Hello! My name is Tenywa, I'm 28 years old, and the project coordinator .We run a community based environmental organization that mainly works in schools with the learners to help fight climate change through education and planting of trees. The project is located in kaliro district, uganda and is on a campaigning of educating millions of Ugandan students to protect the environment and greening the all uganda.
OUR VISION
To create ‘green consciousness’ and awareness empowering the younger generation for being actors of environmental conservation & protection by providing them an opportunity to actively participate in raising of tree seedlings & tree planting.
OUR MISSION
The mission of our project is to create green consciousness among school going children through a mind-set change by involving them in seedlings production and plantation. Environmental conservation is delivered as an experience that is deeply imprinted in each child’s mind rather than curriculum based.
Importance Of Trees In Schools
* School Tree Planting projects help connect students to the benefits of trees and foster environmental stewardship.
* Trees help moderate temperature and muffle noise.
* Environmental benefits such as clean air and water.
* They even help improve air quality by absorbing some airborne compounds that could be harmful to us, and by giving off oxygen.
* They even help improve air quality by absorbing some airborne compounds that could be harmful to us, and by giving off oxygen.
* Spending time around trees and in nature also makes us healthier and even improves our students’ academic performances.
* Recent scientific studies suggest students are better able to concentrate, complete tasks, and follow directions after playing in natural settings.
* Another study found self-discipline in girls can be achieved through increased exposure to nature.
* Teachers can use the planting process to discuss the benefits trees provide, while including many subjects that their classes are studying.
* Trees conserve energy in the Dry Seasons. Properly planted trees can will help cool schools environments during the dry seasons.
So,the Project helps to connect students to the benefits of trees and foster environmental stewardship. Tree planting is a great way to increase student interest in their local environment and achieve academic goals. Each school tree planting provides educators with the opportunity to inspire school administrators, faculty and students to affect positive change at their schools and, in turn, their communities.
When students plant trees, they can see for themselves the structure of trees, learn what they need and how they grow. Teachers can use the planting process to discuss the benefits trees provide, while including many subjects that their classes are studying. As trees mature, the trees can be a continuing, personalized way of relating what they've learned in books to visible, living examples.
Students become aware that they can play a role in protecting the environment through personal involvement. Ultimately, it is hoped that the experience will help them make intelligent decisions about conservation and use of our valuable natural resources. This project creates Environmental Awareness that engages and mentoring young people in tree planting activities in communities where they live e.g. Schools, homes, public places etc.
Our Achievements
In the, last 5 years of Implementation of our environmental Project, 3,800,000 trees have been planted, this includes FRUIT Trees e.g. Mangoes, Oranges, Avocadoes, Jambula, Guava, Tangerine, Pawpaws, White Canarium, Star Fruit, Jackfruit, etc. We have also planted BIOMASS Trees specifically for firewood to help schools in cooking students food e.g. eucalyptus and Melina arbhorea, we have also planted ORNAMENTAL Trees for shade and beauty in school compounds e.g. Ficus Benjamina, Ficus Natalensis, Mahogany, Mvule, Melia Vulkensii, Bathidavia, Terminalia, Pine.
So on our programs we enroll into the climate education and planting sessions in schools and at the project,we’ve got a team of 3 members on board and Tenywa is the project leader responsible for the management of all duties at the project and Esther the programs officer helps in organizing and planning for the team and Colline is responsible for the nurserybed establishments and climate education lectures in schools. So this team joins us at the office and we move out together on a daily basis to go and share the message of climate change to the young generations in schools so we can collaborate with them to end this crisis through creating Nursery beds and planting of trees.
Community Impact
Since the beginning of our environmental Project, we have worked with hundreds of schools and planted over 3.8 million trees across Uganda. Beyond tree planting and climate Education.our mission is to create a lasting environmental awareness among young people and empower them to become future environmental stewards.
