I had a fabulous 2+ week stay at Roy's in November 2022. I initially did some indoor tasks due to heavy rains. However, I primarily worked with two other Workawayers on Roy's garden projects which consisted of pruning, planting, and re-establishing a walkway and steps through the garden. The three of us all had a keen interest in gardening and
… read more landscaping and enjoyed each other's company, which allowed for a pleasant work environment. Plus, the house is in a beautiful, quiet location in Akaroa, with scenic views of the bay and surrounding mountains. Roy is a positive, energetic person, and even though he had 101 things going on, he still made time to cook and share dinner and evening conversations with us when he was in town. Amazing! When he was gone, we had access to the pantry and kitchen so we could dine in, or if we felt like eating out, it was just a short walk to restaurants and shops. Overall, I highly recommend Roy as a Workaway host. I will look him up when in Akaroa again. Cheers!

We spent such beautiful moments at Roy's place.
He made us feel like home straight away, gathering us around hilarious life stories, inviting us to incredible dinners at home, every night was a special occasion (he's definitely a talented chef and cocktail maker!).
We helped out on his beautiful boat and absolutely loved to learn every day and

Definitely a dream experience with great other woofers around us on top of that.
Akaroa has an amazing vibe and the nature around is just mind blowing.

Stu and Ali were wonderful helpers. They are professional gardeners and have transformed my garden from a jungle to a beautiful showcase. They worked well with the other helper and were fun and interesting to boot! Always had fun with them and enjoyed working alongside but I couldn’t keep up. They are so creative and can see the the end result and
… read more work towards it. I learned so much about my garden and the different names of trees and plants and how to best maintain them. They left me with a manageable garden that no longer overwhelms me. I feel confident I can continue where they left off. Thanks Ali and Stu for the good memories and leaving my house and garden better than when you came.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks working on Roy's garden project(s). We worked alongside another Workawayer who was also a keen gardener so we all got along really well. We had an open brief from Roy so we removed and pruned lots of overgrown trees and shrubs, cleared debris, replanted vege beds and constructed new pathways and steps. Roy was a
… read more welcoming, friendly and entertaining host, plus an excellent cook. The house is beautifully located and the deck (almost completed) is a wonderful addition for views, sun and bird watching. Roy was away in Lyttleton for much of the time preparing his sail boat for the start of the summer season, so we mostly had the house to ourselves and we got stuck into the food supplies. Whenever Roy returned to Akaroa he was very generous with a couple of themed dinners and a dinner party. We made some good friends along the way and will be visiting again asap. We certainly recommend this Workaway.Comentarios

François & Maryse were a pleasure to host. Maryse was so helpful painting my boat, staining my deck planter boxes, organizing my garage, stacking all my wood, cleaning and gardening. Francois is a man with many talents, from painting, mechanical, and building. He helped me put in new French doors and a closet door all by himself! He is able to do
… read more so much and so quickly with skill. He sees things that need to be done and does them, I am so grateful to him for all his hard work. It was incredible how much they both accomplished in 1 week. I have had a new ensuite bathroom that I have been working on for months and he even plastered the walls. I would come back home and everything is neat, tidy and done! They are a wonderful and active couple that are self-entertaining. I have had many workers and I would say they rate as two of the best!

Unfortunately we were only able to stay a week!
Niki and Roy are caring and very kind hosts. They thought of everything, our work was organized and different every day. Akaroa is a wonderful area to visit after work.
I am also obliged to speak of the wonderful meals worthy of a three star in France.

What a great first WorkAway experience! I am afraid I have been spoiled for all other places after spending 2 weeks in gorgeous Akoroa. Amazing meals, excellent company in Roy and the other WorkAwayer, Ina. The work was not difficult although it took me awhile to get used to walking all the hills here. Roy was extrememly welcoming, friendly, generous, and his house is in a beautiful spot overlooking Akaroa harbor! He is hilarious and fun to talk to. … read more out on his sailboat with one of his daily tours and I got a chance to see albatross, a blue penguin, fur seals, Hectare dolphins, and more pretty scenery on the sea. We were initially supposed to stay at Roy's for 2 weeks, but ended up staying 4 since it was such a great place! We helped with a lot of different projects in the garden (weeding, cutting back trees and planting to name a few) and with building. Roy has a cool boat we got to help with a bit too. The location is perfect too, close to a lot of beautiful walks and Akaroa village only a 10 minute walk away. Would definitely recommend staying at Roy's, he's an awesome host!
