up till July 30 leading me to believe I would be helpful up till my next place. Turns out she rented out the room I was in as well and told me my stuff had to be packed the day before someone was moving in, talk about short notice. I scheduled a bus trip for Tuesday but booked a hostel for Sunday the day after this conversation, I didn't feel welcome anymore.

I traveled in a car for 15 days before coming here and was excited to chill out and not move for a while. I came back to Auckland for this, I could have gone anywhere else. I don't recommend staying here there is a serious lack of communication.

What you can do and learn at this place is:
be flexible, to be independent and self confident, cleaning and sorting out piles of stuff, giving appreciation to yourself....don't expect to do or learn craft/art because there is no support for it.

Honestly, I think there are more exiting places on this beautiful island!
