Descripción
We are a small endurance and Arabian horse breeding farm. I spend my days riding my horses and feeding my animals. We are a fun loving family and do lots of travelling to and from comeptitions. Looking for fun loving people with horse experience to share in our passion for arabian horses and the Australian bush.

Travelers will benefit by being a part of an Australian family and will see a variety of the Queensland countryside, sharing life stories, living on top of a mountain we ride in fabulous forests and enjoy spectacular views.
Ayuda
A large property for breeding and competing on Arabian Horses for endurance. Situated on top of a mountain behind the small township of Kilkivan, we back on to thousands of acres of National Park.

We spend a great amount of time riding in the National Park enjoying the scenery and abundance of wildlife which includes, deer, Wallabies and Kangaroos and many, many birds!

We would love to share our little piece of paradise in exchange for a little help around the farm and some horse riding. Experience with horses preferred.

In return for some help around the farm, we are happy to supply home cooked meals, comfortable accommodation, great company and some local sight seeing.

We have rooms available, short or long term.
Long term helpers with horse riding experience may have the opportunity to compete in Australian Endurance rides.

Jessica stayed with for 19 days, in which time she was able to experience many different aspects of farm life and horses.

I stayed this farm 19 days during 2/2018 -3/2018. During my stay I experienced a lot of different things around the aussie farm life. They took me a part of their family and I felt very welcome straight at the beginning. My everyday life at the farm: I woke up at 6 and had some breakfast and then a work day usually started around 6:30. First we fed the horses. Then, depending on a situation, usually put the working horses on the walker. After that I usually cleaned the kitchen and dishes from the previous evening dinner. They have lots of going on all the time so there are plenty of variation of the work. Some days after cleaning the kitchen I helped with cleaning pigs and chickens and ducks yards, some days we took horses for swimming on their swimming pool, some days I was painting their competition feed/water buckets, one day we cleaned the windows of the house, one day I was washing feed buckets, on 2 days there was a butcher working and the other day I was helping with packing the meat to freezer (that was actually quite interesting to see!) and few times we also had time for riding aswell. Usually we had lunch around noon. Then I had a few hours off before the evening feeding which usually started around 4:30pm. We fed the horses and cows and goats and pigs and chickens and ducks and dogs. After that I had free time again and we had Shelley's delicious dinners! Shelley is a great cook and I really enjoyed her dinners!

Before hand Shelley told me that we are going to ride daily once or twice a day. During my 19 days stay I had the chance to ride 6 times in total. That was disappointing because I thought beforehand that there were going to be much more riding and that was the main reason I decided to go to this farm. First week there were also bad luck with the weather (very wet) but the next two weeks they were so busy doing other stuff so basically we didn't have enough time for riding.

One of the main reasons which keep them busy is the endurance riding competitions during weekends. They have a competition nearly every weekend. I was with them on one weekend. It was an interesting experience to see all the things around the endurance ride. Because of the rides, the days just before or after the ride weekends are quite busy (packing the truck before, and unpacking after) and all the horses have their well deserved rest after competition.

I think this is a suitable farm for a hard working persons who are interested of doing a plenty of different type of work around the farm and house in general. This is a very suitable place for people who are more willing to be an extra hand and "part of the team" than people who are looking for work with independent responsibilities. The farm is basically "in the middle of nowhere (views are stunning!)" I got the chance to visit nearest town about once a week with Shelley (for quick shopping etc.) but otherwise you are spending all your free time in the farm aswell. So this place is a great opportunity for people who really are looking for a break for a city life and want to experience a real aussie farm life!
