Where to begin?! ... RJ is a very welcoming and experienced host who freely shares her knowledge. She was very efficient at environmental concerns such as reducing trash, reusing/repurposing and recycling. We had the need to visit the mainland and were able to enjoy the ferry ride with beautiful weather. RJ was incredibly flexible in accommodating our schedule . (We were also able to meet Bruce, who seemed shy, but welcomed us into his home, even though he is no longer active in the workaway program). We certainly hope to reunite again in the future, as we valued our connection and growing friendship with RJ, who is an incredibly unique, versatile woman. We feel blessed to have gotten to know her and it was an honor for us to have this as our very first workaway experience!
I was really lucky to host this couple. I highly recommend you invite them to your place. I trusted them with my home, with my truck, in my kitchen, and was so grateful for the help that they provided. I really enjoyed having long detailed conversations with them. I hope that they come back. And I wish them well as they journey around.

Kit spent the month of August with us, the hottest month of the year. She never once complained about anything we asked of her even spending hours on a ladder or on her knees painting porch railings, ceilings and window frames. We are rooting her art caeer and her travel adventure to be a huge success. If you get the chance to host her, I recommend that you do. She is mature for her years, kind, smart, and oh so talented, a talent she wields with skill. Fine art painting is hard work, and Kit turned that work ethic to our projects as well as her own. She is missed here and welcome back any time.

I can't express enough how wonderful my month-long stay with Rj and Bruce had been. The accommodations were excellent, and I was extra spoiled being the only guest there at the time, so I had them all to myself! Their home and property are both gorgeous and well-maintained, with a massive raised bed garden that Rj so graciously tends to on a

They are very open and relaxed about what chores we choose to pursue at the house (depending on what is pressing), and were very considerate of my personal needs as well, which I really appreciated. The primary chores I focused on while there were helping to clean the cottage they rent out to other guests, as well as painting the exterior of the house. August probably wasn't the best month of choice to come visit Savannah with it's extreme heat and frequent thunderstorms, so the outdoor work was a little limited during my stay (which was fine by me!). But luckily, the weather didn't stop us from all the fun boat rides, kayaking, biking, and continuous exploring of the town of Savannah. You would not believe the extensive amount of information RJ's brilliant mind can retain, because that woman can tell you the entire story and history behind everything in that town. She is such an intelligent and interesting person to get to know, and was always more than willing to teach me about her homestead processes involving her chickens, guineas and gardens, the local wildlife, her cooking methods, and so much more. I was also very fortunate to have such understanding and accommodating hosts during this busy month of my art career. They had a beautiful sun room where I was permitted to set up my painting station, and they were both very encouraging of my work during these stressful times in my life. RJ is an AMAZING musician, and Bruce is an artist as well! I really hope they'll be able to find more time in between their busy schedule to keep on creating because they owe it to themselves to take a break from their constant upkeep of the property. Thanks guys for the wonderful experience! I learned so much from the both of you and felt that I really grew as a person. Mary joined a group of four young people helping at our homestead through another volunteer program. She got along well with everyone, including my husband, who has Aspergers. She fed us delicious recipies, taught us crafts and art, clean and tidied the house and yard, and left us too soon. I took her kayaking on the magical Ebenezer Creek

Communication is key, and you are an excellent communicator. Best wishes for your winter adventures. You are welcome back any time.

While staying with RJ and Bruce I was given comfortable lodgings, was well fed, and felt a bit spoiled! RJ took me kayaking, swimming at the pool, shopping and more! Bruce made a huge feast for everyone on Christmas Eve. They are very generous people.
And although I did help out with chores, it was never what I would consider hard work.

Accommodations are clean and comfy, and the house and yard is beautiful. The movie room is awesome!
RJ is very knowledgeable about the history of Savannah, amoung many other things which I found very interesting.
I will say I found it could get quite uncomfortable for us workawayers at times, as they tend to bicker, but there is always a place to retreat to. And it was a bit difficult communicating with Bruce, he seems more comfortable doing things himself, rather than turning them over to the ones who are there to help.
But all in all I am thankful for what was shared during my time there.

We had a great couple of months with Bruce and RJ this fall/winter, and look forward to even more adventures together.
What other volunteers need to know is that this is a fabulous place to do your work-away. Especially if you have transportation, you can enjoy a country atmosphere on the "farm" and then everything from shopping malls and fast

Bruce and RJ are some of the most helpful, generous and appreciative hosts we have met (in 21 work exchanges), have a wealth of knowledge about anything you might want to experience in the Savannah area (which we thoroughly enjoyed, of course) and are full of contacts for other amazing opportunities around the world as well. They could enjoy teaching you things and sharing their skills when they are feeling well physically, but I think they do best with more mature helpers who already have helpful skills & ideas to share and can work independently and pay attention to little details (like keeping the gates closed for the chickens, the doors closed for the cats, and the sinks empty for Bruce). So if that's you, don't hesitate to give the Vinsons a try in Savannah--just do it before we come back in November! ;-)Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

Ken, Sonja and their daughter planned to spend about two weeks with us in November. They have been living with us about a month now. I hope they never leave, but they plan on leaving in another six weeks in order to adv enture further in this beautiful world. I hope to host them in Okinawa this summer at my other workaway host listing. We all

Their daughter is so very well behaved, friendly, and polite. What a loving, caring, easy to get along with family. How lucky we are that they chose us to help. Sonja is a great cook and designer and problem solver and organizer and listener and story teller and mom. Ken is Mr. Fix it. and a great dad and a polite and attentive conversationalist. After a month of working together and explaining how we like things, I now just say "I trust your judgement" and let them make decisions. They set their own schedules here and we are amazed at the amount of work they get done. They would probably accomplish much more if my husband and I would let them. I'm always telling them "take some time off" "go see the parade" "take your daughter fishing" "read a book". And they will, but they just wanted to finish this project before they go. I really appreciated that on the first two days that they were here, Sonja told me she wasn't feeling well and asked for time to rest before jumping into our to do list. Of course! I don't want to just go on and on, I've tried to simply touch on generalities, but my memories of their time with us is filled with happiness, singing, laughing, sharing meals and stories. My home, which is a fixer upper, is being transformed into a place of beauty and rest from its current disorganized construction zones and mismatched furniture. Thank you Hamners! Please come again Please come often.

What a pleasure it was to host Meng Xia at our permaculture homestead in Vernonburg. She worked alone, one on one with my husband or I, and also in

She charmed everyone in the house, including my husband, our two cats, and a long stream of guests who have joined us to share in sustainable living and organic gardening practices, or music or art or just an interest in travel, food, and culture. She got along well with everyone, communicated clearly, understood and followed directions, asked for what she needed, was quiet, tidy, self directed, helpful and attentive to the needs of those around her. We really enjoyed listening when she told stories of her travels, which are extensive. Besides working side by side at our daily chores, Summer also took an online Japanese language course in her free time. Because she had an interest in the downtown historic district, we took her several times into Savannah, also teaching her to ride the local buses. She went to the beach with us a couple of times, and also canoeing. One day we took a girls day out and drove to Bluffton to shop at the amazing Cross Island Thrift Stores and to eat a delicious Mexican meal in Bluffton's newish Promenade. She taught me a Chinese song from her childhood as we drove errands in the car. Because Summer had an interest in cooking we spent many fun hours in the kitchen, making delicious meals for the crew to consume. So many good times had and the only sadness was seeing her off at the bus station as she resumed her exploration of all things American. Come back any time Summer. Bring your parents. Fair winds and following seas to you. Thank you for choosing our homestead!

There were some positives and negatives to my 4 week experience with this host in Savannah, so I rated it neutral. Although we were all very nice, polite, and worked well together, I never felt like we truly clicked. RJ referred to us as "the staff", which I didn't appreciate. I often felt like I was walking on eggshells. I never knew if she

A few more negatives were that my room had fleas for 2.5 weeks, but we managed to finally get rid of them. The house rules were changed in the middle of my stay, which was a little awkward, but I'm glad to see that they have updated their profile. I expected a farm or homestead, but it turned out to be neither. I hope it's developed into one someday soon. I ended up doing work that I didn't anticipate and less of what I thought I was going to do. We both should have been more clear about expectations up front.
Some of the positives were that they cooked excellent food and were very accommodating with my diet. They let my friend come to visit for a few days as she was passing through town on a bike trip. They offered to take me on day trips, give rides into town, and let me use a folding bike. The house is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and well kept. They offered to take me to church with them on Sundays.Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

Lauren came to us in October of 2014 and we were very happy to have her. Rebecca was a wonderful host. She went out of her way to make sure that I was comfortable, well fed, and that I made the most of my time in her corner of Georgia.

I had so much fun with Rebecca, so many interesting conversations, smiles of recognition, adventures, good meals, laughs, sing songs, not to mention the good times shared with all the people that travel through her house.
I could go on but to say it shortly and sweetly - I have some very happy memories.
Thank you Rebecca!
